Epidermoid cysts are rarely detected malformations in the oral cavity. Their development sites are the sublingual, submaxillary, and submandibular spaces. In this paper, we report a three-month-old infant who was admitted to our hospital due upper lip swelling. Magnetic resonance imaging showed that she had a two-centimeter cystic lesion and fusion defects of orbicularis oris muscle. The cyst was surgically removed and histopathological diagnosis was “epidermoid cyst.” In recent literature, we could not find reports related to orbicularis oris muscle fusion defects because of epidermoid cyst.

The paper aims to describe the articulatory traits of the Baraba-Tatar phoneme o /ʊ̇/ by the somatic methods. The method used is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Eighteen Barabian tomograms comprising o-type articulation have been described and analyzed according to the technique adopted in the V. M. Nadelyayev’s Laboratory of Experimental-Phonetic Researches (Institute of Philology SB RAS). The text provides only general observations and conclusions, with a full description of all tomograms given in three tables. The experimentalphonetic analysis of the Baraba-Tatar tomograms of the vowel o allowed the author to draw several conclusions. There is a variability of the o-type tunings in Barabian, the most typical being the central-back narrow labialized ejective realization. Though it is very narrow and is phonetically transcribed as /ʊ̇/, it is acoustically perceived as o. While producing the sound o, the oral and pharyngeal cavities become very small, producing the effect of tension. Additional narrowing occurs between the soft palate and the tongue back as well as between the upper teeth and the lower lip, thus preventing the airflow from free release. The lip position is also unusual: instead of protruding forward, the upper lip moves back, tightly covering the upper teeth to produce an interesting acoustic effect. To sum up, further investigation of all vocal system units of Baraba-Tatar is needed to draw ultimate conclusions about the typological belonging of the language under consideration.

Abstract Objectives We aimed to assess the performance of ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) signs for antenatal detection of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) disorders in women with placenta previa (placental edge ≤2 cm from the internal uterine orifice, ≥260/7 weeks’ gestation) with and without a history of previous Caesarean section. Methods Single center prospective observational study. US suspicion of PAS was raised in the presence of obliteration of the hypoechoic space between uterus and placenta, interruption of the hyperechoic uterine-bladder interface and/or turbulent placental lacunae on color Doppler. All MRI studies were blindly evaluated by a single operator. PAS was defined as clinically significant when histopathological diagnosis was associated with at least one of: intrauterine balloon placement, compressive uterine sutures, peripartum hysterectomy, uterine or hypogastric artery ligature, uterine artery embolization. Results A total of 39 women were included: 7/39 had clinically significant PAS. There were 6/18 cases of PAS with anterior placenta: hypoechoic space interruption and placental lacunae were the most sensitive sonographic signs (83%), while abnormal hyperechoic interface was the most specific (83%). On MRI, focal myometrial interruption and T2 intraplacental dark bands showed the best sensitivity (83%), bladder tenting had the best specificity (100%). 1/21 women with posterior placenta had PAS. There was substantial agreement between US and MRI in patients with anterior placenta (κ=0.78). Conclusions US and MRI agreement in antenatal diagnosis of clinically significant PAS was maximal in high-risk women. Placental lacunae on ultrasound scan and T2 intraplacental hypointense bands on MRI should trigger the suspicion of PAS.

ABSTRACTLipomatous meningiomas are extremely rare subtypes of benign meningiomas and are classified as metaplastic meningioma in the World Health Organization classification. We present a 77-year-old man presented with the history of a gradually intensifying headache for the last 3 months. A right frontoparietal mass was detected on his cranial magnetic resonance imaging. The patient was operated on via a right frontoparietal craniotomy, and histopathological diagnosis was lipomatous meningioma. Distinctive characteristics of lipomatous meningiomas were discussed with special emphasis to importance of immunohistochemical examinations, particularly for its differentiation from the tumors showing similar histology though having more aggressive character.

A 21-kg, seven-year-old, male, mixed-breed Labrador retriever was admitted for incoordination and a head tilt of approximately three months' duration. Ataxia was noted of the trunk and limbs, and there was a head tilt to the right side. Conscious proprioceptive deficits were present in the left thoracic and pelvic limbs (i.e., hemiparesis). These abnormalities were consistent with paradoxical vestibular syndrome and a lesion involving the caudal cerebellar peduncle. A mass lesion consisting primarily of fluid was present on magnetic resonance imaging and at craniectomy. Histopathological diagnosis was a cystic meningioma. Based upon previous reports and experience, the location of this tumor was unusual.

Objective A 17-year-old previously unreported patient with Pai syndrome is described. The boy had median cleft of upper lip, a polypoid skin mass over the columella, a minimal cleft of the upper central incisors, frontal alopecia of the anterior hairline, and bifid nose. Magnetic resonance imaging showed pericallosal lipoma. No mental retardation was present, and a chromosomal study showed normal male 46, XY karyotype.
