This research aimed to compare anti-inflammatory effects of oligonol, acupuncture, and quantum light therapy in rat models of estrogen-induced prostatitis. Adult male Wistar albino rats were grouped as follows: Group I, control (n= 10); Group II, chronic prostatitis (n= 10); Group III, oligonol (n= 10); Group IV, acupuncture (n= 10); Group V, quantum (n= 10); Group VI, oligonol plus quantum (n= 10); Group VII, acupuncture plus oligonol (n= 10); Group VIII, quantum plus acupuncture (n= 10); and Group IX, acupuncture plus quantum plus oligonol (n= 10). Chronic prostatitis (CP) was induced by the administration of 17-beta-estradiol (E2) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Oligonol was given for 6 weeks at a dose of 60 mg/day. Acupuncture needles were inserted at CV 3/4 and bilaterally B 32/35 points with 1-hour manual stimulation. Quantum therapy was administered in 5-minute sessions three times weekly for 6 weeks. Lateral lobes of prostates were dissected for histopathologic evaluation. Although all of the treatment modalities tested in this study showed anti-inflammatory effects in the treatment of CP in male rats, a synergistic effect was observed for oligonol plus quantum light combination. Monotherapy with oligonol showed a superior anti-inflammatory efficacy as compared to quantum light and acupuncture monotherapies.

Pyrethroid cyhalothrin (PC) is an insecticide that is used worldwide for pest control in agriculture and household use. Samoa extract (SE) is a potent antioxidant protecting cells from oxidative stress. The present study investigates the protective and therapeutic effect of SE on PC-induced changes in sperm quality in male rats. Fifty adult male albino rats were divided into five groups: group I: served as control; group II: received PC i.p. only (6.2 mg/kg b.wt.); group III: received SE only (100 mg/kg b.wt., p.o.) for eight weeks; group IV: received SE as a protective agent daily for eight weeks, then followed by the administration of PC (i.p.) three times a week for two weeks; group V: exposed to PC (i.p.) three times a week for two weeks, then treated with the SE daily for 8 weeks. Results showed that PC caused markedly impaired sperm quality (a count, viability, motility, and abnormality). Compared to PC-treated animals, SE in the protective group markedly restored the alteration of sperm indices. However, SE in the curative group was found to be less effective in restoring PC-induced alterations. In conclusion, the data of this study revealed that the SE as a protective agent is more effective than as a therapeutic agent. Keywords: Samoa; Pyrethroid; Sperm quality; Rat

The toxicity of lead acetate (L. A.) concerned to public health disruptor due to its persistence in the environment and it has the adverse influence on the human and animal health as well. It causes physiological,biochemical, and neurological dysfunctions in humans. Histologically it has a negative effect on the liver which is considered one of the major target organs where acts as detoxification machine by elimination the toxic substance from the blood in rich with it.  As well as it affects kidneys that are the two of the most filtering organs. Therefore the present study was aimed to investigate the histopathological effect of L.A. on liver and kidney tissues in male rats. Twenty male rats involved in the study were equally and randomly divided into two groups each of them involved 10 animals. Group I (castrated rats) and Group II (control) each group received 80mg/L of lead acetate dissolved in one liter distilled water by drinking for 15 days. Histological sections showed some alterations including abnormal architecture, cell degeneration, nuclear degeneration, hyperchromatic hepatocytes, immune cells, degeneration in tubules, dilation in sinusoids, dilation in central vein of liver increased bowman's space glomerular atrophy degeneration of tubular cells in liver and kidney tissues of rats in castrated rats from control group. But the size of degenerated tissue was more severe in castrated male rats. It was concluded that the castration process could produce a hypogonadism and decreased testosterone which owns many receptors in kidney and liver may produce adverse influence with L.A. administration.

