The determination of the antioxidant potential of lyophilized mushroom mycelia from 5 strains of the speciesPleurotus ostreatusandCoprinus comatus(obtained by submerged cultivation in batch system) was analyzed as ethanolic extracts by evaluating ABTS and the hydroxyl scavenging activity, FRAP method, the chelating capacity, the inhibition of human erythrocyte hemolysis, and the inhibition of xanthine oxidase activity. The main compounds present in all extracts were determined by HPLC chromatography. Overall, results demonstrated that the biologically active substances content is modulated by the extraction method used. The most beneficial extract, characterized by determining the EC50value, was that ofC. comatusM8102, followed byP. ostreatusPQMZ91109. Significant amount ofα-tocopherol (179.51 ± 1.51 mg/100 g extract) was determined as well as flavones such as rutin and apigenin. In theP. ostreatusPQMZ91109 extract, 4.8 ± 0.05 mg/100 g extract of tocopherol acetate known to play a significant role as an antioxidant in skin protection against oxidative stress generated by UV rays was determined. The various correlations (r2=0.7665–0.9426 for tocopherol content) assessed and the composition of extracts in fluidized bed from the mycelia of the tested species depicted a significant pharmacological potential as well as the possibility of usage in the development of new functional products.

The work is devoted to biological active substances in plants and their antioxidant activity. The study of biologically active substance, especially natural antioxidants is very important task. After several studies on the importance of antioxidants in biological systems by counteracting of oxidative stress that causes several human diseases such as atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, chronic inflammation, neurodegenerative disorders, and certain types of cancer have been conducted. There is a great interest of quantification of antioxidants and determination of antioxidant capacities of a number of specific food compounds. The main theme of work includes three subthemes. The first subtheme is the preparation of the extract; the second subtheme is the study of the composition of biologically active substances contained in the extract; and the third subtheme is the study of the properties of the extract. The primary objective of the investigation is to research properties of thick extracts of red currant leaves which were extracted with such organic solvents as acetone, hexane and ethyl alcohol. The tasks are qualitative and quantitative investigation of the thick extracts and determination of their inhibiting action on the process of free radicals formation in hydrophilic systems. For the qualitative analysis of thick extracts the method of optical spectroscopy is employed. Calculation method is used for the quantitative analysis. The most important stage of analyzing dense extracts is the verification of their antioxidant properties. This model of the oxidation reaction of adrenaline with air oxygen is used. The theoretical importance is application of the natural vegetable materials as the source of antioxidants for food stuffs. In comparison with synthetic materials they are less toxic. To sum it up, red currant leaves extracts contain a set of biological active substances (phenolic compounds, bioflavonoids, carotinoids, chlorophyll) capable of exerting an antioxidant effect, and they can be recommended in the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.Forcitation:Petrova S.N., Kantan A.D., Yargunova Yu.V. Silver birch, Betula pendula Roth, is one of the most common trees in Europe. Due to its content of many biologically active substances, it has long been used in medicine and cosmetics, unlike the rare black birch, Betula obscura Kotula. The aim of the study was therefore to compare the antioxidant properties of extracts from the inner and outer bark layers of both birch trees towards the L929 line treated with acetaldehyde. Based on the lactate dehydrogenase test and the MTT test, 10 and 25% concentrations of extracts were selected for the antioxidant evaluation. All extracts at tested concentrations reduced the production of hydrogen peroxide, superoxide anion radical, and 25% extract decreased malonic aldehyde formation in acetaldehyde-treated cells. The chemical composition of bark extracts was accessed by IR and HPLC-PDA methods and surprisingly, revealed a high content of betulin and lupeol in the inner bark extract of B. obscura. Furthermore, IR analysis revealed differences in the chemical composition of the outer bark between black and silver birch extracts, indicating that black birch may be a valuable source of numerous biologically active substances. Further experiments are required to evaluate their potential against neuroinflammation, cancer, viral infections, as well as their usefulness in cosmetology.

