Novel BiOBr hierarchical microspheres have been successfully prepared via a facile microwave-assisted solvothermal route and used for visible-light photocatalytic degradation of RhB. The phase and morphology of the products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), BET, and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra. The SEM observations displayed that BiOBr flower-like nanostructure assembled from nanosheets. The BiOBr flower-like nanostructure, with a narrow band gap (2.63 eV), shows excellent photocatalytic activity in the degradation of RhB dye under visible-light, much higher than those of BiOBr nanosheet and P25 photocatalysts.

Nanostructured ZnGa2S4with indirect band gap was prepared by a simple thiourea reduction method. As-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-Vis). The visible-light photocatalytic activity of the ZnGa2S4was evaluated by the degradation of methylene blue (MB) aqueous solution. The high photoactivities of ZnGa2S4can be attributed to the small band gap and large surface area, which is beneficial for degradation of pollutants and enhancement of transfer of photogenerated carriers.

Abstract Cu-doped TiO2 having a brookite phase and showing enhanced visible light photocatalytic activity was synthesized using a mild solvothermal method. The as-prepared samples were characterized by various techniques, such as X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Photocatalytic activity of Cu-doped brookite TiO2 nanoparticles was evaluated by photodegradation of methylene blue under visible light irradiation. The X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the crystallite size of Cu-doped brookite TiO2 samples decreased with the increase of Cu concentration in the samples. The UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy analysis of the Cu-doped TiO2 samples showed a shift to lower energy levels in the band gap compared with that of bare phase brookite TiO2. Cu doped brookite TiO2 can obviously improve its visible light photocatalytic activity because of Cu ions acting as electron acceptors and inhibiting electron-hole recombination. The brookite TiO2 sample with 7.0 wt.% Cu showed the highest photocatalytic activity and the corresponding degradation rate of MB (10 mg/L) reached to 87 % after visible light illumination for 120 min, much higher than that of bare brookite TiO2 prepared under the same conditions (78 %).

Monoclinic BiVO4powders were synthesized via a novel route using potassium metavanadate (KVO3) prepared by calcination of K2CO3and V2O5as a starting material and followed by hydrothermal treatment and were investigated for the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light irradiation. The synthesized BiVO4particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and UV-Visible (UV-Vis) light diffuse reflectance spectrophotometry. The synthesis produced pure monoclinic BiVO4particles with multimorphological features containing flower-like, flake-ball, flake, cuboid-like, and plate-like shapes and exhibited strong absorption in the visible light range. The BiVO4prepared via KVO3possessed excellent photocatalytic activity for the degradation of RhB under visible light. The performance of this catalyst was found to be superior to other BiVO4photocatalysts prepared via ammonium metavanadate (NH4VO3) using coprecipitation, combustion, and calcination methods reported in literature, respectively.

Boron-BiVO4 samples were synthesized by sol-gel method. They were characterized by UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction. Photocatalytic activity of the obtained BiVO4 samples was investigated through degrading methylene blue (MB). The results reveal that boron-BiVO4 catalysts have monoclinic scheelite structure. The BiVO4 and Co-BiVO4 photocatalysts were responsive to visible light. Co-BiVO4 photocatalyst showed higher photocatalytic activity than pure BiVO4, resulting in the significantly improved efficiency of degradation of MB.

p-n heterojunction Ag2CO3/Ag3PO4/Ni thin films were prepared by electrochemical co-deposition. The surface morphology and structural properties of the thin films were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS). The photocatalytic (PC) properties of the Ag2CO3/Ag3PO4/Ni composite thin films were investigated by their ability to degrade rhodamine B (RhB) and Congo red (CR) under visible light irradiation. The results showed that the photodegradation efficiency of RhB by an Ag2CO3/Ag3PO4/Ni thin film under visible-light irradiation for 30[Formula: see text]min (98.84%) was 2.64 times higher than that of an Ag3PO4/Ni thin film and 3.44 times higher than of an Ag2CO3/Ni thin film. The presence of a [Formula: see text]-[Formula: see text] heterojunction greatly increased the charge conductivity of the film and its ability to photocatalytically reduce dissolved oxygen, which are the main reasons for the improved PC performance of the Ag2CO3/Ag3PO4/Ni films.

Nanocrystalline CuInSe2 (CIS) powders were synthesized with a simple open-air solvothermal method as well as under conditions of applying internal imposed pressure. No post-treating processes such as annealing or selenization were used in both methods. The synthesis processes involved the reaction of precursors in an autoclave for different process times. Structural, morphological, and opto-electronic properties of CIS powders were compared. X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD) confirmed the formation of chalcopyrite structure of CIS powders in both approaches at reaction temperature of 220 °C and for short process time. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) results show that while CIS powders synthesized under the atmospheric condition are mostly agglomerated, particles have more specific shapes in samples synthesized under internal imposed pressure. Furthermore, the band gap energies of synthesized CIS powders were obtained using diffuse reflectance UV-vis spectroscopy (DRS) measurements.

B-doped TiO2nanotube arrays (B-TNTs) were synthesized by anodization method combined with dip-calcination technique. The physicochemical properties and surface morphology were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectrum (DRS). Methyl blue (MB) solution was utilized as the degradation model to evaluate the photocatalytic activity of B-TNTs under visible light irradiation. The results show B-TNTs shifts the absorption edge of TiO2nanotube arrays to the visible light region and B-TNTs displays higher photocatalytic activity compared with undoped TNTs.

Using Fe (NO3)3⋅9H2O, Y(NO3)3⋅6H2O and citric acid as the main raw material, the YFeO3 nanoparticles were synthesized by ultrasonic assisted process and calcination. The YFeO3 nanoparticles were characterized by thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The results show that the perovskite structureYFeO3 (YFeO3-800) can be obtained through the calcination of ultrasonic processed YFeO3 precursors at 800 °C, and the resulting product has a particle size of 70 nm and an optical band gap of 2.0 eV. Consequently, the YFeO3-800 nanoparticles show high photocatalytic activity for decomposition of methyl orange under visible-light irradiation.
