4Phytochemical studies on Viscum coloratum have resulted in the isolation of nineteen compounds. The structures of the isolated compounds were identified on the basis of 1D, 2D NMR and HR-ESI-Q-TOF-MS. Pachypodol () and ombuine (6) were characterized in the family Loranthaceae for the first time. 1,7-Bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1,4-heptadien-3-one (8) and 5-hydroxy-3,7,3’-trimethoxyfl avone-4’-O-β-D-glucoside (13) were two new natural compounds, which exhibited cytotoxic activities against four human tumour cell lines (HeLa, SGC-7901, MCF-7, and U251)

The lichen Roccella sinensis has not been studied chemically. This research described the isolation and elucidation of compounds isolated from the lichen Roccella sinensis collected in Binh Thuan. Phytochemistry investigation of this lichen was carried out by using normal phase silica gel column chromatography and thin-layer chromatography. Six compounds was isolated. Their structures were established by extensively spectroscopic analysis as well as comparison with NMR data in the literatures. They are (+)-D-montagnetol (1), (+)-D-erythrin (2), lecanorin (3), 1-acetylerythritol (4), (E)-nostodione A (5), and 2,4-dihydroxyphthalide (6). This is the first time compounds 3 6 were found in the Roccella genus. Compounds 1, 2, and 6 were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against HepG2 (liver hepatocellular carcinoma), NCI-H460 (human lung cancer), MCF-7 (human breast cancer), and HeLa (human epithelial cancer) and all of them showed no activity.

The genus Phlogacanthus belongs to the family Acanthaceae and consists of more than 49 species, These species are widespread in tropical and subtropical zones such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Indonesia, India, Myanmar and Vietnam. In Vietnam, the genus contains about 06 species. The extracts from some species in this genus have been evaluated for biological activities as analgesic, antiinflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antihyperglycemic and cytotoxic activities. In this study, the whole plant of Phlogacanthus turgidus was collected, dried, cut into small species, and extracted with ethanol to yield the ethanolic extract. Isolation of chemical constituents was performed using column chromatography on silica gel; their structures were elucidated by HRESI-MS, 1D & 2D-NMR and compared with published data. Six compounds, including two nor-isoprenoids: (+)-dehydrovomifoliol (1), (3S,5R,6R,7E,9S)-megastiman-7-ene-3,5,6,9-tetrol (2), two steroids b - sitosterol (3), daucosterol (4), one lignan (+)-syringaresinol (5), a derivative of phenylethanoid glycosides: martynoside (6) were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the whole plant of P. turgidus. Among them, 1, 2 were reported for the first time from the genus Phlogacanthus, while 3, 4, 5, 6, were found for the first time from this species.

Seven compounds (1-7) were isolated from the marine sponge Aaptos aaptos living in the Vietnamese sea. Their structures were determined as 2 hours, 5 H,7 H,9 H-9 S-hydroxy-imidazo[1,5- α]pyridine-1,3-dione (1), 3-([9-methylhexadecyl]oxy)propane-1,2-diol 2, 2,3-dihydro-2,3-dioxoaaptamine (3), indol-3-aldehyde (4), methyl indole-3-carboxylate (5) 4-hydroxy-5-(indole-3-yl)−5-oxo-pentan-2-one (6), and thymidine (7) by extensive analysis of HR-ESI-MS, 1D, and 2D NMR spectral data, as well as by comparison of the spectral data with those reported in the literature. In addition, the absolute configuration of 1 was determined from the experimental ECD spectrum and comparison of this with the theoretical ECD calculations using the TDDFT method. Compounds 1 and 2 were isolated from nature for the first time. Compound 3 induced cytotoxic activity against SK-LU-1, MCF-7, HepG2, and SK-Mel-2 cell lines with IC50 values of 41.27 ± 2.63, 40.70 ± 2.65, 34.31 ± 3.43, and 36.63 ± 1.40 µM, respectively.

Abstract From the green alga Avrainvillea amadelpha, two new naturally halo-benzaldehyde derivatives were isolated by various chromatographic methods along with 10 known metabolites of bromophenols, sulfonoglycolipid, and steroids. Based on the 1D and 2D NMR spectra as well as on MS data, the structures of the new compounds were identified as 5-bromo-2-(3-bromo-4-hydroxybenzyl)-3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde named avrainvilleal (1), and 3-iodo-4-hydroxy-benzaldehyde (2). Using SRB assay, both compounds showed mild and weak cytotoxic activity against HeLa and MCF-7 cancer cell lines, compared to the good activity of their extract (IC50 values 3.1 and 4.3 μg/mL, respectively). However, avrainvilleal (1) displayed an effective scavenged DPPH radical activity with IC50 value 3.5 μM, compared to the antioxidant quercetin with IC50 value 1.5 μM.

The detailed investigation of a methanolic extract of aerial parts of Achillea pannonica SCHEELE. within a chemotaxonomic study led to the isolation of 6 flavonoid glycosides. Besides rutin, apigenin-7-O-glucopyranoside, luteolin-7-O-glucopyranoside, apigenin-7-O-rutinoside and acacetin-7-O-rutinoside, an unusual flavondiglucoside was isolated. Its structure was established by UV, 1HNMR and 13C NMR spectroscopic methods including 2D-NMR techniques and ESI-MS as luteolin-7,4′-O-β-diglucoside. This substance is reported for the first time in the genus Achillea. Chemotaxonomic aspects are discussed briefly

Their structures and their configurations were established on the basis of high resolution mass spectra and extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data and by comparison with the literature. Their cytotoxic activity, evaluated against three human cancer cell lines, MCF-7, Hep-G2 and LU-1, revealed that only compounds 3 and 4 exhibited significant antiproliferative activity and compound 3 showed a selective inhibition towards the MCF-7 human breast cancer cells.

A phytochemical investigation of the whole plant of Juniperus oblonga led to the isolationof one previously undescribed labdane diterpenoid, (4R,5S,9S,10R)‐13‐des‐ethyl‐13‐oxolabda‐8(17),11E‐dien‐19‐oic acid (1), together with nine known diterpenoids (2–3, 6–12), two lignans (4, 5),and a coumarin (13). The structures of all the compounds were elucidated on the basis ofspectrometric data, primarily one‐dimensional (1D)‐ and two‐dimensional (2D)‐NMR and massspectrometry. Electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations determined the absoluteconfiguration of 1. In addition, the isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activityagainst three human tumor cell lines (HepG2, MCF‐7, and HeLa). 6,12‐Dihydroxyabieta‐5,8,11,13‐tetraen‐7‐one (6) showed moderate cytotoxicity against all three cell lines with IC50 values rangingfrom 24.41 μM to 58.39 μM and trilobinone (10) showed weaker activity with IC50 values rangingfrom 56.93 μM to 79.98 μM. None of the isolated diterpenoids have been previously reported fromJuniperus oblonga, and five compounds are here reported from the genus Juniperus for the first time.
