Hypersensitivity to external sounds is often comorbid with tinnitus and may be significant for adherence to certain types of tinnitus management. Therefore, a clear measure of sensitivity to sound is important. The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Hyperacusis Questionnaire (HQ) for use as a measurement tool using data from a sample of 264 adults who took part in tinnitus research. We evaluated the HQ factor structure, internal consistency, convergent and discriminant validity, and floor and ceiling effects. Internal consistency was high (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.88) and moderate correlations were observed between the HQ, uncomfortable loudness levels, and other health questionnaires. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the original HQ three-factor solution and a one-factor solution were both a poor fit to the data. Four problematic items were removed and exploratory factor analysis identified a two-factor (attentional and social) solution. The original three-factor structure of the HQ was not confirmed. All fourteen items do not accurately assess hypersensitivity to sound in a tinnitus population. We propose a 10-item (2-factor) version of the HQ, which will need to be confirmed using a new tinnitus and perhaps nontinnitus population.

Abstract The psychometric characteristics of the Dark Triad Scale in an Argentinian context are presented. Two successive studies were carried out. Three hundred sixteen people, with an average age of 34.48 years (SD = 10.57), participated in Study 1. An exploratory factor analysis indicated a three-factor structure with suitable internal consistency (Machiavellianism: α = 0.92; narcissism: α = 0.91, and psychopathy: α = 0.89). Two hundred seventy-five people, with an average age of 32 years (SD = 8.10), participated in Study 2. A confirmatory factor analysis corroborated the three-factor structure. The three factors reached Satisfactory Composite Reliability (greater than 0.70) and adequate Convergent-Discriminant Validity (Average Variance Extrated greater than 0.50). The invariance of the scale’s parameters was demonstrated by sex. The results indicate that the Argentinian version of the Dark Triad Scale measures the dark side of personality with appropriate validity and reliability, both in men and women.

Microaggressions are daily insults to minority individuals such as people with disabilities (PWD) that communicate messages of exclusion, inferiority, and abnormality. In this study, we developed a new scale, the Ableist Microaggressions Impact Questionnaire (AMIQ), which assesses ableist microaggression experiences of PWD. Data from 245 PWD were collected using Amazon’s Mechanical Turk (MTurk) platform. An exploratory factor analysis of the 25-item AMIQ revealed a three-factor structure with internal consistency reliability ranging between .87 and .92. As a more economical and psychometrically sound instrument assessing microaggression impact as it pertains to disability, the AMIQ offers promise for rehabilitation counselor research and practice.

The first purpose of this study was to define the construct of occupational identity and develop the scale of occupational identity, the second purpose of this study was to examine the factor structure of occupational identity using exploratory common factor analysis and test the discriminant validity of occupational identity with workplace satisfaction, and third purpose of this study was to test the model of antecedents and outcome variables of occupational identity using confirmatory factor analysis. For fulfilling these purposes, three studies were conducted. Data were gathered from 390 workers in study 1, 505 workers in study 2, 1,115 workers in study 3. As a result, the three-factor structure of occupational identity was stably replicated, although the sample was changed. The occupational identity had discriminant validity with workplace satisfaction. Except for person-occupation fit(a subfactor of occupational identity) had a high correlation with general, occupational satisfaction(a subfactor of workplace satisfaction), other subfactors of occupational identity generally had low correlations with other subfactors of workplace satisfaction. It was found that the occupational identity was derived from occupational reputation, dedication to the occupation, occupational pride, and mission to the occupation. And the occupational identity resulted in the purpose of the worker’s life and intention to continue the worker’s occupation. Based on these results, We made discussions about implications, limitations, and future research tasks.

The Gilliam Autism Rating Scale-Second Edition (GARS-2) is a widely used screening instrument that assists in the identification and diagnosis of autism. The purpose of this study was to examine the factor structure, internal consistency, and screening sensitivity of the GARS-2 using ratings from special education teaching staff for a sample of 240 individuals with autism or other significant developmental disabilities. Exploratory factor analysis yielded a correlated three-factor solution similar to that found in 2005 by Lecavalier for the original GARS. Though the three factors appeared to be reasonably consistent with the intended constructs of the three GARS-2 subscales, the analysis indicated that more than a third of the GARS-2 items were assigned to the wrong subscale. Internal consistency estimates met or exceeded standards for screening and were generally higher than those in previous studies. Screening sensitivity was .65 and specificity was .81 for the Autism Index using a cut score of 85. Based on these findings, recommendations are made for instrument revision.

Background. The study was carried out with the aim to examine the construct validity and reliability of a Prosocial Tendencies Measure–Revised (PTM-R) (Carlo, Hausmann, Christiansen, & Randall, 2003). Methods. The study process was done following four stages. In stage 1, 984 adolescents between ages of 13 to 16 years (M age = 14.9, SD = 0.97; 50.3% girls) completed a translated version of the scale. In this stage Exploratory Factor Analyses (EFA) was carried out in order to measure the structure of the PTM-R. In stage 2, 757 adolescents between ages of 13 to 16 years (M age = 14.24, SD = .81; 51.78% girls) completed the questionnaire and Confirmatory Factor Analyses (CFA) was made. In stage 3, validity of the PTM-R was investigated. In stage 4, reliability of the measure was tested by evaluating Cronbach’s alpha values. Results. Exploratory Factor analysis of the PTM-R revealed four-factor solutions. A six-factor solution as in original measure was not obtained. Confirmatory factor analysis confirms four-factor structure of PTM-R and supports the multidimensional definition of prosocial behaviour. Three types of prosocial behaviour as anonymity, altruism, and public prosocial behaviour was the same as in the original measure. Other three types of prosocial behaviour emerged as one factor and were entitled as help in emergency. Correlation analyses between prosocial behaviour and different types of aggression showed good level of discriminant validity. Coefficient alpha was used to estimate of reliability based on the internal consistency among items. Alpha coefficients were .85 for help in emergency, .71 for anonymous prosocial behaviour, .68 for altruistic behaviour, and .59 for public prosocial behaviour. Conclusions. In conclusion, the four-factor structure of PTM-R was obtained. Results showed that the adapted measure was valid and reliable for Lithuanian adolescents aged between 13 and 16. Contradiction to the original measure structure and future research directions are discussed.

