Radiotherapy in NPC patients has side effects on the dentition, which affects quality of life dramatically. This case report presents multidisciplinary dental treatment approach in a 17-year-old male patient with a history of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), which was treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The adolescent patient applied to dental hospital 4 years after the radiotherapy with aesthetic and functional problems on dentition affecting psychological, social, and physical aspects of his life. The dentition of the patient demonstrated the severe destruction as a devastating side effect of radiotherapy. With a successful multidisciplinary approach, our patient’s aesthetics, function, and self-confidence were obtained. Well-established procedures, which include preventative care and maintenance, can reduce the duration and expenses of the treatment and help in challenging the life-long complications of radiotherapy.

Ulcers in lower extremity are generally caused by venous insufficiency, arterial insufficiency, and diabetic neuropathy. Inflammatory ulcers are also difficult to diagnose because of underlying pathophysiology rests on inflammation and immunologic phenomena. Definitive diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment approach are needed to manage lower extremity ulcers. These ulcers may hamper the quality of life of patient. Here we reported a new case of post fracture of shaft of right tibia bone, presented with painful, hypertrophied, irregular shaped ulcer on anterior aspect of tibia gradually developing since 3 months. A male patient of 45 years old consulted to OPD with above complaint that was unable to bear weight on the effected leg (right limb). This case was managed with a local application of Thumari Gel and ulcers were almost healed within 6 weeks of wound care along with internal use of Ayurveda medicines. This case concluded that regular local application of Thumari Gel helpful in healing of chronic ulcer.

Orchiectomy is the standard of care for many testicular conditions. Testicular prosthesis placement (TPP) can mitigate psychosocial burden, restore self-image, and improve quality of life for patients requiring orchiectomy. Limited data exist regarding patient attitudes and counseling on TPP in the United States. The objective of this study was to characterize patient experiences after TPP, rationale for pursuing/declining TPP, and satisfaction levels. Patients with a history of urologic conditions warranting orchiectomy were identified and sent an anonymous survey addressing demographics, pre/post counseling, attitudes toward TPP, satisfaction rates, and postoperative complications. Sixteen percent (76/480) of patients completed the survey. Of these, 50.8% (32/63) undergoing orchiectomy were counseled by their surgeon about TPP, and 22.2% (14/63) received a prosthesis. The most common reasons for declining TPP included lack of concern for cosmetic appearance and lack of counseling. Leading reasons for pursuing TPP included improving self-confidence and cosmetic appearance. Although 71% (10/14) of patients were satisfied with TPP, they did highlight areas for improvement. Twenty percent (2/10) felt their implant was too high, 60% (6/10) felt their implant was too firm, 10% (1/10) endorsed discomfort during sex, and 30% (3/10) felt that TPP did not match their size expectations. Despite these findings, 71% (10/14) reported that they would have TPP again and 79% (11/14) would recommend TPP to others. TPP improves body image and quality of life following orchiectomy. Provider counseling plays an important role in influencing a patient’s decision to undergo TPP. Areas of improvement include implant positioning and more effective replication of testicular consistency.

Prader–Willi syndrome described in 1956 has a genetic origin, affecting both genders, varying in presence and intensity from individual to individual. A precocious diagnosis, before the manifestation of symptoms, has brought some improvement in the quality of life of the carriers in the last years. The objective of this case report was to describe the treatment realized in a 3-year-old boy who presented grade II obesity, difficulty of locomotion, hypotonia, and history of cardiopathy. A dental treatment under general anesthesia was defined, allowing an oral adequation in a single section, in which it was planned the extraction of the element 74 and atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) technique in the other teeth. The precocious intervention in this 3-year-old patient by the therapy realized with ART under general anesthesia was done with success, avoiding unnecessary extractions, preserving dental elements, and maintaining the oral cavity in adequate function.

