Single crystals of BGHB were grown by slow evaporation technique. The unit cell dimensions and space group of the grown crystals were confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The modes of vibration of the molecules and the presence of functional groups were identified using FTIR technique. The microhardness study shows that the Vickers hardness number of the crystal increases with the increase in applied load. The optical properties of the crystals were determined using UV-Visible spectroscopy. The thermal properties of the grown crystal were also determined. The refractive index was determined as 1.396 using Brewster’s angle method. The emission of green light on passing the Nd: YAG laser light confirmed the second harmonic generation property of the crystals and the SHG efficiency of the crystals was found to be higher than that of KDP. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss measurements were carried out for different temperatures and frequencies. The ac conductivity study of the crystals was also discussed. The photoconductivity studies confirm that the grown crystal has negative photoconductivity nature. The etching studies were carried out to study the formation of etch pits.

AbstractAn inorganic coordination complex of single crystal containing sodium and aluminum (SA) was grown at room temperature by slow evaporation technique. The crystal was characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR, UV-Vis, SHG, SEM, EDX and TG/DTA analyses. The size of the grown crystal was around 17 mm × 15 mm × 5 mm. Both optical and SEM photographs confirmed that the crystal is transparent with smooth surface. The XRD data showed that the crystal belongs to the BCC crystal structure. The crystal shows excellent transparency in the entire region of visible light (cut-off value is 339 cm−1). The dielectric constant as well as dielectric loss of the sample was calculated by varying frequencies at different temperatures and the presence of low dielectric loss proved that this crystal can be used for the NLO application.

L-asparagine L-tartrate (LAT), an organic compound has been synthesized from aqueous solution and bulk single crystal has been grown by slow evaporation technique. Powder X-ray diffraction studies confirmed the monoclinic structure of the grown LAT crystal. The presence of functional groups of the grown crystal was identified by FTIR studies. Linear optical property of the grown crystal was studied by UV-Vis spectral analysis. Microhardness studies reveal that the crystal possesses relatively higher hardness compared to other organic nonlinear optical crystals. Dielectric response of the L-asparagine L-tartrate crystal was analyzed for different frequencies at various temperatures. Kurtz-Perry powder second harmonic generation test confirmed the nonlinear optical properties of the as-grown LAT crystal.

2-Amino-4,6-dimethylpyrimidinium p-hydroxybenzoate (ADPHB), a novel organic material, was synthesized, and crystals were grown by slow evaporation solution growth method. The cell parameters and crystalline perfection of the grown crystal were studied by single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analyses. The presence of various functional groups of the grown crystal was confirmed using Fourier Transform infrared spectral analysis. UV-Visible spectrum shows that ADPHB crystals have high transmittance in the range 305–900 nm. The refractive index and transient photoluminescence properties of the grown crystal were analyzed. The laser induced surface damage threshold, optical birefringence, and second harmonic generation efficiency of the grown crystal were studied.

In this paper, an organic 4-nitroaniline picrate (4NP) single crystal was grown by solution growth method. Single crystal X-ray diffraction study revealed that grown crystal belongs to orthorhombic system with Pbcn space group. The solid state constants such as plasma energy, Penn gap, Fermi energy and polarizability of 4NP crystal were determined theoretically. The functional groups of the grown crystals were confirmed qualitatively from FTIR spectral analysis. The thermal decomposition and melting point of the crystal were determined from thermogravimetric analysis. The optical absorption and cut-off wavelength of the crystal were determined from UV-visible study. The second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the grown crystal was measured by Kurtz–Perry SHG test using Nd : YAG laser. The laser damage threshold value of the grown crystal was estimated by multi-shot method using 1064 nm laser.

Single crystal of organic material Methyl N- phenylsuccinamate (MPS) has been grown by the slow evaporation technique using methanol as a solvent. The crystal belongs to orthorhombic system with non centrosymmetric space group Pna21. Optical transmittance and second harmonic generation efficiency of the grown crystals have been studied by UV-vis-NIR spectrum and Kurtz powder technique respectively. The transmittance of MPS crystal has been used to calculate the refractive index (n), the extinction coefficient (k) and reflectance (R). The laser induced surface damage threshold for the grown crystal has been measured using Nd:YAG laser. The mechanical behaviour of the MPS crystal has also been analyzed.

