This paper proposes an improved sequential method for underwater multiple objects tracks initiation in clutter, estimating the initial position for the trajectory. The underwater environment is complex and changeable, and the sonar data are not very ideal. When the detection distance is far, the error of measured data is also great. Besides that, the clutter has a grave effect on the tracks initiation. So it is hard to initialize a track and estimate the initial position. The new tracks initiation is that when at least six of ten points meet the requirements, then we determine that there is a new track and the initial states of the parameters are estimated by the linear least square method. Compared to the conventional tracks initiation methods, our method not only considers the kinematics information of targets, but also regards the error of the sonar sensors as an important element. Computer simulations confirm that the performance of our method is very nice.

To measure the depth of fire-damaged concrete by ultrasonic method, it was traditionally assumed that the concrete of the fire-damaged structural member could be simply classified into damaged layer and undamaged layer. Based on it, the damage depth can be calculated with a series of single-sided ultrasonic measured data. This method is simple and convenient but less accurate in the practical application. To improve the algorithm, hyperbola curves are adopted to simulate the varying of damage with depth in this paper. And parabolic curves are adopted to simulate the traces of ultrasonic wave in different measured distances. Therefore, the minimum propagation time can be obtained under different damage conditions. Through comparing the calculating results and measured data in different measured distances, the most likely damaged trend can be determined with least square method. At the end of this paper, examples are demonstrated to prove this algorithm feasible and more accurate than the traditional one.

AbstractChemical shifts of SKα, CrKβ1,3 and SnLβ2 were precisely measured with a two-crystal X-ray spectrometer (Toshiba AFV 701). Sulfur in the coke for iron smelting takes two oxidation states, i.e., S2− and S6+. Quantitative analyses of S2− and S6+ were performed by precisely measuring the profile of SKα and fitting the standard S2− of S6+ curve to the observed SKα profile with the non-linear least square method. Chemical shifts of CrKβ1,3 and SnLβ2 were utilized for the determinations of Cr6+, Cr3+, Sn4+ and Sn2+ in electro-plating solutions. Intensity ratio of IA to Ig was measured, where B means the point which showed an intensity independent of oxidation states. A means the point which showed the most dependent. Linear relations were found between intensity ratio IA/IB and Cr3+/Cr or Sn2+/Sn.

The Litopenaeus schmitti and Farfantepenaeus paulensis shrimp captured in estuaries are marketed as live bait for recreational fishing. As an alternative to shrimp extractive activities, the authors evaluated the rearing of these species in a recirculation culture system. For each species, the grow-out study was carried out in two 120-day production cycles, using 3,300 juveniles of an average length of 25 mm and weight of 0.9 grams in each, distributed in 12 tanks of 1,500 liters and 1.32 m2, at a population density of 208.3 shrimp per m2. The growth parameters were obtained using the von Bertalanffy model based on the length (mm) and age (weeks) data. The adjustments were made in the R environment of the non-linear least-square method. The von Bertalanffy growth model showed a proper fit, with determination coefficients of 0.900 for L. schmitti and 0.841 for F. paulensis. The values of L∞ and k were 172.66 and 0.027 mm for L. schmitti and 110.13 mm and 0.050 for F. paulensis, respectively. In the current study, L. schmitti showed negative allometric growth (p=4,314x10-18) and F. paulensis isometric growth (p=0.267). The growth of shrimp obtained in the proposed recirculation system can supply live bait for the sport fishing market.

In this paper, a novel calibration method is developed to improve the measurement accuracy of 3-DOF measurement system. The squareness error between three sensors and misalignment error with respect to reference coordinate of machine tool are calibration parameters. To estimate these parameters, reference ball is used and moved in the measuring ranges of 3-DOF measurement system. The relation between calibration parameters, position of reference ball, measured data of sensors are defined using geometric constraint and estimated using least square method. Finally, simulation is done to check the feasibility of developed calibration method. The result of simulation revealed the validation of developed method.

Density functional theory was used to calculate the electronic structure of 20 selected 1,4-benzodiazepine derivatives. Certain parameters were extracted from the theoretical calculations, including the proton affinity of N1, the total energy, HOMO and LUMO energies, the total positive atomic charge, dipole moment and molecular volume. These parameters were used for the correlation with the minimum effective dose acting on human. The correlation was performed by applying linear least square method. Seven parameters were found to afford good fit. Clorazepate, one of the benzodiazepines, was studied extensively, it contains a carboxylate group, which can act as an ordinary molecule or zwitterions, where the ionisable proton migrates to N1. The energy gap between the two forms was found to be strongly dependent on the solvent dielectric constant.

The Rational Function Model (RFM) is a non-linear model. Usually, the RFM-based satellite image block adjustment uses the Taylor series to expand error equations, and then solves the linear model. Theoretically, linearization of a non-linear model affects the accuracy and reliability of the adjustment result. This paper presents linear and non-linear methods for solving the RFM-based block adjustment, and takes ZiYuan3 (ZY-3) satellite imagery block adjustment as an example, using same check points to assess the accuracy of the two methods. In this paper, a non-linear least square method is used for solving the RFM-based block adjustment, which expands a solution to the block adjustment.