<b><i>Background/Aims:</i></b> Previous research has provided information about how school-aged children perceive their own stuttering; however, less is known about how stuttering is perceived by their parents. The ways that parents view their children’s stuttering could influence how the children themselves react to it. This study proceeds to assess how parents’ perceptions of the impact of stuttering relate to the perceptions of children. <b><i>Method:</i></b> Participants were 50 children who stutter aged 7–12 years (mean = 9.10; SD = 1.7) and their parents, recruited from different cities in Portugal. The European Portuguese version of the Overall Assessment of the Speaker’s Experience of Stuttering was administered to the children, and an adapted version of the tool was administered to their parents. <b><i>Results:</i></b> Both parents and children showed generally similar overall impact ratings, typically falling in the mild and moderate ranges. Differences were observed in families with a history of stuttering: for those families, a comparison of parents’ and children’s scores revealed, in some domains, that parents perceived the impact of stuttering to be greater than the children did, especially related with children’s reactions to stuttering and their quality of life. <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> Knowledge about how parents perceive the impact of stuttering on their children is important because families can play a key role in helping children cope with stuttering. These findings highlight the benefits of using an individualized treatment approach for each child that focuses on their perceptions, as well as on those of the parents, in order to address negative attitudes toward children’s stuttering.

Aim To audit the quality of external referral communications sent to the Department of Sedation at Newcastle Dental Hospital. Methods A retrospective analysis was undertaken of a sample of 226 consecutive external referrals received by the sedation department of Newcastle Dental Hospital during May-July 2008. A data-collection form was used to record information provided in referrals relevant to the practice of sedation and the set standard was based on the recommendations of the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN). Results Of the 226 referrals sampled, the majority (222; 98.2%) were from general dental practitioners. Seventy-six per cent were by letter and 24% by pro forma. Although of particular relevance to sedation referrals, a medical history was provided in only 59.0% of referrals and details of previous dental treatment in only 27.5%. The use of a pro forma significantly increased the provision of information compared to a letter in the following areas: patient's telephone number, patient's medication, doctor's name and doctor's address. Significantly less information was provided in the pro forma compared to the letters concerning the name of the referring practitioner and referring practitioner's telephone number. No difference was found between letter and pro forma referrals for medical history, treatment already attempted and reason for referral. Conclusions The findings indicate a need to improve the amount of information provided in referrals to the sedation department of Newcastle Dental Hospital in order to ensure appropriate allocation to sedation services. The quality of referrals may be improved by the distribution of referral guidelines, the use of electronic referral templates or changes to the current pro forma.

Prosthodontic rehabilitation can be accomplished with fixed, overdenture, complete, or implant-retained prostheses. Dental treatment overcomes the patient’s functional, psychological, esthetic and phonation problems. Remaining healthy teeth may allow the dentist to fabrícate a removable partial overdenture, fixed partial prosthesis or implant - supported prosthesis. The retention of a number of abutments helps maintain a positive ridge form with greater height and volume of the alveolar bone, improving masticatory performance, as well as providing a more stable prostheses. Dental patients who have medical problems need many treatment procedures. Multidisciplinary treatment planning is invaluable for patient’s dental health. Progeria is a rare genetic condition where symptoms resembling aspects of aging are manifested at an early age. characteristic clinical findings of Progeria disease include abnormalities of the skin and hair in conjunction with char-acteristic facial features and skeletal abnormalities. The characteristic facies show protruding ears, beaked nose, thin lips with centrofacial cyanosis, prominent eyes, frontal and parietal bossing with pseudohydrocephaly, midface hypoplasia with micrognathia and large anterior fontanel. The other reported anomalies are dystrophic nails, hypertrophic scars and hypoplastic nipples. The findings that are nearly interested in dentistry are delayed dentition, anodontia, hypodontia, or crowding of teeth. This article presents the multidisciplinary dental treatment planning includes surgical, endodontic and prosthetic treatment of a patient with a history of progeria. In this case complete-arch fixed prostheses in both maxilla and mandible, supported by a combination of im-plants and teeth are reported.

