Bearing is an important component of mechanical system; any defects of bearing will lead to serious damage for the entire mechanical system. In this paper, Cauchy kernel relevance vector machine with stochastic inertia weight particle swarm optimization algorithm (SIWPSO-CauchyRVM) is proposed to fault diagnosis for bearing. As the selection of the Cauchy kernel parameter has a certain influence on the diagnosis result of relevance vector machine, stochastic inertia weight PSO is used to select the Cauchy kernel parameter. The relative energies of 16 wavelet coefficients of the forth layer of vibration signal of bearing can be used as the diagnosis features of bearing. The experimental results indicate that fault diagnosis method of bearing based on SIWPSO-CauchyRVM has excellent diagnosis ability.

The fault diagnosis model for nonstationary mechanical system is proposed in the condition monitoring. The algorithm with an improved particle filter and Back Propagation for intelligent fault identification is developed, which is used to reduce the noise of the experimental vibration signals to delete the negative effect of the noise on the feature extraction of the original vibration signal. The proposed integrated method is applied for the trouble shoot of the impellers inside the centrifugal pump. The principal component analysis (PCA) method optimizes the clean vibration signal to choose the optimal eigenvalue features. The constructed BP neural network is trained to get the condition models for fault identification. The proposed novel model is compared with the BP neural network based on traditional PF and particle swarm optimization particle filter (PSO-PF) algorithm. The BP neural network diagnosis method based on the improved PF algorithm is much better for the integrity assessment of the centrifugal pump impeller. This method is much significant for big data mining in the fault diagnosis method of the complex mechanical system.

According to the practical requirement of auto manufacturer, excellent fault diagnosis system aiming at simultaneous fault is indispensable for main retarder of automobile. This paper proposes a novel diagnosis method which employs wavelet package transform and sample entropy to achieve feature extraction, later utilize relevance vector machine to construct a set of paired classifiers. Considering that features extracted from vibration signal are multiple and heterogeneous, we combine multi-kernel learning and relevance vector machine together and optimize kernel function parameters by using incremental learning, cross validation and genetic algorithm. Comparing with SVM and PNN, the experiment results verify high diagnosis accuracy and low computational cost of the proposed method.

In this paper, a vibration signal-based hybrid diagnostic method, including vibration signal adaptive decomposition, vibration signal reconstruction, fault feature extraction, and gearbox fault classification, is proposed to realize fault diagnosis of general gearboxes. The main contribution of the proposed method is the combining of signal processing, machine learning, and optimization techniques to effectively eliminate noise contained in vibration signals and to achieve high diagnostic accuracy. Firstly, in the study of vibration signal preprocessing and fault feature extraction, to reduce the impact of noise and mode mixing problems on the accuracy of fault classification, Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) was adopted to realize adaptive signal decomposition and Wolf Grey Optimizer (GWO) was applied to optimize parameters of VMD. The correlation coefficient was subsequently used to select highly correlated Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs) to reconstruct the vibration signals. With these re-constructed signals, fault features were extracted by calculating their time domain parameters, energies, and permutation entropies. Secondly, in the study of fault classification, Kernel Extreme Learning Machine (KELM) was adopted and Differential Evolutionary (DE) was applied to search its regularization coefficient and kernel parameter to further improve classification accuracy. Finally, gearbox vibration signals in healthy and faulty conditions were obtained and contrast experiences were conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid fault diagnosis method.

The health state of rotating machinery directly affects the overall performance of the mechanical system. The monitoring of the operation condition is very important to reduce the downtime and improve the production efficiency. This paper presents a novel rotating machinery fault diagnosis method based on the improved multiscale amplitude-aware permutation entropy (IMAAPE) and the multiclass relevance vector machine (mRVM) to provide the necessary information for maintenance decisions. Once the fault occurs, the vibration amplitude and frequency of rotating machinery obviously changes and therefore, the vibration signal contains a considerable amount of fault information. In order to effectively extract the fault features from the vibration signals, the intrinsic time-scale decomposition (ITD) was used to highlight the fault characteristics of the vibration signal by extracting the optimum proper rotation (PR) component. Subsequently, the IMAAPE was utilized to realize the fault feature extraction from the PR component. In the IMAAPE algorithm, the coarse-graining procedures in the multi-scale analysis were improved and the stability of fault feature extraction was promoted. The coarse-grained time series of vibration signals at different time scales were firstly obtained, and the sensitivity of the amplitude-aware permutation entropy (AAPE) to signal amplitude and frequency was adopted to realize the fault feature extraction of coarse-grained time series. The multi-classifier based on the mRVM was established by the fault feature set to identify the fault type and analyze the fault severity of rotating machinery. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method, the experimental datasets of the rolling bearing and gearbox were used to verify the proposed fault diagnosis method respectively. The experimental results show that the proposed method can be applied to the fault type identification and the fault severity analysis of rotating machinery with high accuracy.

