Cherubism is a rare familial multilocular cystic lesion of the jaws. The condition clinically appears as a bilateral symmetric swelling of the cheeks in children and is the primary reason for referral. It is a rare lesion of the jaws that has a dominant pattern of inheritance. We report two cases of cherubism, that of a boy and his mother suggestive of a strong familial incidence. A variety of lesions of the jaw mimic this condition and hence the differential diagnosis has been emphasised.

Background and Aims Simple liver cyst (SHC) is a benign condition with no malignant potential. They are typically discovered incidentally due to the increased use of abdominal imaging, but some patients may present with abdominal pain. A radiologist’s differential diagnosis in cases of SHC will often include “rule out biliary cystadenoma.” Under these circumstances, patients and surgeons are more likely to pursue surgical options even in asymptomatic cases. The aim of this study is to conduct a retrospective analysis of presentation, radiologic reporting, management plan, and histopathology of patients referred to a tertiary hospital in order to determine the correlation between radiology and histology. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical, radiological, and histopathological data of 20 patients operated for a diagnosis of a cystic lesion in the liver. Result The CT/MRI of 6 (30%) patients was reported as a biliary cystadenoma, 13 (65%) were reported as a simple hepatic cyst and 1 patient (5%) had hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with the additional diagnosis of multiple hepatic cysts. The lesion reported as HCC on the scan was separate from the cystic lesions. The modality of imaging for these cysts was evenly split, 50% of patients had a CT scan, and 50% had an MRI performed. All imaging studies were interpreted by an attending radiologist and most of them were discussed in multidisciplinary meetings. Nineteen patients (95%) had an intraoperative diagnosis of a simple liver cyst based on its visual appearance and clear fluid within the cyst. These patients underwent cyst wall fenestration and de-roofing with the cyst wall sent for histopathology. One patient (5%) with HCC underwent a non-anatomical liver resection. Histopathology was conclusive for a benign hepatic cystic lesion from the cyst wall biopsy. All 20 patients in this study underwent surgery, either due to symptoms or due to radiologic diagnosis of BCA. Four of the 20 cases (20%) were asymptomatic and out of these four cases, 3 (75%) were diagnosed as cystadenoma on the preoperative imaging studies. All 19 cases were diagnosed as a simple liver cyst on pathology. Conclusion In summary, there is a growing trend of “ruling-out the diagnosis of biliary cystadenoma” in patients who present with liver cysts. Patients are appropriately more anxious after this preoperative diagnosis and the treating surgeons have medico-legal concerns regarding conservative management in asymptomatic patients diagnosed as BCA. This single center experience draws attention to the radiology criteria utilized for diagnosing a biliary cystadenoma and suggests that it is time to revisit the imaging interpretation and differential diagnosis.

Adiscal cyst is a rare lesion that causes low back pain and radiculopathy of the lower extremities. There are several reports of discal cysts occurring after surgery, but data are limited on their occurrence after percutaneous endoscopic discectomy (PED). A21-year-old man with disc herniation at the L4-L5 disc level underwent PED via a transforaminal approach. The immediate postoperative course was uneventful and his symptoms were relieved. Six weeks after surgery, low back pain and mild pain in the left thigh recurred. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a cystic lesion adjacent to the left side of the L4-L5 intervertebral disc. Conservative treatment was ineffective, so we reoperated using PED with the same approach. Pain improved and MRI revealed disappearance of the cystic lesion. When symptoms relapse after PED, it is necessary to consider the occurrence of a cyst. Endoscopic Minimally Invasive Surgery

Endotracheal metastasis, a critical complication of primary lung cancer, is an extremely rare lesion. A 73-year-old woman who had previously received treatment for lung cancer presented to our emergency department with dyspnea. A chest computed tomography and nasopharyngolaryngoscopy showed an endotracheal mass below the epiglottis, obstructing the trachea almost completely. The patient had an emergency tracheostomy, and then the mass was removed via median laryngotomy. This lesion was proven to be a recurrent metastasis of lung cancer. Clinicians should recognize endotracheal metastasis as an important differential diagnosis in cancer patients presenting with respiratory symptoms.

Abstract. Groundwater is utilized intensively as a source of fresh water for irrigation and human needs. Hence, it is necessary to monitor groundwater storage for water security of the region in the future. The present study aims to evaluate the groundwater resource over the Krishna basin in South India. The basin comprises of 210 major and medium irrigation projects, which makes it important to evaluate the groundwater balance for a sustainable groundwater draft. This study evaluates the trend in groundwater anomaly derived from GRACE mascon product. Results indicate that the Krishna basin is subjected to a strong decline in groundwater at a rate of 0.34cm per year. Further, the study explores the seasonality of precipitation and its effect on groundwater by adopting an entropy-based approach. Results indicate the combined effect of delay in precipitation to attain peak and reduced duration of the wet season as a primary reason for the decline in the groundwater storage. The result shows that the reduction in groundwater storage affects the evapotranspiration over the region.

The use of the contrast agent SonoVue has been allowed in Russia since June 2014. Since then, russian experts have been accumulating their own experience in the contrast agent application for various diseases. The analysis of the obtained data showed that, besides the typical characteristics of the lesions enhancement, described in the literature, there can be atypical cases due to various causes (longterm course of the disease, co-morbidity). We present a clinical case of pancreas cystic lesion in female patient, that was misunderstood as a cystic tumor preoperatively. Considering the epithelial lining nature, absence of the accurate signs of the presence of an ovarian-like stroma, and also the significant secondary changes in the cystic wall such as hyalinosis, cholesterol deposits and macrophage accumulations, the lesion was interpreted as a long-standing pancreatic retention cyst with secondary changes by a morphological study. The features of the enhancement patterns of this lesion can be explained by the presence of significant secondary changes in the wall of cyst, that was first diagnosed in this patient 10 years ago.

Benign fibrous histiocytoma is a rare benign primary skeletal tumor that occurs frequently in the long bones and the pelvis. The calcaneus is an unusual location for benign fibrous histiocytoma. We did not identify any case of benign fibrous histiocytoma involving the calcaneus in the relevant literature. We describe a 22-year-old male patient with benign fibrous histiocytoma involving the calcaneus treated with curettage and bone grafting. At the final follow-up visit, 1 year after surgery, the patient was free of pain and walking unaided. We discuss the differential diagnosis of cystic lesions of the calcaneus. Calcifying aponeurotic fibroma (CAF) is a rare lesion that can affect the feet and should be considered as a differential diagnosis of plantar tumors. The treatment is given by surgical resection, and the definitive diagnosis is confirmed by histopathological analysis. This case report shows the presentation and treatment of a 17-year-old patient with CAF and emphasizes the importance of proper imaging planning to reduce risks and recurrence. Level of Evidence V; Therapeutic Studies; Expert Opinion.