The work is devoted to the chemical studying of the composition of flavonoids of Populus balsamifera, the isolation of individual compounds, and the establishment of their structure. Balsamic poplar plants are a promising source of many biologically active substances, and in particular, flavonoids. From the buds of Populus balsamifera L. identified four flavonoids with antifungal, antimicrobial antioxidant properties and hepatoprotective activity. Data of flavonoids were isolated by extraction on the soxlet apparatus with 95% ethanol by triple thermal extraction at a temperature of 60 °C, followed by thickening on a rotary evaporator. For isolation from the buds of balsamic poplar, the resulting extract was chromatographed on a column with silica gel of the KSK brand 0.31-0.63 microns, using petroleum ether as eluents petroleum ether-ethyl acetate in various ratios and ethyl acetate. The structure of the isolated compounds was determined by IR, UV, NMR 13C, 1H spectroscopy. The biological activity of the isolated flavonoids was also studied.

An analytical method for the quantitative determination of antioxidant sodium metabisulphite in veterinary drugs has been proposed by spectrophotometric method. Based on the literature data, the optimal conditions of the analytical reaction were selected experimentally. The dependence of the value of the analytical signal on the temperature of the reaction medium, concentration of p-rosaniline and duration of the reaction was investigated to establish the optimal conditions of the analytical reaction and obtain a stable analytical signal. The stability of the colored analytical form in time was also checked and the linear dependence of the value of the analytical signal on the concentration of sodium metabisulphite was investigated. The analytical reaction at room temperature is optimal. The maximum analaytical signal is achieved by carrying out the analytical reaction for 10 minutes and then practically does not change for an hour. To achieve the maximum analytical signal, it is necessary to use a 20-fold excess of dye relative to sodium metabisulphite. The analytical signal remains stable only for the first hour, then gradually begins to decrease. Metrological characteristics of the method of determination of metabisulphite in veterinary drugs are calculated, the limits of spectrophotometric determination are 0.33 – 2.50 μg/ml. The correctness of the developed method was checked on model solutions by the method of "introduced-found" method of comparison in the presence of various biologically active substances that are part of drugs together with sodium metabisulphite. The content of sodium metabisulphite in veterinary drugs of domestic and foreign production at different intervals of their storage time was established. It is shown that the content of sodium metabisulphite in drugs decreases during their storage time, until complete disappearance, which directly affects the content of the active substance, because in the absence of antioxidant oxidative processes with biologically active substances begin to take place.

The prevalence of psoriasis has accentuated the high relevance of searching new approaches towards its treatments. This article describes the connection between the development of the clinical picture and lipid peroxidation, and studies the expediency of using drugs with antioxidant properties as a component of the treatment. The products of lipid peroxidation regulate cell proliferation and permeability of cell membranes, thus the function and structure of the skin is directly dependent on the level of lipids and phospholipids. Patients with either mild or severe psoriasis have been found out to demonstrate some changes in the blood serum: increased cholesterol, triglycerides and free fatty acids, as well as a change in the ratio of the fractional content of phospholipids in erythrocyte membranes. Taking into account the above mentioned factors of psoriasis, we can suggest that it would be reasonable to include antioxidants into the integrated therapy. Antioxidants are the group of biologically active substances that possess an ability to interact with various reactogenic oxidants, reactive oxygen species and other free radicals that leads to their full or partial inactivation. During this study resveratrol was added to standard psoriasis therapy. The scope of laboratory research included: diagnosis of changes in the blood biochemical analysis taken on an empty stomach in the morning to investigate the content of total protein, albumin, bilirubin, low and high density lipids, phospholipids, cholesterol, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase. It has been found out the reduction of symptom in the patients who received complex therapy modified with resveratrol was more marked than in patients who received standard therapy only. A more intensive decrease in infiltration, erythema, desquamation, and itching has been clinically observed as well.