AbstractL-cysteine hydrogen fluoride (LCHF) single crystals were grown from aqueous solution. Single crystal X-ray diffraction, FT-IR, UV-Vis-NIR, and TG-DTA were used to test the grown crystals. The specimen dielectric and mechanical behaviors were also studied. Powder X-ray diffraction of the grown crystal was recorded and indexed. The optical properties of the LCHF crystal were determined using UV-Vis spectroscopy. It was found that the optical band gap of LCHF was 4.8 eV. The crystal functional groups were identified using FT-IR. Second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the LCHF was three times higher than that of KDP. The dielectric constant, dielectric loss and AC conductivity were measured at different frequencies and temperatures.

Single crystal of Thiourea Sodium Sulphate (TSS) was prepared by a slow evaporation technique. The optical absorption and absorption coefficient are studied by UV. Vis.-NIR The voids or defects of the TSS crystal were carried out by its surface morphology analysis by SEM. The NLO properties of shocked TSS single crystal were estimated by UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopic analysis. Finally the nonlinear optical property of TSS crystal was estimated by Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) and the suitability of present titled mono crystal against mechanical resistivity after the shock for non linear optics and for photonic application has been confirmed.


Nonlinear optical lithium sodium sulphate hexahydrate (LSS) crystal of 17 mm x 14 mm x 12 mm dimension was harvested by temperature reducing method. The single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction investigation studies reveal the crystal system and crystalline characters of grown LSS crystal. The FT-IR spectrum of LSS crystal was recorded to confirm its functional constituents present in the synthesized compound. Mechanical ability of the grown LSS crystal was studied by Vicker’s hardness method. The etching pattern was recorded to identify the growth feature of the grown crystal. The parameters of dielectric constant and dielectric loss were calculated for the grown crystal. Thermal analysis was carried out on the crystal by employing thermogravimetric method. The cutoff wavelength and optical transmittance character and second harmonic generation efficiency of the LSS crystal were done by UV-Visible and Kurtz-Perry studies respectively.

Manganese doped alpha-lithium iodate have been synthesized and single crystals have been grown for nonlinear optical applications. The grown crystal has been subjected to single crystal X-ray diffraction to confirm the structure. The crystalline perfection was assessed by high-resolution X- ray diffractometer (HRXRD). Second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency was found to be 71 times than that of KDP. The UV–Vis-NIR spectroscopic study revealed that the grown crystal has good optical transparency in the visible region clearly indicates that Mn doped α-LiIO3 crystals can be used as window material in optical instruments. Presence of dopant was confirmed by energy-dispersive spectrometry.

Abstract: Imidazolium hydrogen squarate (IHS) crystal has been grown by slow evaporation solution growth technique at room temperature. The lattice parameters of grown crystal were determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction data and compared with powder XRD. Single crystal XRD shows that the crystal crystallizes in monoclinic system with noncentrosymmetric space group Pc. The crystallinity of the grown crystal was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction analysis. FT-IR and FT-RAMAN analyses qualitatively confirm the various functional groups present in the grown crystal. The 1H and 13C NMR spectra were recorded to establish the molecular structure. Thermal properties of title crystal were studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The UV-Vis-NIR transmission spectrum was recorded to find the band width of optical transmittance window and the lower cutoff wavelength. The optical band gap value of the material is evaluated to be 5.6 eV. The second harmonic generation efficiency was calculated by the Kurtz and Perry powder method using a Q-switched mode locked Nd: YAG laser emitting 1064 nm laser as source. Finally, Z-scan technique was employed to determine the nonlinear refractive index, nonlinear absorption coefficient and third-order NLO susceptibility to find suitability of the grown crystal in photonics and optoelectronics applications.