To assess the chondroprotective effect and influence of N, N′-bis(1,5-dimethyl-2-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-3-oxopyrazol-4-yl) sebacamide (dpdo) that was synthesized through the reaction of phenazone with sebacoyl chloride and screened for its biological activity especially as anti-arthritic and anti-inflammatory agent in a monoiodoacetate (MA)-induced experimental osteoarthritis (OA) model. Thirty male albino rats weighing “190–200 g” were divided randomly into three groups (10 each): control, MA-induced OA, and MA-induced OA + dpdo. In MA-induced OA rat, the tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin 6, C-reactive protein, rheumatoid factors, reactive oxygen species, as well as all the mitochondrial markers such as mitochondria membrane potential, swelling mitochondria, cytochrome c oxidase (complex IV), and serum oxidative/antioxidant status (malondialdehyde level and activities of myeloperoxidase and xanthine oxidase) are elevated. Also, the activity of succinate dehydrogenase (complex II), levels of ATP, the level of glutathione (GSH), and thiol were markedly diminished in the MA-induced OA group compared to the normal control rats. These findings showed that mitochondrial function is associated with OA pathophysiological alterations and high gene expressions of (IL-6, TNF-a, and IL-1b) and suggests a promising use of dpdo as potential ameliorative agents in the animal model of OA and could act as anti-inflammatory agent in case of severe infection with COVID-19. It is clearly appeared in improving the bone cortex and bone marrow in the treated group with the novel compound in histological and transmission electron microscopic sections which is a very important issue today in fighting severe infections that have significant effects on the blood indices and declining of blood corpuscles like COVID-19, in addition to declining the genotoxicity and inflammation induced by MA in male rats. The novel synthesized compound was highly effective in improving all the above mentioned parameters.

 Objective: The current study was designed to estimate the potential protective role of the aqueous extract of rosemary (AER) (Rosmarinus officinalis) against trichloroacetic acid (TCA)-created hepatotoxicity in male albino rats.Methods: Forty male albino rats were separated into four groups of ten: Group I served as control; Group II was given AER (200 mg/kg/day) by gavage; Group III received TCA at the dose 50 mg/kg/day, and Group V was treated with AER (200 mg/kg/day) and received TCA (50 mg/kg/day). The experiment was carried out for 2 months.Results: The toxicity of TCA for rats was revealed by an elevation in liver marker enzymes activities (gamma-glutamyl transferase [GGT], alkaline phosphatase [ALP], aspartate transaminase [AST], alanine aminotransferase [ALT]) and conjugated bilirubin (CB) level, and a decrease in albumin and total protein (TP) levels. The TCA administration also caused a significant increase in the activities of catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), and also malondialdehyde (MDA) level in liver tissues. These biochemical effects were accompanied by histological indicators of liver damage. Treatment with ARE recovered the liver damage instigated by TCA, as showed by perfection of liver enzyme markers (GGT, ALT, AST, ALP), CB, TP and albumin; as well as antioxidant parameters (CAT, SOD, GPx) and lipid peroxidation (MDA) and amelioration of histopathology changes in the liver tissues.Conclusion: It could be concluded that AER supplementation for 2 months in TCA-induced toxicity in rats benefited hepatic antioxidant status and improved liver injury and damage in male albino rats exposed to TCA.

Background: Atherosclerosis is diverse disease with heterogenous mechanisms of progression and is an oxidative, chronic inflammatory and thrombotic disease produced by elevated level of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in the blood. Initiation of atherosclerosis begins with the production of various inflammatory cytokines and adhesive molecules on the endothelium of the large muscular arteries like aorta. The present study was carried out to know the expression of TNF-Alpha and IL-18 by real time PCR (Polymerase chain reaction). Methods: Procured 24 Wistar albino rats and divided into two groups consisting of 12 rats in each. Atherosclerosis was induced by addition of 1% cholesterol and 15% saturated oil to the 1000g of standard rat diet and given to group II rats. Group I kept as control and maintained for 90 days. Result: Group II rats clinically showed obesity with significant increase (p less than 0.05) in the body weight. TC, TG, LDL-C, VLDL-C were significantly (p less than 0.05) higher, whereas HDL-C was significantly (p less than 0.05) reduced. Atherogenic diet induced the initiation of atherosclerosis in the aorta with degeneration of endothelial cells, sub intimal lipid laden macrophages (foam cells), slight thickening of the tunica intima with proliferation of few SMCs in group I rats. Present study revealed positive expression of TNF- alpha and no expression of IL-18 cytokine in the aorta of group II rats by RT-PCR.

