An ideal positioning response is very difficult to realize in the large electric cylinder system that is applied in missile launcher because of the presence of many nonlinear factors such as load disturbance, parameter variations, lost motion, and friction. This paper presents a piecewise control strategy based on the optimized positioning principle. The combined application of position interpolation method and modified incremental PID with dead band is proposed and applied into control system. The experimental result confirms that this combined control strategy is not only simple to be applied into high accuracy real-time control system but also significantly improves dynamic response, steady accuracy, and anti-interference performance, which has very important significance to improve the smooth control of the large electric cylinder.

Fuzzy control, an intelligent control method, is generally employed to deal with complex nonlinear controlled objects that cannot be expressed by accurate mathematical model. Memristor, whose unique advantages are automatic successive memory and nonvolatility, brought new opportunity for solving the key question of fuzzy control. With the design idea of software harden, this paper first constructed membership function in the fuzzy controller based on the unique feature of crossbar array of the spintronic memristor and elaborated the whole construction process. After that, this paper simulated the construction process with MATLAB simulation software, verifying its reasonability and feasibility. Furthermore, a typical fuzzy control water tank system was chosen to explore and discuss the flexibility of spintronic memristor crossbar array in the real-time control system, and the proposed control strategy and the typical fuzzy control strategy were compared. The results revealed that the proposed control strategy was able to attain the effectiveness of the typical fuzzy control system in the real-time control system. This sets light to future research on the implementation of memristor crossbar array in the real-time control system and also promotes the application of fuzzy controller design idea. The problems needed to be solved when implementing memristor crossbar array in the real-time control system were discussed in the final section.

To achieve stable and simultaneous removal of nitrogen and phosphorus using aerobic granular sludge in a sequencing batch reactor, a real-time control strategy was established, where time derivatives of electric conductivity (EC) and pH were monitored to facilitate the determinations of ends of phosphate release, nitrification and denitrification as well as corresponding optimum time-lengths of anaerobic, oxic, and anoxic phases in treatment cycles. Although biomass concentration in a reactor drastically fluctuated at the startup period because of very short sludge settling time for the formation of aerobic granular sludge, cycle length for proper treatment was automatically adjusted in this control system. Even when characteristics of influent wastewater markedly fluctuated, stable nitrogen and phosphorus removal was successfully attained both before and at pseudo-steady-state. Effluent concentrations of NH4-N, NOx-N and PO4-P were always lower than 0.3 mg/L. On the other hand, when time lengths of the anaerobic/oxic/anoxic phases were fixed, stable nitrogen and phosphorus removal was not accomplished. Therefore, it is clear that the designed control system is very effective to obtain stable treatment performance in simultaneous nitrogen and phosphorus removal by aerobic granular sludge.

Considering the energy consumption and specific performance requirements of mining trucks, a novel uninterrupted multi-speed transmission is proposed in this paper, which is composed of a power-split device, and a three-speed lay-shaft transmission with a traction motor. The power-split device is adapted to enhance the efficiency of the engine by adjusting the gear ratio continuously. The three-speed lay-shaft transmission is designed based on the efficiency map of traction motor to guarantee the drivability. The combination of the power-split device and three-speed lay-shaft transmission can realize uninterrupted gear shifting with the proposed shift strategy, which benefits from the proposed adjunct function by adequately compensating the torque hole. The detailed dynamic models of the system are built to verify the effectiveness of the proposed shift strategy. To evaluate the maximum fuel efficiency that the proposed uninterrupted multi-speed transmission could achieve, dynamic programming is implemented as the baseline. Due to the “dimension curse” of dynamic programming, a real-time control strategy is designed, which can significantly improve the computing efficiency. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed uninterrupted multi-speed transmission with dynamic programming and real-time control strategy can improve fuel efficiency by 11.63% and 8.51% compared with conventional automated manual transmission system, respectively.

ABSTRACTA highly flexible Rapid Thermal Multiprocessing (RTM) reactor is described. This flexibility is the result of several new innovations: a lamp system, an acoustic thermometer and a real-time control system. The new lamp has been optimally designed through the use of a “virtual reactor” methodology to obtain the best possible wafer temperature uniformity. It consists of multiple concentric rings composed of light bulbs with horizontal filaments. Each ring is independently and dynamically controlled providing better control over the spatial and temporal optical flux profile resulting in excellent temperature uniformity over a wide range of process conditions. An acoustic thermometer non-invasively allows complete wafer temperature tomography under all process conditions - a critically important measurement never obtained before. For real-time equipment and process control a model based multivariable control system has been developed. Extensive integration of computers and related technology for specification, communication, execution, monitoring, control, and diagnosis demonstrates the programmability of the RTM.
