We have synthesized high-quality, nanoscale ultrathin ZnO films at relatively low temperature using a facile and effective hydrothermal approach. ZnO films were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectra (PL), and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. The products demonstrated 95% photodegradation efficiency with Congo red (CR) after 40 min irradiation. The photocatalytic degradation experiments of methyl orange (MO) and eosin red also were carried out. The results indicate that the as-obtained ZnO films might be promising candidates as the excellent photocatalysts for elimination of waste water.

The effects of Na2SO4concentrations on the electrochemical deposited ZnO films have been investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results show that Na2SO4concentration plays a very important role in directing the growth of films from rod-like ZnO to plate-like zinc hydroxysulfate under fast hydroxylation. At a lower Na2SO4concentration, the ZnO nanorods tend to be produced on the substrate. At a higher Na2SO4concentration, zinc hydroxysulfate plates can be preferentially formed.

Transparent indium-doped ZnO (IZO) films with low In content (<6at%) were fabricated through radio-frequency (rf) helicon magnetron sputtering. Formation of In-Zn-O solid solution was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns. Incorporation of indium into ZnO films enhances the optical transmission in the visible wavelength. The optical band-gaps slightly increase from 3.25eV (ZnO) to 3.28eV (In0.04Zn0.96O) and to 3.30eV (In0.06Zn0.94O) due to Burstain-Moss effect. The Urbach tail parameter E0, which is believed to be a function of structural disorder, increases from 79meV (ZnO), to 146meV (In0.04Zn0.96O), and to 173meV (In0.06Zn0.94O), which is consistent with increase of Full-Width Half-Maximum (FWHM) in corresponding XRD patterns. Decreasing in crystal quality with increasing indium concentration is also confirmed by photoluminescence spectra.

Abstract. In this article, nano-ZnO films were deposited on SiO2/Si (100) substrates by RF (radio frequency) magnetron sputtering using high purity (99.99%) ZnO target. The effects of deposition time and annealing temperature have been investigated. XRD (X-ray diffraction) and FSEM (Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy) were employed to characterize the quality of the films. The results show that the ZnO film with thickness of 600nm annealed at 900°C has higher quality of both C-axis orientation and crystallization. And for the Zone film with thickness of 300nm annealed at 850°C, the quality of both C-axis orientation and crystallization is higher than that annealed at 900°C and 950°C.

The effects of substrate-placing manner, deposition temperature and solution concentration on the preparation of ZnO films by chemical bath deposition were investigated in this work. The structures and the morphologies of as-deposited ZnO films were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope, respectively. The results show that compared with vertically insertion, floating the substrates on the solutions could greatly improve the c-axis orientation of the films. The growth of ZnO films with orientation would also be favored at lower precursor concentrations and temperatures. When the concentration of Zn ( CH 3 COO )2·2 H 2 O is 0.033 M/L and the deposited temperature is 60°C, ZnO films which are well crystallized and highly c-axis orientated were obtained.

The potential use of barium zirconate for the manufacture of corrosion-resistant substrates emphasizes the need for a simple, inexpensive, and easily scalable process to produce high-quality powders with well-controlled composition and properties. However, the classical solid-state preparation of barium zirconate leads to an inhomogeneous powder unsuitable for applications in highly corrosive environment. For this paper, the possibility to use the spray-drying technique for the preparation of BaZrO3 powders with a controlled size distribution and morphology was investigated. The influence of the nature and concentration of the precursor solution and the influence of the spray-drying step are discussed on the basis of x-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and dilatometric measurements.

As a hazardous waste, water pickling liquors must be properly treated. An alternative consists of promoting the formation of ferrous salts from this residue due to their higher ferrous content. Since FeCl2·4H2O is widely used in several applications, obtaining pure crystals of this material appears to be an interesting prospect. However, this compound has scarcely been investigated. In the present work, FeCl2·4H2O crystals were obtained from water pickling liquors. Their structural and morphological characteristics were investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy as well as Mössbauer spectroscopy. In addition, the photoluminescence study of the obtained samples was also assessed. It was observed that after some aging time, the obtained crystals changed in colour from green to more yellowish. As such, the aged sample was also evaluated, and their structural characteristics were compared with the original crystals. Despite this, the obtained crystals exhibit a FeCl2·4H2O structure, which is not modified with the aging of the sample.

The oriented (002) ZnO films were grown on a- and c-face sapphire by pulsed laser deposition. The X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the oriented (002) ZnO films were epitaxially grown on the substrate successfully. The sample on a-face sapphire had higher crystal quality. However, the photocatalytic activity for Rhodamine B degradation of ZnO film on c-face sapphire was higher than that on a-face sapphire. The Raman spectrum and XPS analysis suggested that the sample on a-face sapphire had higher concentration of defects. The result of the contact angle measurement revealed that the sample on c-face sapphire had higher surface energy. And the investigation of the surface conductance implied that the higher light conductance was helpful for the photocatalytic activity.

Un-doped and (Cu, Al)-doped ZnO thin films were prepared by sol-gel spin coating technique on glass substrate. The effect of(Cu, Al)incorporation on the structural, morphological and optical properties of the Zinc oxide (ZnO)film was investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and UV-vis spectrophotometer. It has been found that the grain sizes, Optical band gap and the preferred orientation growth of (002) plane were decreased with increasing of (Cu, Al) dopants amount in ZnO films.

Boehmite nanofibers of high quality were synthesized through a wet-gel conversion process without the use of a surfactant. The long nanofibers of boehmite with clear-cut edges were obtained by steaming the wet-gel precipitate at 170∘C for 2 days. Analytical techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared emission spectroscopy (IES), as well as Raman spectroscopy were used to characterize the products.

The ZnO films were deposited on quartz glass substrate by RF magnetron sputtering. The influences of the deposition power, the Ar/O2 ratio and the total press on the crystallinity of ZnO films were analyzed by X-ray diffraction. The results show that the films deposited at Ar/O2 ratio of 2:3 have better crystalline quality under our experimental conditions. The optimum power is about 120-160 W. The crystal structure was significantly influenced by the total pressure in the chamber. The total press should below 1 Pa in order to get high quality ZnO films.
