The optimal investment and consumption problem is investigated for an insurance company, which is subject to the payment of high-watermark fee from profit. The objective of insurance company is to maximize the expected cumulated discount utility up to ruin time. The consumption behavior considered in this paper can be viewed as dividend payment of the insurance company. It turns out that the value function of the proposed problem is the viscosity solution to the associated HJB equation. The regularity of the viscosity is discussed and some asymptotic results are provided. With the help of the smooth properties of viscosity solutions, we complete the verification theorem of the optimal control policies and the potential applications of the main result are discussed.

AbstractWe consider an insurance company whose surplus is governed by a jump diffusion risk process. The insurance company can purchase proportional reinsurance for claims and invest its surplus in a risk-free asset and a risky asset whose return follows a jump diffusion process. Our main goal is to find an optimal investment and proportional reinsurance policy which maximizes the expected exponential utility of the terminal wealth. By solving the corresponding Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equation, closed-form solutions for the value function as well as the optimal investment and proportional reinsurance policy are obtained. We also discuss the effects of parameters on the optimal investment and proportional reinsurance policy by numerical calculations.

Consider an insurance company whose surplus is modelled by an arithmetic Brownian motion of not necessarily positive drift. Additionally, the insurer has the possibility to invest in a stock modelled by a geometric Brownian motion independent of the surplus. Our key variable is the (absolute) drawdown Δ of the surplus X, defined as the distance to its running maximum X¯. Large, long-lasting drawdowns are unfavourable for the insurance company. We consider the stochastic optimisation problem of minimising the expected time that the drawdown is larger than a positive critical value (weighted by a discounting factor) under investment. A fixed-point argument is used to show that the value function is the unique solution to the Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equation related to the problem. It turns out that the optimal investment strategy is given by a piecewise monotone and continuously differentiable function of the current drawdown. Several numerical examples illustrate our findings.

Objectives: This paper proposes a strategy of robust optimal investment reinsurance for insurance companies. It was assumed that the surplus procedure of the insurance company satisfies the jump-diffusion procedure. Insurance companies could invest their surplus funds in the financial market consisted of both risk assets and one risk-free asset. The price procedure of risk assets satisfies the stochastic procedure with a mean reversion rate. Considering the uncertainty of the model, the ambiguity-averse insurance firm aims to enhance the exponential utility of insurance surplus at terminal time. This paper has investigated the problem of robust optimal investment reinsurance and obtained the differential equation supported by the value function.

This paper studies an investment-consumption problem under inflation. The consumption price level, the prices of the available assets, and the coefficient of the power utility are assumed to be sensitive to the states of underlying economy modulated by a continuous-time Markovian chain. The definition of admissible strategies and the verification theory corresponding to this stochastic control problem are presented. The analytical expression of the optimal investment strategy is derived. The existence, boundedness, and feasibility of the optimal consumption are proven. Finally, we analyze in detail by mathematical and numerical analysis how the risk aversion, the correlation coefficient between the inflation and the stock price, the inflation parameters, and the coefficient of utility affect the optimal investment and consumption strategy.

In this paper, we study the optimal investment and reinsurance problem of an insurance company whose investment preferences are described via a forward dynamic exponential utility in a regime-switching market model. Financial and actuarial frameworks are dependent since stock prices and insurance claims vary according to a common factor given by a continuous time finite state Markov chain. We construct the value function and we prove that it is a forward dynamic utility. Then, we characterize the optimal investment strategy and the optimal proportional level of reinsurance. We also perform numerical experiments and provide sensitivity analyses with respect to some model parameters.

This paper considers the optimal dividend and capital injection problem for an insurance company, which controls the risk exposure by both the excess-of-loss reinsurance and capital injection based on the symmetry of risk information. Besides the proportional transaction cost, we also incorporate the fixed transaction cost incurred by capital injection and the salvage value of a company at the ruin time in order to make the surplus process more realistic. The main goal is to maximize the expected sum of the discounted salvage value and the discounted cumulative dividends except for the discounted cost of capital injection until the ruin time. By considering whether there is capital injection in the surplus process, we construct two instances of suboptimal models and then solve for the corresponding solution in each model. Lastly, we consider the optimal control strategy for the general model without any restriction on the capital injection or the surplus process.