ABSTRACTFacial esthetics, including oral esthetics, can severely affect children's quality-of-life, causing physical, social and psychological impairment. Children and adolescents with esthetic-related dental malformations are potential targets for bullies. This study was aimed to present and discuss patients who suffered from bullying at school and family environment due to esthetic-related teeth anomalies. Providing an adequate esthetic dental treatment is an important step in their rehabilitation when the lack of esthetic is the main source of bullying. After dental treatment, we noted significant improvement in self-esteem, self-confidence, socialization and academic performance of all patients and improvement in parental satisfaction regarding the appearance of their children. It is imperative that both family and school care providers be constantly alert about bullying in order to prevent or interrupt aggressive and discriminatory practices against children and adolescents. Clearly, dental anomalies may be a motive for bullying.

A 53-year-old woman presented with a 25-year history of acne excoriée and prurigo excoriée. Her symptoms began in 1988 coinciding with her husband’s death from a brain tumour when she was 27. The pruritus affected her quality of life and disturbed her sleep. She had scarring on her face and body resulting from persistent scratching. The pruritus proved refractory to treatment despite a multi-modal treatment approach including multiple topicals, phototherapy and systemic agents such as isotretinoin, antibiotics, anxiolytic agents and neuromodulators. She was extremely frustrated that various treatments had been ineffective at controlling the itch-scratch cycle. She was commenced on low dose naltrexone (LDN), 3 mg nocte, and she became itch free within a few weeks. She reports that the LDN has had a beneficial impact on her quality of life.

Total laryngectomy, as extremely mutilating surgical intervention, results in drastic changes of the style and quality of life. The trauma of laryngectomy is huge, both to patients and their environment. The most pronounced changes of the quality of life of laryngectomized patients are seen at marital, familial, professional, business and communication aspects. Malignant disease and total laryngectomy significantly reduce working capacity, producing, besides professional, the economical difficulties. Psychological implications associated with total laryngectomy are the most severe, comprehensive ones and require multidisciplinary approach. The study analyzes the frequency and distribution of factors affecting the quality of life of laryngectomized patients (sex, age, psychic status, probable history of chronic diseases, impairment of hearing and social-family environment of patients). Significant improvement of the quality of life of laryngectomized patients is achieved by systemic, planned and multidisciplinary rehabilitation of patients as well as their immediate environment. The need for the association of laryngectomized patients is stressed.

Background: Developmental dental anomalies are seen as abnormalities in tooth size, shape, position, and structure due to multiple reasons during various stages of tooth development. These anomalies can create disturbances in dental arch lengths and occlusions. Hence, it is very important to treat, recognise and perform proper treatment. The purpose of this study was to find out the prevalence and distribution of selected developmental anomalies in shape, size and position of teeth in the Saudi population of Taif Region.Design and Methods: The study was based on the clinical examination of 2481 adults who are Saudi nationals came for dental treatment from September 2019 to February 2020, at Taif University Dental Hospital, Saudi Arabia. These patients were examined clinically for developmental dental anomalies affecting shape, size and position. Results: We found that a total of 512 individuals (20.63%) had developmental anomalies and out of which 386 persons (15.56%) had at least one developmental dental anomaly. The frequency and distribution of anomalies of shape and size, number and position were 46.8%, 26.9% and 42.9% respectively. In the present study, 15.56% individuals exhibited at least one anomaly, 8.54% subjects had more than one anomalies and 79.36%.did not any developmental anomaly. On comparison, statistical significant results were seen between different groups of anomalies. Conclusions: The present study had varying results for the prevalence rate of selected dental anomalies. This variation in results might be due racial differences or discrepancy in sample size or/and diagnostic or inclusion criteria. Treatment of developmental anomalies necessitates a multidisciplinary approach and mostly may comprise of orthodontic correction or prosthetic replacement.
