Self-healing polymers are a new class of material that has recently received a lot of attention because of the lifespan improvement it could bring to multiple applications. One of the major challenges is to obtain multifunctional materials which can self-heal and exhibit other interesting properties such as protection against corrosion. In this paper, the effect of the incorporation of an aminosilane on the properties of a self-healing organic polymer containing disulfide bond is studied on films and coatings for aluminium AA2024-T3 using simple one step in situ synthesis. Hybrid coatings with enhanced anticorrosion properties measured by EIS were obtained thanks to the formation of a protective oxide interface layer, while exhibiting wound closure after exposition at 75 °C. The thermal, mechanical and rheological properties of the films with different aminosilane amounts were characterized in order to understand the influence of the slight presence of the inorganic network. Stiffer and reprocessable hybrid films were obtained, capable to recover their mechanical properties after healing. The nanocomposite structure, confirmed by TEM, had a positive effect on the self-healing and stress relaxation properties. These results highlight the potential of sol-gel chemistry to obtain efficient anticorrosion and self-healing coatings.

The all processes for manufacturing materials parts of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) are discussed in the paper. The films are made in one step by the ways of APS, VPS, EVD, which are usually used to produce the electrolyte and interconnect. The films are thin and good gas-resistance, but with relatively high cost. All parts of SOFC are made by the following ways, such as sol-gel, tape casting, tape calendaring and screen printing, which are suitable for manufacturing samples in industry with the cheapest process by co-sintered together ways.

AbstractNanostructured zinc titanate (NZT) was synthesized in high yield via a one-step and template-free sol-gel route. The prepared nanocomposite exhibited good size uniformity and regularity. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of the NZT was evaluated in the degradation and mineralization of Indocorn Brilliant Red (M5B) under metal halide lamp irradiation. The effects of different parameters such as pH of the solution, and initial dye concentration on photodegradation of M5B were analyzed. The degradation of M5B follows pseudo-first order kinetics according to the Langmuir-Hinshelwood model. The experimental results showed that the initial concentration of azo dye in the dye mixture greatly affected the degradation efficiency. At M5B concentrations of 10 mg/L, the optimum conditions for the highest degradation efficiency (94%) of azo dye were a photocatalyst dosage of 0.01 g/L and an initial solution pH of 9. This study provided new insight into the design and preparation of nanomaterial demonstrated an excellent ability to remove organic pollutants in wastewater.

An eco-friendly and efficient one-step approach for the synthesis of carbon quantum dots (CDs) that encapsulated molecularly imprinted fluorescence quenching particles (MIFQP) and their application for the determination of zearalenone (ZEA) in a cereal sample are described in this study. CDs with high luminescence were first synthesized, and then encapsulated in the silica-based matrix through a non-hydrolytic sol-gel process. The resulting ZEA-imprinted particles exhibited not only an excellent specific molecular recognition of ZEA, but also good photostability and obvious template binding-induced fluorescence quenching. Under the optimized conditions, the fluorescence intensity of MIFQP was inversely proportional to the concentration of ZEA. By validation, the detection range of these fluorescence quenching materials for ZEA was between 0.02 and 1.0 mg L−1, and the detection limit was 0.02 mg L−1 (S/N = 3). Finally, the MIFQP sensor was successfully applied for ZEA determination in corn with recoveries from 78% to 105% and the relative standard deviation (RSD %) was lower than 20%, which suggests its potential in actual applications.

A new method for fast and simple synthesis of crystalline TiO2 nanoparticles with photocatalytic activity was developed by carrying out a classic sol–gel reaction directly under vacuum. The use of microwaves for fast heating of the reaction medium further reduces synthesis times. When the solvent is completely removed by vacuum, the product is obtained in the form of a powder that can be easily redispersed in water to yield a stable nanoparticle suspension, exhibiting a comparable photocatalytic activity with respect to a commercial product. The present methodology can, therefore, be considered a process intensification procedure for the production of nanotitania.

TiO2 develops a higher efficiency when doping Bi into it by increasing the visible light absorption and inhibiting the recombination of photogenerated charges. Herein, a highly efficient Bi doped TiO2 photoanode was fabricated via a one-step modified sol-gel method and a screen-printing technique for the anode of photocatalytic fuel cell (PFC). A maximum degradation rate of 91.2% of Rhodamine B (RhB) and of 89% after being repeated 5 times with only 2% lost reflected an enhanced PFC performance and demonstrated an excellent stability under visible-light irradiation. The excellent degradation performance was attributed to the enhanced visible-light response and decreased electron-hole recombination rate. Meanwhile, an excellent linear correlation was observed between the efficient photocurrent of PFC and the chemical oxygen demand of solution when RhB is sufficient.
