In the experiment on the white Wistar female rats (222 animals), the osteoprotective effect of enalapril and losartan was studied on experimental models of osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures. It was revealed that in rats after ovariectomy, the endothelial dysfunction of microcirculation vessels of osteal tissue develops, resulting in occurrence of osteoporosis and delay of consolidation of experimental fractures. Enalapril and losartan prevented the reduction of microcirculation in bone, which was reflected in slowing the thinning of bone trabeculae and in preventing the occurrence of these microfractures, as well as increasing quality of experimental fractures healing.

Osteoprotective action of resveratrol and etoksidol was studied on the model of experimental osteoporosis (140 female Wistar rats). It was detected that endothelial dysfunction of bone tissue microcirculation bed that led to osteoporosis development. In contrast to etoksidol, resveratrol prevented the reduction of bone tissue microcirculation level and the aggravation of bone remodeling processes in developing osteoporosis that was manifested by delayed bone trabeculae thinning and averting of microfractures in them.

The experiment was carried out on 120 female white Wistar rats, to study the endothelio- and osteoprotective action of the combination of rosuvastatin with L-norvaline in the model of experimental osteoporosis. It was found that, after ovariectomy in rats, endothelial dysfunction of the vessels of the microcirculatory bed of bone tissue develops, leading to the appearance of osteoporosis, but the combination of the studied drugs prevents the decrease in the level of microcirculation in the bone tissue, thereby preventing the thinning of bone trabeculae and preventing the occurrence of microfractures in them.

Osteoporosis is an alarming issue in the society today. It is continuously increasing its signicance with increasing elderly population and is affecting both the sexes at different degrees. It is characterized by low bone mass with microarchitectural deterioration of bone leading to enhanced bone fragility, thus increasing the susceptibility to fracture. Taking into account the references available in various Ayurvedic classics it can be correlated to Asthikshaya. Asthikshaya occurs due to decrease in strength of Asthi Dhatu chiey due to Kala, Swabhava and Vata Prakopa. International Osteoporosis Foundation estimated that the annual direct cost of treating osteoporotic fractures has increased grossly. In India the general population is not much aware about the hazardous complications of osteoporosis. The modern pharmacological treatment is long and beyond the nancial reach of common people. Therefore the best way to deal with it is to prevent this as early as possible. To achieve this aim a clinical study was conducted to evaluate the effect of an Ayurvedic Formulation known as Eleg Fem capsules (Asthishrinkhalaadi Yoga) in osteoporotic patients. In the clinical trial 30 patients above the age of 40 years with low BMD T-Score were registered from OPD and IPD of Kayachikitsa department of Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Post Graduate Ayurvedic College and Hospital Paprola, Kangra. Out of 30 patients, 27 completed the trial and 3 patients were drop out. Criteria of assessment of patients was change in bone mineral density (BMD T- Score) and change in the score of Quality of Life Index Questionnaire for Osteoporosis (QUALEFFO-41). All the registered patients were given the formulation for 6 weeks. Improvement was observed with statistically signicant results on mean BMD TScore and moderately signicant result on Quality of Life Index scoring. The study revealed that the Eleg Fem capsules (Asthishrinkhalaadi Yoga) is a safe and effective therapy in the Osteoporotic patients.

Abstract AIM Despite a wide variety of models found in literature, choosing the right one can be difficult as many of them are lacking precise methodology. This study aims to analyze and compare original burn models in terms of burn device and technique, parameters, and wound depth assessment. METHODS A systematic search was performed according to PRISMA guidelines on studies describing original experimental burn models in rats. The adapted PICO formula and ARRIVE checklist were followed for inclusion and assessment of quality of studies. Characteristics of animals, burn technique, burn parameters and method of histological confirmation of burn depth were recorded. RESULTS Twenty-seven studies were included in the final analysis. Most studies used direct contact with skin for burn infliction (n=20). The rat’s dorsum was the most common site (n=18). Ten studies used manually controlled burn devices, while ten designed automatic burn devices with control over temperature (n=10), exposure time (n=5), and pressure (n=5). Most studies (n=7) used a single biopsy taken from the center of the wound to confirm burn depth immediately after burn infliction. CONCLUSION From the wide variety of burn models in current literature, our study provides an overview of the most relevant experimental burn models in rats aiding researchers to understand what needs to be addressed when designing their burn protocol. Models cannot be compared as burn parameters variate significantly. Assessment of burn depth should be done in a standardized, sequential fashion in future burn studies to increase reproducibility.

Background: Compared with men, women have more evidence of myocardial ischemia in the setting of no obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). While low endogenous estrogen levels are associated with endothelial dysfunction, the role of low dose hormone therapy has not been fully evaluated in women suffering from myocardial ischemia and no obstructive CAD. Objective: This WISE ancillary trial evaluated the effect of low dose hormone therapy in postmenopausal women with myocardial ischemia and no obstructive CAD on: endothelial dysfunction, assessed by brachial artery reactivity, physical functional disability assessed by exercise testing, and quality of life assessed by cardiac symptoms and psychological questionnaires. Methods: Using a multicenter, randomized, placebo-controlled design, seventy-four participants with normal/minimally diseased epicardial coronary arteries (<50% luminal diameter stenosis) who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were planned to be randomized to receive either 1 mg norethindrone/10 mcg ethinyl estradiol (1/10 NA/EE) or placebo for twelve weeks. Baseline and exit brachial artery reactivity (BART), exercise stress testing, WISE psychosocial questionnaires, SF-36, blood lipids and hormone levels were evaluated. Results: Recruitment was closed prematurely due to failure to recruit in the year following publication of the Women’s Health Initiative hormone trial results. Of the 37 women randomized, 35 completed the study. While there was no difference in the frequency of chest pain between groups at the baseline visit, at study exit there was less frequent chest pain in the 1/10 NA/EE group compared to the placebo group (p=0.02). Women taking 1/10 NA/EE also showed a trend to improved BART and exercise tolerance, and had significantly fewer hot flashes/night sweats (p=0.003), less avoidance of intimacy (p=0.05), and borderline differences in sexual desire and vaginal dryness (p=0.06). Conclusion: Among postmenopausal women with myocardial ischemia and no obstructive CAD, hormone therapy with 1/10 NA/EE is associated with reduced chest pain symptoms, menopausal symptoms and improved quality of life with trends for improved endothelial function and exercise performance.
