Services are the key of success in operation management. Designing the effective strategies by optimization techniques is the fundamental and important condition for performance increase in service operations (SOs) management. In this paper, we mainly focus on investigating SOs optimization in the areas of supply chain management, which create the greatest business values. Specifically, we study the recent development of SOs optimization associated with supply chain by categorizing them into four different industries (i.e., e-commerce industry, consumer service industry, public sector, and fashion industry) and four various SOs features (i.e., advertising, channel coordination, pricing, and inventory). Moreover, we conduct the technical review on the stylish industries/topics and typical optimization models. The classical optimization approaches for SOs management in supply chain are presented. The managerial implications of SOs in supply chain are discussed.

Purpose: This research aims to develop framework in the sustainable supply chain management (SCM) and to provide causal model of service industry specifically in higher education laboratory.Design/methodology/approach: The concepts of sustainable SCM in higher education laboratory were obtained by in-depth interviews and organized using Delphi method. While to identify the relationship between concepts, intuitionistic fuzzy cognitive map was utilized.Findings: As many as 15 concepts were identified to assess sustainability in the higher education laboratory SCM. These 15 concepts were classified into four categories according to its importance level, and there are two most important concepts: legal requirement and social responsibility. It is recommended for higher education laboratories to constantly obey national and regional government regulations and to satisfy current and prospective employers by providing work-ready graduates. This suggestion is expected to make higher education achieving its sustainability goals.  Originality/value: This research is the first to develop a framework for sustainable SCM and to provide a causal model of the service industry especially in the education sector using intuitionistic fuzzy cognitive map.

Problem definition: The lessons learned over decades of supply chain management provide an opportunity for stakeholders in complex systems, such as healthcare, to understand, evaluate, and improve their complicated and often inefficient ecosystems. Academic/practical relevance: The complexity in managing healthcare supply chains offers opportunities for important and impactful research avenues in key supply chain management areas such as coordination and integration (e.g., new care models), mass customization (e.g., the rise in precision medicine), and incentives (e.g., emerging reimbursement schemes), which might, in turn, provide insights relevant to traditional supply chains. We also put forward new perspectives for practice and possible research directions for the supply chain management community. Methodology: We provide a primer on supply chain thinking in healthcare, with a focus on healthcare delivery, by following a framework that is customer focused, systems based, and strategically orientated and that simultaneously considers clinical, operational, and financial dimensions. Our goal is to offer an understanding of how concepts and strategies in supply chain management can be applied and tailored to healthcare by considering the sector’s unique challenges and opportunities. Results: After identifying key healthcare stakeholders and their interactions, we discuss the main challenges facing healthcare services from a supply chain perspective and provide examples of how various supply chain strategies are being and can be used in healthcare. Managerial implications: By using supply chain thinking, healthcare organizations can decrease costs and improve the quality of care by uncovering, quantifying, and addressing inefficiencies.

Electronic commerce (EC) is possibly the most promising application of information technology witnessed in recent years. It is revolutionizing supply-chain management and has enormous potential for manufacturing, retail and service operations. E-commerce markets are growing at noticeable rates. The online market is expected to grow by 56% in 2015–2020. This paper shows the importance of E-commerce and define it and examines its major elements that link organizational systems. The application of EC in manufacturing, retailing and service operations is examined, and a framework for describing EC components and their role in different areas of an organization is proposed. The first part of the paper discusses challenges and new trends in supply chain business intelligence and provides background research of big data initiatives related to EC. The rest of this paper is from a discussion of the e-commerce impact on supply chain management and the advantages of supply chain management of e-commerce platform. The trend of e-commerce platform is proposed based on the development supply chain management. What will be the effect of the Internet on supply chain? What is the relationship between e-commerce and supply chain management?

The prospect of use of digital technologies in supply chain management companies of the fashion industry has been considered. It has been revealed, that digital technologies are actively applied at various stages of logistic process in the companies of this industry. Classification of such digital technologies has been carried out and the most perspective directions for use in the companies of fashion industry have been highlighted, among which it is possible to call: 3D printing technology, technology of virtual fitting room, clever mirrors technology and others. It has been substantiated, that use and implementation of the information-communicative technologies, is one of the most perspective directions of development of digitalization in supply chain management and logistics.


In food processing industry, implementation of supply chain management (SCM) is confronting and complex one by involving different barriers because if affects the performance of organization. If some barriers are noticed, observed and recognized it can be reduced. The objective of the paper is to recognize the barriers by risk assessment. Risk assessment in an industry can help supply chain managers to choose effective decision of the problems. This research proposes a case study conducted on the leading food processing industry in southern region of India. In this paper, to analyze the barriers by using hybrid multi-criteria decision making method like Decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL). Barriers collected from the literature survey were used to evaluate the most influential barriers of supply chain management with the assist of industrial experts. The suggested framework was validated with case industry and the results are compared with the existing literatures and comments from experts. Also, this paper finishes with an assessment of own drawbacks beside the identification of useful managerial implications; it depicts future developments possible in the process of supply chain management in the context of India.
