Reaction of Ce3+with p-tert-butylcalix[n]arene (n=4,6,8) yields purple crystalline complexes structurally as [Ce(p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene-3H)2(NO3)(DMF)x](2 −x)DMF (1), [Ce(p-tert-butylcalix[6]arene-4H)2(NO3)(DMF)x](3 −x)DMF (2), and [Ce(p-tert-butylcalix[8]arene-7H)2(NO3)(DMF)6] (3), whereDMF=N,N-dimethylformamide. The properties and coordination characteristics of the three calixarene complexes were determined by elemental analyses, electronic absorption, X-ray absorption spectroscopy (EXAFS), TG-DTA, FT-IR, SEM, and1H-NMR spectroscopy. The effect of various organic solvents on complexes1,2, and3has been discussed based on results from electronic absorption spectra. The polar protic solvents showed the most significant molar extinction coefficients in comparison with those of nonpolar and polar aprotic solvents. The Ce3+ions in the complexes are proved to combine with the ligand phenolic groups, oxygen atoms of DMF molecules, and/or OH−ions.

Schiff base diethyl 4,4-(pentane-2,4-diylidenebis(azanylylidene))benzoate (1) as a new ligand (L) was prepared by the reaction of acetylacetone with benzocaine in the ratio of 1 : 1. Two transition-metal complexes, [Ni(II)(LCl(HOEt))] (2) and [Zn(II)(LCl(HOEt))] (3), have been synthesized from metal salts with didentate Schiff base ligand (L) and characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR UV-Vis spectroscopy, and magnetic susceptibility. The biological activity of the complexes was studied. In addition, the M06-2x density function theory method and the 6-31G(d) basic set were applied to determine the optimized structures of 1–3 and to determine their IR and 1H NMR, 13C NMR spectra theoretically. The data are in good agreement with the experimental results. The geometries of complexes 2 and 3 were determined to be square-planar for 2 and tetrahedral for 3.

Six azo disperse dyes were prepared by diazotizing 4-amino hippuric acid and coupled with barbituric acid and 2-thiobarbituric acid. Then, the products were reacted with aromatic aldehyde, sodium acetate, and acetic anhydride, and oxazolone derivatives were formed. Characterization of the dyes was carried out by using UV-Vis, FT-IR,1H NMR and13C NMR, and mass spectroscopic techniques. The solvatochromic behavior of azo disperse dyes was evaluated in various solvents. The effects of substituents of aromatic aldehyde, barbiturate, and thiobarbiturate ring on the color of dyes were investigated.

The novel zinc(II) phthalocyanine complexes bearing tetra or octa-[7-oxy-3-(3′,4′,5′-trimethoxyphenyl)coumarin] moieties were synthesized for the first time in this study. These phthalocyanines were characterized by different spectroscopic methods such as FT-IR, 1H NMR, electronic absorption spectra, MALDI-TOF mass and elemental analyses as well. The photochemical properties such as singlet oxygen generation, photostability and photophysical properties such as fluorescence quantum yields and lifetimes were investigated in [Formula: see text],[Formula: see text]-dimethylformamide (DMF) solutions. The effect of the structure (the position and number of the coumarin groups on phthalocyanine framework) of novel phthalocyanines on these properties was also determined in this study.

AbstractPyromellitic dianhydride (1) was reacted with L-leucine (2) to result in [N,N'-(pyromellitoyl)-bis-L-leucine diacid] (3). This compound (3) was converted to N,N'-(pyromellitoyl)-bis-L-leucine diacid chloride (4) by reaction with thionyl chloride. The microwave-assisted polycondensation of this diacid chloride (4) with polyethyleneglycol-diol (PEG-200) and/or three synthetic bisphenols furnish a series of new PEIs and Co-PEIs in a laboratory microwave oven (Milestone). The resulting polymers and copolymers have inherent viscosities in the range of 0.31- 0.53 dl g-1. These polymers are optically active, thermally stable and soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as DMF, DMSO, NMP, DMAc and sulfuric acid. All of the above polymers were fully characterized by IR spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, elemental analyses, specific rotation and thermal analyses. Some structural characterizations and physical properties of these optically active PEIs and Co-PEIs are reported.

The reaction of PcMCl 2 ( M = Zr , Hf ) with β-diketones is reported. 1 H NMR and elemental analysis suggest the substitution of two Cl atoms for two β-diketone fragments takes place as a result of this reaction and the complexes PcM(β-dik)2 are formed. All obtained complexes are stable and highly soluble in most organic solvents. The data from 1 H and 19 F NMR, and UV-vis spectroscopy suggest the coordination of two β-diketone ligands in a cis geometry about the central atom of the macrocycle. It was shown bis(β-diketonato)zirconium(IV) and hafnium(IV) phthalocyanines containing β-diketones with donor or acceptor groups or with bulky substituents can be obtained.

Beginning with 5,10,15-triarylporphyrin-nickel complex, five meso-to-meso directly linked porphyrin-diazaporphyrin triads were successfully prepared for the first time through a series of reactions including formylation via Vilsmeier–Haack reaction, condensation with pyrrole, bromination with [Formula: see text]-Bromosuccinimide (NBS), oxidation with 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ), metal-templated cyclization of dibromodipyrrin-metal complexes with NaN[Formula: see text] and demetalization. All these triads were comprehensively characterized by [Formula: see text]H NMR, high-resolution mass spectrometry and UV-vis absorption. In addition, the structure of compound 6Ni was unambiguously determined by X-ray diffraction analysis, which showed that the two dihedral angles are both 86.65 (4)[Formula: see text] between each mean plane of porphyrin and that of central diazaporphyrin The UV-vis absorption spectra disclosed that the longest wavelengths of Soret bands and Q bands for these triads were observed at 429 and 642 nm, respectively. In contrast to diazaporphyrin-porphyrin dyads, diazaporphyrin dimers and diazaporphyrin monomers reported previously the molar extinction coefficients, particularly for triad 8Ni are much higher.

ABSTRACTIn this study, 3 types of zwitterionic phospholipid biosurfactants LDP(S), CDP(S) and CTDP(S) were prepared from 3 different raw materials such as rapeseed oil, coconut oil and cottonseed oil respectively. The structure of the resulting phospholipid biosurfactants was elucidated by FT-IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopies and their interfacial properties have been examined such as CMC, static surface tension, wetting property, solution stability, and foam property. Interfacial property measurement and prescription test in cosmetic formulation prepared with the newly synthesized biosurfactants revealed that CDP(S) biosurfactant possesses excellent mildness and superior interfacial properties, indicating the potential applicability in cosmetic product formulations.

Copolymers based on 1, 4-diethoxybenzene (DEB) and 3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) were electrochemically synthesized and characterized. The structures of the copolymers were established by 1H NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy. The results indicated the final product was a copolymer instead of a blend or a composite. The physical properties were systematically investigated by cyclic voltammetry, UV-vis absorption and fluorescence. The PL maximum of copolymers presented obviously red-shift to long wavelength as the feed ratio of EDOT in monomer mixture increased.

In this paper, some chalcone derivatives (C1, C2) were synthesized based on the reaction of equal amount of substituted acetophenone and substituted banzaldehyde in basic medium. Oxazine and thiazine derivatives were prepared from the reaction of chalcones (C1-C2) with urea and thiourea respectively in a basic medium. Pyrazole derivatives were prepared based on the reaction of chalcones with hydrazine mono hydrate or phenyl hydrazine in the presence of glacial acetic acid as a catalyst. The new synthesized compounds were identified using various physical techniques like1 H-NMR and FT-IR spectra.
