Service-oriented architecture (SOA) provides an elastic and automatic way to discover, publish, and compose individual services. SOA enables faster integration of existing software components from different parties, makes fault tolerance (FT) feasible, and is also one of the fundamentals of cloud computing. However, the unpredictable nature of SOA systems introduces new challenges for reliability evaluation, while reliability and dependability have become the basic requirements of enterprise systems. This paper proposes an SOA system reliability model which incorporates three common fault-tolerance strategies. Sensitivity analysis of SOA at both coarse and fine grain levels is also studied, which can be used to efficiently identify the critical parts within the system. Two SOA system scenarios based on real industrial practices are studied. Experimental results show that the proposed SOA model can be used to accurately depict the behavior of SOA systems. Additionally, a sensitivity analysis that quantizes the effects of system structure as well as fault tolerance on the overall reliability is also studied. On the whole, the proposed reliability modeling and analysis framework may help the SOA system service provider to evaluate the overall system reliability effectively and also make smarter improvement plans by focusing resources on enhancing reliability-sensitive parts within the system.

Many researchers have modeled systems under multiple dependent competing failure processes (MDCFP) in recent years. Typically, those failure processes consist of degradation (soft failure) and random shock (hard failure). In previous papers the threshold of hard failure has been a fixed value, which does not reflect engineering practices. Threshold refers to the ability to resist external random shocks, which shifts with time as the system is used. Thus, this paper establishes a model for MDCFP with instant-shift hard threshold. The hard failure threshold changes with time instantaneously, and it is also influenced by external shocks. This paper also presents a system reliability model. The effectiveness of the presented model is demonstrated by a reliability analysis of the micro-engine at Sandia National Laboratories. In addition, a sensitivity analysis is performed for specific parameters.

This paper presents a new type of hospital OA system based on the SOA(Service Oriented Architecture) architecture. The system follows the requirement of SOA in order to provide a better working condition for the hospital. The system adopts the plug-in programming method so that it can be partly designed by programmer without worrying about the programming language and the details of the operation system. The system provides many services, such as BBS service, address book service, email service, work attendance service, etc. These services can be deployed onto various application servers at different locations. In addition, the system also offers a special interface so that the mobile devices can use to access the system, The system prototype is implemented using web services from Tomcat. The data is stored in SQL Server 2005 database. The initial implementation has been tested in a provincial hospital and the corresponding results have been proven the feasibility of the proposed system.

Abstract In this article, a method is proposed to conduct a global sensitivity analysis of epistemic uncertainty on both system input and system structure, which is very common in early stage of system development, using Dempster-Shafer theory (DST). In system reliability assessment, the input corresponds to component reliability and system structure is given by system reliability function, cut sets, or truth table. A method to propagate real-number mass function through set-valued mappings is introduced and applied on system reliability calculation. Secondly, we propose a method to model uncertain system with multiple possible structures and how to obtain the mass function of system level reliability. Finally, we propose an indicator for global sensibility analysis. Our method is illustrated, and its efficacy is proved by numerical application on two case studies.

Abstract There is complicated correlations in mechanical system. By using the advantages of copula function to solve the related issues, this paper proposes the mechanical system reliability model based on copula function. And makes a detailed research for the serial and parallel mechanical system model and gets their reliability function respectively. Finally, the application research is carried out for serial mechanical system reliability model to prove its validity by example. Using Copula theory to make mechanical system reliability modeling and its expectation, studying the distribution of the random variables (marginal distribution) of the mechanical product’ life and associated structure of variables separately, can reduce the difficulty of multivariate probabilistic modeling and analysis to make the modeling and analysis process more clearly.

A new model and method for incorporating the effect of protection system failures into distribution system reliability evaluation are developed this paper. Firstly, the distribution system is partitioned into zones with the auto (or non-auto) switch being the boundary; through the network equivalent approach, for each load point, three component groups are respectively formed by two types of zone-elements. Then two types of protection failures and their impacts on reliability modeling are discussed. Finally, the reliability Markov model of load point with protection failures has been developed. The test results of the samples demonstrate the practicability and validness of the method.