Saraca asoca has been traditionally used in Indian system for treatment of uterine, genital, and other reproductive disorders in women, fever, pain, and inflammation. The hypothesis of this study is that acetone extract of Saraca asoca seeds is an effective anti-inflammatory treatment for arthritis in animal experiments. The antiarthritic effect of its oral administration on Freund’s adjuvant-induced arthritis has been studied in Wistar albino rats after acute and subacute toxicities. Phytochemical analysis revealed presence of high concentrations of phenolic compounds such as flavonoids and tannins, while no mortality or morbidity was observed up to 1000 mg/kg dose during acute and subacute toxicity assessments. Regular treatment up to 21 days of adjuvant-induced arthritic rats with Saraca asoca acetone extract (at 300 and 500 mg/kg doses) increases RBC and Hb, decreases WBC, ESR, and prostaglandin levels in blood, and restores body weight when compared with control (normal saline) and standard (Indomethacin) groups. Significant (P<0.05) inhibitory effect was observed especially at higher dose on paw edema, ankle joint inflammation, and hydroxyproline and glucosamine concentrations in urine. Normal radiological images of joint and histopathological analysis of joint, liver, stomach, and kidney also confirmed its significant nontoxic, antiarthritic, and anti-inflammatory effect.

Among men of working age, chronic prostatitis is the most common urological disease, and its inherent symptoms are a common reason for seeking urological care. To date, there is no single universal successful therapy for chronic prostatitis. Therefore, it justifies the further search for new methods of treatment of patients with this pathology. The objective: the aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of immunomodulatory therapy in treatment of patients with chronic nonbacterial prostatitis with inflammatory chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS (NIH IIIA)). Materials and methods. Under observation there were 78 patients with chronic nonbacterial prostatitis, with inflammatory chronic pelvic pain syndrome (NIH IIIA), with a disease duration of more than 2 years and low effectiveness of treatment on the background of standard therapy. All patients received standard therapy according to the clinical protocol. Some patients (group 58-II) on the background of standard therapy were additionally prescribed Overin (cridanimod sodium salt 250 mg/2 ml in 1 amp.) From the pharmaceutical company “Geolik Pharm Marketing Group” 2 ml intramuscularly once a day every 48 h, 10 injections, followed by a comparative evaluation of clinical results relative to the control group of patients (group 20 – I) who received only standard therapy, immediately after treatment and 6 months after treatment. Results. It was found that the use of standard therapy, Overin, in patients with chronic nonbacterial prostatitis with inflammatory chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS – NIHIII A), contributed to a longer and lasting clinical effect, in contrast to the results in the group of patients who received only standard therapy. According to the assessment of the general condition (S+QoL) in group I of patients after treatment and 6 months after the standard course of treatment, the indicator improved by 38.5 and 30.9 %, respectively (p<0.05). Whereas in group II of patients, the score (S+QoL) after treatment after 6 months was 52.8 % and 49.1 % lower than before treatment (p<0.05). Overin has also been shown to be more effective in terms of the severity of the inflammatory process according to the results of prostate secretion microscopy. Lack of inflammatory activity in the prostate, in the presence of less than 10 leukocytes in the field of view at microscopy of its secretion in patients of group I after treatment was observed in 55 %, after 6 months in 45 % of patients, respectively in group II was in 77.3 % after treatment and in 75 % of patients 6 months after treatment. A more visible positive dynamics of immune status in the second group of patients was obtained. Namely, after treatment, there was a probable increase in IFN-γ in the blood by 29.9 % and a decrease in IL-6 by 2.7 times (in ejaculate by 3.2) while maintaining the visible dynamics compared to input data before treatment after 6 months (p<0.05). Whereas in the blood of patients of group I IFN-γ increased after treatment by only 5.5 % and IL-6 decreased by 24.0 % (ejaculate by 22.9 %). The level of sІgA in the ejaculate of patients of group I after treatment increased by 15.7 %, while in group II by 30.2 % (p<0.05). After 6 months, the studied indicators of immune status in the blood and ejaculate of patients of group I, visibly did not differ from the data in this group before treatment (p>0.05). Conclusions. The use of Overin on the background of standard therapy in patients with inflammatory form of CP/CPPS, contributes to a stable and long-lasting clinical effect, which is confirmed by the dynamics of the obtained clinical and laboratory data.