In order to discover the fault with roller bearing in time, a new fault diagnosis method based on Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and BP neural network is put forward in the paper. First, we get the fault signal through experiments. Then we use EMD to decompose the vibration signal into a series of single signals. We can extract main fault information from the single signals. The kurtosis coefficient of the single signals forms a feature vector which is used as the input data of the BP neural network. The trained BP neural network can be used for fault identification. Through analyzing, BP neural network can distinguish the fault into normal state, inner race fault, outer race fault. The results show that this method can gain very stable classification performance and good computational efficiency.

Due to the feature and the forms of motion of the gears, the vibration signal of the gear is mainly the frequency modulation, amplitude modulation, or hybrid modulation signal corresponding to the gear-mesh frequency and its double frequency signal. When faults arise on the gears, the number and shape of the modulation sideband will be changed. The structures and forms of the FM composition differ according to the type of faults. According to the above mentioned characteristic, this essay raises a method to disassemble the gear vibrate signal, points out the formulas to build up characteristic vector, on that basis, the essay raised a gear fault diagnosis method based on EMD and Hidden Markov Model (HMM), this method can identify the working condition of the normal gears, snaggletooth gears, and pitting gears.

In this article, fault diagnosis of bearing based on relevance vector machine classifier with improved binary bat algorithm is proposed, and the improved binary bat algorithm is used to select the appropriate features and kernel parameter of relevance vector machine. In the improved binary bat algorithm, the new velocities updating method of the bats is presented in order to ensure the decreasing of the probabilities of changing their position vectors’ elements when the position vectors’ elements of the bats are equal to the current best location’s element, and the increasing of the probabilities of changing their position vectors’ elements when the position vectors’ elements of the bats are unequal to the current best location’s element, which are helpful to strengthen the optimization ability of binary bat algorithm. The traditional relevance vector machine trained by the training samples with the unreduced features can be used to compare with the proposed improved binary bat algorithm–relevance vector machine method. The experimental results indicate that improved binary bat algorithm–relevance vector machine has a stronger fault diagnosis ability of bearing than the traditional relevance vector machine trained by the training samples with the unreduced features, and fault diagnosis of bearing based on improved binary bat algorithm–relevance vector machine is feasible.

The vibration signals of gearbox gear fault signatures are informative components that can be used for gearbox fault diagnosis and early fault detection. However, the vibration signals are normally non-linear and non-stationary, and they contain background noise caused by data acquisition systems and the interference of other machine elements. Especially in conditions with varying rotational speeds, the informative components are blended with complex, unwanted components inside the vibration signal. Thus, to use the informative components from a vibration signal for gearbox fault diagnosis, the noise needs to be properly distilled from the informational signal as much as possible before analysis. This paper proposes a novel gearbox fault diagnosis method based on an adaptive noise reducer–based Gaussian reference signal (ANR-GRS) technique that can significantly reduce noise and improve classification from a one-against-one, multiclass support vector machine (OAOMCSVM) for the fault types of a gearbox. The ANR-GRS processes the shaft rotation speed to access and remove noise components in the narrowbands between two consecutive sideband frequencies along the frequency spectrum of a vibration signal, enabling the removal of enormous noise components with minimal distortion to the informative signal. The optimal output signal from the ANR-GRS is then extracted into many signal feature vectors to generate a qualified classification dataset. Finally, the OAOMCSVM classifies the health states of an experimental gearbox using the dataset of extracted features. The signal processing and classification paths are generated using the experimental testbed. The results indicate that the proposed method is reliable for fault diagnosis in a varying rotational speed gearbox system.