The goal of this study is to develop a Guidance Qualification Scale for Preschool Teachers and examine the validity and reliability of the scale. The research was conducted with 374 teachers working in preschools in Istanbul and they were chosen by the random sampling method. Factor analysis was carried out for the construct validity of the scale. Internal consistency coefficients and test-retest reliabilities were examined and item analysis was performed for reliability studies. As a result of the factor analysis, 59 items which explained 55,989% of the total variance (Total Variance Explained 45,050%), were obtained under four factors. When the factor weights of the scale are examined, items were found to have weight values ranging from .746 to .453. Cronbach’s Alpha internal consistency coefficients of the “Preschool Teacher’s Guidance Qualifications Scale” were found to be .977 for the total scale, .954 for the "Supporting Educational Development and Interpersonal Relationships" sub-dimension, .943 for the "Supporting Individual Development and Orientation" sub-dimension, .904 for the "Self-acceptance, Support for Self and Social Development" sub-dimension and .909 for the "Recognizing Individuals, Identifying Problems and Supporting Parents" sub-dimension. Also, the test-retest reliability study of the scale was conducted with 44 teachers. According to the results of the t-test applied for differences between the average item scores of upper 27% and lower 27% groups of items on (in?) the scale, all differences were found to be significantly in favor of the upper 27% group. In light of these findings, it can be said that the “Preschool Teacher’s Guidance Qualifications Scale” can be used as a valid and reliable measurement tool in the field of education.

The purpose of this study was to adapt "Online Privacy Concern Scale" developed by Buchanan, Paine, Joinson and Reips (2007) to Turkish culture. The original version of the scale was composed of 16 items gathered under a one-factor structure. During the translation process, expert opinions were taken for the language validity. The scale was pre-administered to 40 participants to pursue linguistic equality. To determine the validity and reliability evidence of the scale, it was administered to two separate groups consisting of adult Internet users. In order to examine and confirm the scale structure, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA and CFA) were conducted. After eliminating two items, EFA showed that the scale had a three-factor structure (email usage, online trust and online payment) in Turkish culture. The Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency of the whole scale was .89. In addition, CFA verified the three-factor solution. The results of the current study confirmed that the Turkish version of the scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool for the assessment of online privacy concern of adult Internet users.

Sociosexuality refers to the propensity to engage in sexual relations without closeness or commitment, varying from a restricted to an unrestricted orientation. The aim of this research was to scrutinise the psychometric properties of a Portuguese version of the revised Sociosexual Orientation Inventory (SOI-R; Penke & Asendorpf, 2008). The study included 549 persons (50% women) aged 18–75 years (M = 38.73; SD = 17.77). The psychometric properties of the SOI-R were analysed by means of confirmatory factor analysis, internal consistency, and validity. Confirmatory factor analysis showed the expected three-factor structure of the measure. The SOI-R presented adequate internal consistency. Women were less unrestricted than men in all facets of sociosexuality. This Portuguese version of the SOI-R seems to be reliable and valid for evaluating sociosexuality in a Portuguese-speaking population, and can be utilised for experimental and applied works. The significance and limitations of the results are discussed.

This study was designed to develop and assess the internal consistency and factor structure of a teacher's scale for the assessment of hyperactive/impulsive and inattentive behavior in a sample of 221 children from different cities in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Forty-five teachers rated the children. The internal consistency of the scale was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha. An orthogonal varimax rotation that maximizes the variance of the squared loadings for each factor was used to find the simplest possible factor structure. There is no internal discrepancy in the item content of the scale. Exploratory factor analysis showed four primary factors (hyperactivity/impulsivity; inattention; social isolation; self-confidence) that are psychologically meaningful. When factor analysis was carried out there was no substantial difference from other studies when compared with the results of other western and oriental countries. It was concluded that this teacher's scale can be a useful aid to clinicians in the identification of children with hyperactivity/impulsivity and inattention problems.

The main purpose of this study is to identify the underlying dimensions of consumer complaining and recovery effort and to develop a multidimensional scale to measure this construct. Literature suggests that the consumer complaining and recovery effort is a four-dimensional construct consisting of procedural, cognitive, time-related, and affective components. Using data collected from hotel guests, a measurement scale is developed to assess this four-dimensional construct. First, a factor analysis is conducted on one set of data. Afterward, the underlying dimensions identified by the exploratory factor analysis are confirmed by conducting a confirmatory factor analysis on a separate set of data. Findings suggest that the scale developed in this study presents substantial convergent validity, discriminant validity, predictive validity, and reliability.
