A multi-input multi-output (MIMO) antenna with high isolation is proposed for 2.4 GHz ISM band (2.4–2.485 GHz) WBAN applications. The proposed MIMO antenna consists of two PIFA elements and utilizes an isolator composed of a shorted strip and two slits in the ground plane. Although the separation between the two PIFAs is minimized to 8 mm (0.06 λ∘), isolation performance is improved by virtue of an isolator. To analyze the antenna’s performance on a human body, the proposed antenna is placed on a human muscle-equivalent flat phantom and is investigated through simulations. The measured −10 dB reflection coefficient bandwidth of the antenna ranges from 2.11 GHz to 2.6 GHz, and the isolation is lower than −38 dB over the 2.4 GHz ISM band.

A planar MIMO antenna with slits for WBAN applications is proposed. The antenna consists of two PIFAs, ground pads, and two slits. By adding ground pads, the antenna size is reduced with improved impedance matching. Through two slits in a ground plane, the isolation characteristic is improved and the resonant frequency can be controlled. To analyze the antenna performance on a human body, the proposed antenna on a human equivalent flat phantom is investigated through simulations. Regardless of the existence of the phantom, the antenna operates in 2.4 GHz ISM band with the isolation higher than 18 dB.

This paper presented a planar printed multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with a dimension of 100 x 45 mm2. It composed of two crescent shaped radiators placed symmetrically with respect to the ground plane. Neutralization line applied to suppress mutual coupling. The proposed antenna examined both theoretically and experimentally, which achieves an impedance bandwidth of 18.67% (over 2.04-2.46 GHz) with a reflection coefficient < -10 dB and mutual coupling minimization of < -20 dB. An evaluation of MIMO antennas is presented, with analysis of correlation coefficient, total active reflection coefficient (TARC), capacity loss and channel capacity. These characteristics indicate that the proposed antenna suitable for some wireless applications.

This paper presents a multiple-input and multiple-output dual-element planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) array for broadband operation covering the HIgh PERformance radio Local Area Network/2 (5.2 GHz/5.6 GHz), Wireless Local Area Network (5.2 GHz/5.8 GHz), and the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (5.5 GHz) bands for the compact wireless communication devices. The antenna dimension is reduced substantially with a miniature ground plane. The PIFA array provides a large bandwidth (670 MHz) and a high isolation between its ports less than −26 dB. The proposed antenna has been analyzed and designed with Ansoft HFSS v.11. Then a prototype was fabricated and tested for its performance in terms of bandwidth, S-parameters, and radiation pattern. A parametric study is made to analyze the effect of different PIFA parameters on the operating frequency and the S-parameters. The diversity performances are evaluated using computer simulation technology microwave studio (CSTMWS). The broadband performance and the high isolation are achieved in both simulation and measurement.

This paper demonstrates a compact MIMO (Multi Input Multi Output) fractal type antenna for ultra-wide band applications. The proposed antenna is manufactured on a lowcost substrate material and the design is analyzed for various iterations in terms of reflection coefficient, gain, and bandwidth. The 50 Ω transmission line feed is used for both fractal patches and a metamaterial structure is used as the ground plane. The proposed design achieved a wide-band frequency response between 5.8 and 15 GHz, with the reflection coefficient of less than –10 dB. Reduced mutual coupling, positive gain and stable radiation patterns were observed throughout the operating band as well. The bandwidth of 9.2 GHz is achieved with the use of a metamaterial structure on the ground plane. The ECC and diversity gain obtained prove the excellent diversity performance of the antenna. The design was simulated using HFSS software and was tested in a lab.

A Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna with high isolation is proposed in this paper. The proposed antenna includes two sets of four elements (2 x 2) and it is yielded at the central frequency of 5.5 GHz for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) applications. Based on RT5880 with height of 1.575 mm, the overall size of MIMO antenna is 140 x 76 x 1.575 mm3. To get high isolation between antenna elements, a Defected Ground Structure (DGS) is integrated on ground plane. Besides, the MIMO antenna witnesses a large bandwidth of 9.1% and an efficiency of 90% while the pick gain is 8.5 dBi. The measurement results are compared to simulation ones to verify the performance of the proposed antenna.

A miniaturized ultra-wideband multiple-input multiple-output (UWB MIMO) two-port antenna with high isolation based on FR4 is designed in this article. The size of the antenna is only 18 × 28 × 1.6 mm3. The MIMO antenna consists of two identical antenna elements symmetrically placed on the same dielectric substrate in opposite directions. By loading three crossed X-shaped stubs between two unconnected ground planes, high isolation and good impedance matching are achieved. The working frequency band measured by this UWB MIMO antenna is 1.9–14 GHz, and the isolation is kept above 20.2 dB in the whole analysis frequency band. Good radiation characteristics as well as envelope correlation coefficient (ECC, <0.09), mean effective gain (MEG), and channel capacity loss (CCL) in the passband meet the requirements of the application, which can be applied to the UWB wireless communication system. To verify the applicability of the proposed method for enhancing the isolation between antenna elements, the two-port antenna structure was extended to a four-port antenna structure. In the case of loading the X-shaped stubs to connect to the ground plane, the isolation of the antenna is maintained above 15.5 dB within 1.7–14 GHz.

Abstract For the operation of 2.45GHz ISM band, a 2x2 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna system is designed and fabricated. Complementary Split Ring Resonator (CSRR) is used in the MIMO patch and loaded on its ground plane to miniaturize the single antenna element. The single patch antenna element of 14x18 mm2 is fixed in a board of the Designed MIMO antennae system measuring 100x50x0.8 mm3. The antenna is tested by measuring radiation pattern, gain, VSWR, mutual coupling and return loss. The results of the Designed antenna systems are in good agreement with the simulations. In comparison to a conventional microstrip antenna, the Designed antenna achieves a 75% reduction in the resonant frequency.
