To investigate the time dependence of sodium nitroprusside- (NPS-) induced oxidative effects, the authors study the variation of the antioxidant enzyme CAT activity in various tissues after the administration of a single 2.5 mg/kg dose of SNP or sodium chloride (NaCl 0.9%). For each of the two dosing times (1 and 13 hours after light onset, HALO, which correspond to the beginning of diurnal rest span and of nocturnal activity span of mice, resp.), brain, kidney, and liver tissues were excised from animals at 0, 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 24, and 36 h following the drug administration and CAT activity was assayed. The results suggest that SNP-induced stimulation of CAT activity is greater in all three tissues when the drug is administered at 1 HALO than at 13 HALO. Two-way ANOVA revealed that CAT activity significantly (P<0.004) varied as a function of the sampling time but not of the treatment in all three tissues. Moreover, a statistically significant (P<0.004) interaction between the organ sampling-time and the SNP treatment was revealed in kidney regardless of the dosing time, whereas a highly significant (P<0.0002) interaction was validated in liver only in animals injected at 13 HALO.

SummaryThe aggregation/adhesion response to platelet activating factor (PAF) was studied in diluted whole blood by impedance aggregometry. The extent of aggregation varied directly with the interval between blood sampling and aggregation measurement over the first 30 minutes from sampling, then remained stable for the next 60 minutes of observation. This is an effect opposite to that described for aggregation to PAF in platelet rich plasma which, however, cannot be studied soon after sampling. Time dependence of aggregation is important and comparative measurements should be made during the period of stable aggregability.

Repetitive stimulation of a single medullated nerve fiber of Xenopus yields a succession of postspike voltage-time curves which are nearly coincident until attainment of a voltage that corresponds to that of the maximum attained by the normal postspike undershoot. Initially the interspike potential returns toward a resting level after this brief phase of hyperpolarization. However, as tetanization proceeds, a pattern of hyperpolarization develops with the result that, in the tetanic steady state, there exists a progressive hyperpolarization throughout each interspike interval. Extent of postspike hyperpolarization in terms of a deviation deltaVm from the resting level of membrane potential is approximated by the variation deltaVm = delta[MNa + MK]/[GNa + GK] where MNa and MK are current densities associated with active pumping of sodium and potassium ions and GNa and GK are corresponding time-dependent leak conductances. Tetanic hyperpolarization is reversibly abolished by cyanide and by exposure to lithium Ringer. Eventual reappearance of tetanic hyperpolarization in the presence of lithium Ringer suggests lithium pumping.

Salinity is a global issue threatening land productivity and food production. The present study aimed to examine the role of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) on the alleviation of NaCl stress on different parameters of canola (Brassica napus L.) plant growth, yield as well as its physiological and anatomical characteristics. Canola plants were grown under greenhouse conditions in plastic pots and were exposed to 100 mM NaCl. At 50 and 70 days from sown, plants were sprayed with SNP (50 and 100 µM) solutions under normal or salinity condition. Growth and yield characters as well as some biochemical and anatomical changes were investigated under the experimental conditions. Salinity stress caused an extremely vital decline in plant growth and yield components. A significant increase was found in membrane permeability, lipid peroxidation, hydrogen peroxide, sodium, chloride, proline, soluble sugars, ascorbic and phenol in canola plants under salinity stress. Under normal conditions, SNP application significantly increased all studies characters, except sodium, chloride, hydrogen peroxide, lipid peroxidation, membrane permeability that markedly reduced. Application of SNP to salt-affected plants mitigated the injuries of salinity on plant growth, yield, and improved anatomical changes. The present investigation demonstrated that SNP has the potential to alleviate the salinity injurious on canola plants.

We generalise the epidemic Renormalization Group framework while connecting it to a SIR model with time-dependent coefficients. We then confront the model with COVID-19 in Denmark, Germany, Italy and France and show that the approach works rather well in reproducing the data. We also show that a better understanding of the time dependence of the recovery rate would require extending the model to take into account the number of deaths whenever these are over 15% of the cumulative number of infected cases.

Aim. To investigate the effect of consumption of diets with different content of fat and sugar on the state of the periodontium of rats.Methods. The rats received a semi-synthetic fat-free diet (FFD), a fat diet (5 % sunflower oil), and a sucrose diet (50 % sucrose) for 30 days. Determined the degree of periodontal atrophy, tooth decay and in the gum homogenate - the activity of elastase, catalase, urease, lysozyme and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA).Results. Sugar diet increases the degree of periodontal atrophy and tooth decay, but decreases elastase activity in the gums and increases catalase activity.  Fat diet does not affect periodontal atrophy and tooth decay, but it reduces catalase activity.Conclusion. The increase in the intensity of caries and periodontal atrophy under the influence of a sucrose diet is probably due to the stimulation of the formation of lactic acid. Fat nutrition does not affect the intensity of dental caries and the degree of periodontal atrophy.

Much of the work on the theory of diffraction by an infinite wedge has been for cases of harmonic time-dependence. Oberhettinger (1) obtained an expression for the Green's function of the wave equation in the two dimensional case of a line source of oscillating current parallel to the edge of a wedge with perfectly conducting walls. Solutions of the time-dependent wave equation have been obtained by Keller and Blank (2), Kay (3) and more recently by Turner (4) who considered the diffraction of a cylindrical pulse by a half plane.

A one-parameter family of time-dependent adiabatic indices is introduced for any given type of cosmological fluid of constant adiabatic index by a mathematical method belonging to the class of Darboux transformations. The procedure works for zero cosmological constant at the price of introducing a new constant parameter related to the time dependence of the adiabatic index. These fluids can be the real cosmological fluids that are encountered at cosmological scales and they could be used as a simple and efficient explanation for the recent experimental findings regarding the present day accelerating universe. In addition, new types of cosmological scale factors, corresponding to these fluids, are presented.