The present study was designed to compare the anti-inflammatory effect of sodium hyaluronate, which is similar to the lubricant fluid that found naturally in the capsule of the healthy joint with diclofenac sodium, a member of NSAIDs commonly used in treatment of Osteoarthritis (OA), separately and in combination on an experimental model of osteoarthritis in rats induced by monosodium-iodoacetate (MIA). Twenty-five male albino rats weighing at the beginning of the experiment 160± 20 gm were used in this study. Rats were housed in cages at 25± 0.5°C. The rats were divided into 5 main groups.

Background: Mimosa pudica is a traditionally used folk medicine to treat various disorders like infections, anxiety, depression, bleeding disorders, convulsions, rheumatoid arthritis, muscular pain, asthma, snake bite etc. We evaluated the anti-inflammatory activity of hydroalcoholic extract of Mimosa pudica whole plant (HAEMPWP) in rats.Methods: HAEMPWP was prepared using Soxhlets apparatus. Acute toxicity tests were done with HAEMPWP given orally to albino rats in increasing doses up to 3200 mg/ kg body weight. The anti-inflammatory action was evaluated by Carrageenan induced paw edema method. Thirty albino rats were grouped into five groups and each contained six rats. Group I (control group) received distilled water orally. Group II (standard) received Aspirin orally dissolved in distilled water. Groups III, IV and V received HAEMPWP in doses of 200 mg/kg, 400 mg/kg and 800mg/kg orally dissolved in distilled water. Data analysis was done by one way ANOVA and unpaired t test using SPSS 16 for windows.Results: HAEMPWP showed a significant anti-inflammatory activity as compared to control. There was no statistically significant dose dependent increase in the anti-inflammatory activity.Conclusions: HAEMPWP possesses significant anti-inflammatory activity and could be an effective treatment option for various inflammatory conditions.

In-flammation is the body’s reaction to foreign substances that enter the body with signs of redness, heat, swelling, pain, and impaired organ functions. Curcuma rhizome including medicinal plants that have properties relieve the pain and inflammation of the skin. The purpose of this research was to examine the anti-iflammation effect of Curcuma zedoaria (Berg) Roscoe Rhizome infusion on carrageenan induced paw edema in rats. This research used experimental method with completely randomized design. Twenty five healthy Wistar male rats, 2-3 months old and 150-250 g divided into five groups and each group consist of 5 rats. Rats in group I that served as negative control were given 2.5 mL/200gbw of aquadest. Rats in group II as positive control were given sodium diclofenac with dose of 6.75 mg/kgbw. Group III, IV, and V were given Curcuma zedoaria (Berg) Roscoe Rhizome infusion with dose of 0.625, 1.250 and 2.500 g/kgbw, respectively. Treatments were given per oral 1 hour before injection of 0.1 ml carrageenan 1% subplantar. Rat paw edema volume was measured before and after carrageenan injection. The measurement was done every 0.5 hour for 6 hours observation. Area Under the Curve (AUC) that is calculated from paw edema volume data, was use to calculate percentage of anti-inflammatory effect. Data were analyzed with one way Anova and Least Signifi cant Difference with confi dence level 95%. Infusion of Curcuma zedoaria Rhizome with doses of 0,625, 1,250, and 2,500 g/kgbw had anti-inflammatory effect in Wistar male rats which were induced by Carrageenan 1%. Percentage of anti-inflammation effect (44,16+5,11)%, (48,70+7,05)%, (59,09+9,61)% respectively and the effects were equivalent with positive control.Key words: Anti-inflammation, Curcuma zedoaria (Berg) Roscoe, infusion, Carrageenan.
