Consideration in this paper is the Cauchy problem of a generalized hyperelastic-rod wave equation. We first derive a wave-breaking mechanism for strong solutions, which occurs in finite time for certain initial profiles. In addition, we determine the existence of some new peaked solitary wave solutions.

The dissipative periodic 2-component Degasperis-Procesi system is investigated. A local well-posedness for the system in Besov space is established by using the Littlewood-Paley theory and a priori estimates for the solutions of transport equation. The wave-breaking criterions for strong solutions to the system with certain initial data are derived.

AbstractWe discuss concepts and review results about the Cauchy problem for the Fornberg–Whitham equation, which has also been called Burgers–Poisson equation in the literature. Our focus is on a comparison of various strong and weak solution concepts as well as on blow-up of strong solutions in the form of wave breaking. Along the way we add aspects regarding semiboundedness at blow-up, from semigroups of nonlinear operators to the Cauchy problem, and about continuous traveling waves as weak solutions.

In this paper, we study solitary wave solutions of the Cauchy problem for Half-wave-Schrödinger equation in the plane. First, we show the existence and the orbital stability of the ground states. Second, we prove that given any speed [Formula: see text], traveling wave solutions exist and converge to the zero wave as the velocity tends to [Formula: see text]. Finally, we solve the Cauchy problem for initial data in [Formula: see text], with [Formula: see text]. The critical case [Formula: see text] still stands as an interesting open problem.

By using the theory of planar dynamical systems to a coupled nonlinear wave equation, the existence of bell-shaped solitary wave solutions, kink-shaped solitary wave solutions, and periodic wave solutions is obtained. Under the different parametric values, various sufficient conditions to guarantee the existence of the above solutions are given. With the help of three different undetermined coefficient methods, we investigated the new exact explicit expression of all three bell-shaped solitary wave solutions and one kink solitary wave solutions with nonzero asymptotic value for a coupled nonlinear wave equation. The solutions cannot be deduced from the former references.

We consider the Cauchy problem for incompressible hydrodynamic flow of nematic liquid crystals in three dimensions. We prove the global existence and uniqueness of the strong solutions with nonnegative p0 and small initial data.
