A local similarity solution of unsteady MHD natural convection heat and mass transfer boundary layer flow past a flat porous plate within the presence of thermal radiation is investigated. The effects of exothermic and endothermic chemical reactions with Arrhenius activation energy on the velocity, temperature, and concentration are also studied in this paper. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to ordinary differential equations by introducing locally similarity transformation (Maleque (2010)). Numerical solutions to the reduced nonlinear similarity equations are then obtained by adopting Runge-Kutta and shooting methods using the Nachtsheim-Swigert iteration technique. The results of the numerical solution are obtained for both steady and unsteady cases then presented graphically in the form of velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles. Comparison has been made for steady flow () and shows excellent agreement with Bestman (1990), hence encouragement for the use of the present computations.

We investigate a local similarity solution of an unsteady natural convection heat and mass transfer boundary layer incompressible fluid flow past a moving vertical porous plate in the presence of the heat absorption and generation. The effects of chemical reaction rate which is function of temperature and Arrhenius activation energy on the velocity, temperature and concentration are also studied in this paper. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to ordinary differential equations by introducing local similarity transformation (Maleque, 2010a). Numerical solutions to the reduced non-linear similarity equations are then obtained by adopting Runge-Kutta and shooting methods using the Nachtsheim- Swigert iteration technique. The results of the numerical solution are then presented graphically in the form of velocity, temperature and concentration profiles. The corresponding skin friction coefficient, the Nusselt number and the Sherwood number are also calculated and displayed in table showing the effects of various parameters on them.

We study an unsteady MHD free convection heat and mass transfer boundary layer incompressible fluid flow past a vertical porous plate in the presence of viscous dissipation, heat generation/absorption, chemical reaction, and Arrhenius activation energy. The plate is moving with uniform velocity. The chemical reaction rate in the function of temperature is also considered. The governing partial differential equations are reduced to ordinary differential equations by introducing local similarity transformation (Maleque (2010)) and then are solved numerically by shooting method using the Nachtsheim-Swigert iteration technique. The results of the numerical solution are then presented graphically as well as the tabular form for difference values of the various parameters.

Abstract In this paper, we present a numerical method based on cubic B-spline function for studying the effects of thermal radiation and mass transfer on free convection flow over a moving vertical porous plate. Similarity transformations reduced the governing partial differential equations of the fluid flow to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations which are solved numerically using a cubic B-spline collocation method. The effects of various physical parameters on the velocity, temperature, and concentration distributions are shown graphically, and the numerical values of physical quantities like skin friction, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number for various parameters are presented in tabular form and discussed.

The paper presents the numerical investigation of the convection heat and mass transfer in a hydromagnetic Carreau fluid past a vertical porous plate in presence of thermal radiation and thermal diffusion. The non-linear partial differential equations governing the flow are transformed into ordinary differential equations using the usual similarity method and the resulting similarity equations are solved numerically using Runge-Kutta shooting method. The results are presented as velocity, temperature and concentration profiles for different values of parameters entering into the problem. The effects of suction, magnetic field, thermal radiation and thermal diffusion on the skin friction, rate of heat transfer and mass transfer are presented numerically in tabular form.

We study the two dimensional free convective oscillatory flow and mass transfer of a viscous and optically thin gray fluid over a porous vertical plate in the presence of radiation. The governing partial differential equations have been transformed to ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions are obtained for different values of radiation parameter, Grashof number and Schmidt number.

The problem of combined free-forced convection and mass transfer flow over a vertical porous flat plate, in presence of heat generation and thermaldiffusion, is studied numerically. The non-linear partial differential equations and their boundary conditions, describing the problem under consideration, are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations by using usual similarity transformations. This system is solved numerically by applying Nachtsheim-Swigert shooting iteration technique together with Runge-Kutta sixth order integration scheme. The effects of suction parameter, heat generation parameter and Soret number are examined on the flow field of a hydrogen-air mixture as a non-chemical reacting fluid pair. The analysis of the obtained results showed that the flow field is significantly influenced by these parameters.

The present study focuses on the non-Newtonian magnetohydrodynamic flow, under the kinetic postulate, of fluids that are initially liquid past a porous plate in the appearance of thermal radiation effects. Resemblance transfigurations are used to metamorphose the governing equations for temperature and velocity into a system of ordinary differential equations. We then solved these differential equations subject to convenient boundary conditions by using the shooting method along with the Runge–Kutta method. Heat transfer and characteristic flow results are acquired for different compositions of physical parameters. These results are extended graphically to demonstrate interesting attributes of the physics of the problem. Nusselt number and skin friction coefficients are also discussed via graphs and tables for different values of dimensionless parameters. Decline occurs in velocity profile due to escalating values of M. Temperature profile depicts growing behavior due to acceleration in the values of λ and M. Nusselt number and skin friction curves represent rising behavior according to their parameters.

Unsteady hydromagnetic free convective flow of a viscous, incompressible, electrically conducting, and heat radiating fluid past a flat plate with ramped wall temperature and suction/blowing is studied. The governing equations are first subjected to Laplace transformation and then inverted numerically usingINVLAProutine of Matlab. The numerical solutions of the fluid properties are presented graphically while the skin friction and heat and mass transfer coefficients are presented in tabular form. The results are verified by a careful comparison with results in the literature for certain parameter values.
