Due to dynamism in the behavior of mobile nodes, efficiency shall be achieved only with the assumption of good network infrastructure. This paper discusses a short survey on the specialized algorithms and protocols related to energy efficient load balancing for critical link detection in the recent literature. This paper also suggests a machine learning based hybrid power-aware approach for handling critical nodes via load balancing.

Service discovery plays a relevant role in mobile ad hoc environments. Indeed, upon joining a self-organizing network, mobile nodes should be able to explore the environment to learn about, locate, and share the available services. As a result, many researches were performed in this area. Recently, research is being directed towards integrating the service discovery into the routing protocols. This chapter presents the basic concepts of service discovery and their related issues. It also describes the service discovery challenges that arise due to the properties of mobile ad hoc networks. The chapter is concluded by presenting some observations and discussing the current challenges to provide guidelines for possible improvements.

Several position-based routing protocols have been developed for mobile ad hoc networks. Many of these protocols assume that a location service is available which provides location information on the nodes in the network. This paper introduces a new schema in management of mobile nodes location in mobile ad hoc networks. Fuzzy logic optimization is applied to a better management of location update operation in hierarchical location services. Update management overhead is decreased without significant loss of query success probability. One-hop-chain-technique is used for Auto compensation. A new composed method can update mobile nodes location when the nodes cross a grid boundary. The proposed method uses a dynamic grid area that ?solves the ping-pong problem between grids. Simulation results show that these methods are effective. The algorithms are distributed and can keep scalability in the scenario of increasing nodes density?. The described solutions are not limited to a special network grid ordering, and can be used in every hierarchical ordering like GLS if the ordering can be mappable on these methods.


In recent time, with the fast development of the mobile system, Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) have been fucus studied and applied in many areas such as rescue, military, medical applications and smart cities. Due to the characteristics of MANETs, routing protocols must be designed to be flexible, energy-efficient and highly performance achievable. Increasing network lifetime by reducing energy consumption level is a major method in the design of saving energy routing protocols in MANETs. In this study, we propose an improved routing protocol from AODV with a new cost function, applied to MANETs. The simulation results show, our proposed protocol saves energy consumption, increases network life, packet delivery rates, and improves performance over AODV

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are formed dynamically by mobile nodes without the support of prior stationary infrastructures. In such networks, routing protocols, particularly secure ones are always the essential parts. Ariadne, an efficient and well-known on-demand secure protocol of MANETs, mainly concerns about how to prevent a malicious node from compromising the route. In this paper, we apply the method of process algebra Communicating Sequential Processes (CSP) to model and reason about the Ariadne protocol, focusing on the process of its route discovery. In our framework, we consider the communication entities as CSP processes, including the initiator, the intermediate nodes and the target. Moreover, we also propose an intruder model allowing the intruder to learn and deduce much information from the protocol and the environment. Note that the modeling approach is also applicable to other protocols, which are based on the on-demand routing protocols and have the route discovery process. Finally, we use PAT, a model checker for CSP, to verify whether the model caters for the specification and the non-trivial secure properties, e.g. nonexistence of fake path. Three case studies are given and the verification results naturally demonstrate that the fake routing attacks may be present in the Ariadne protocol.
