Crack expansion of concrete is the initial damage stage of structures, which may cause greater damage to structures subject to long-term loads or under extreme conditions. In recent years, the application of intelligent materials to crack self-repair has become a hotspot among researchers. In order to study the influence of factors on the self-repair capability of shape memory alloy (SMA) wire concrete beam, both theoretical and experimental methods were employed for analysis. For the convenience of experiment, composite materials (epoxy cement mortar and silicone polymer clay) instead of concrete were used. The SMA wires were externally installed on and internally embedded in epoxy resin cement mortar beams and silicone polymer clay beams. Comparison of crack repair situation between two installation methods turns out that both methods possess their own advantages and disadvantages and should be employed according to the actual situation. The influence of unbonded length on the self-repair capability of embedded type SMA wire beams and the necessary minimum unbonded length to achieve self-repair function were studied. The results state clearly that the longer the unbonded length is, the better the crack repair situation is.

The pharmaceutical industry has faced several marked challenges in order to bring new chemical entities (NCEs) into the market over the past few decades. Various novel drug delivery approaches have been used as a part of life cycle management from which Osmotic drug delivery systems look the most promising one. After discussing the history of osmotic pump development, this article looks at the principles, advantages and disadvantages of osmotic drug delivery systems. Then, the basic components of osmotic pump and factors affecting the design of oral osmotic drug delivery systems are discussed in detail. In the later part of the manuscript, various types of osmotic pumps available in the market and evaluation methods for osmotic drug delivery systems are discussed in detail.

Continuum damage-healing mechanics (CDHM) is used for phenomenological modeling of self-healing materials. Self-healing materials have a structural capability to recover a part of the damage for increasing materials life. In this paper, a semi-analytic modeling for self-healing concrete beam is performed. Along this purpose, an elastic damage-healing model through spectral decomposition technique is utilized to investigate an anisotropic behavior of concrete in tension and compression. We drive an analytical closed-form solution of the self-healing concrete beam. The verification of the solution is shown by solving an example for a simply supported beam having uniformly distributed the load. Finally, a result of a self-healing concrete beam is compared to elastic one to demonstrate the capability of the proposed analytical method in simulating concrete beam behavior. The results show that for the specific geometry, the self-healing concrete beam tolerates 21% more weight, and the deflection of the entire beam up to failure load is about 27% larger than elastic solution under ultimate elastic load for both I-beam and rectangular cross-section. Comparison of Continuum Damage Mechanics (CDM) solution with CDHM solution of beam shows that critical effective damage is decreased by 32.4% for a rectangular cross-section and by 24.2% for I-shape beam made of self-healing concrete.

Abstract: Mass consolidation of stone and brick masonry is considered, with exclusion of pure crack repair. Damage and specific failure mechanisms in multiple leaf masonry are presented. The aims of consolidation are explained, and the inherent advantages and disadvantages of distinct strengthening and consolidation techniques are given. An historical overview of consolidation methods and of development of consolidation grout materials is given, which explains how technology evolved to the actual procedures.

Objectives: The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis and health outcomes are among the major human social events of the 21st century. The unknown nature of the disease and the fear of contagion have caused emotional reactions, including the self-consumption of drugs in the elderly. Therefore, this study investigated factors affecting the self-consumption of drugs for COVID-19 prevention in the elderly. Methods & Materials: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was performed on 342 elderly in Sabzevar City, Iran, in 2020. The research units were selected as clusters from 16 health centers. The necessary data were collected by an online self-medication questionnaire. Data analysis was performed in SPSS. Results: The Mean±SD age of the study participants was 66.2±5.67 years. The frequency of self-medication to prevent COVID-19 was 190(55.5%); analgesics, vitamins, anti-cold, and antibiotics were the most common drugs used. The major factors associated with self-medication in the COVID-19 pandemic were disease prevention, home quarantine, financial problems, experiencing previous self-medication, and others’ advice. There was a significant relationship between self-medication and education and insurance coverage. No significant relationship was observed between gender, occupation, and marital status, and self-medication. Conclusion: Self-Medication in the COVID-19 epidemic is notable as a crisis threatening the elderly’s health. Controlling and monitoring how the drug is used is among the requirements for protection and health promotion in the elderly.

The relevance of the topic is largely due to the development of the country's tax base and the expansion of the geography of the special tax regime of the NAP. The main aspects of the functioning described in the work help to assess the advantages and disadvantages of the tax for self-employed persons. The purpose of the study is to reflect the trend in the development of a special tax regime for self-employed citizens in the Russian Federation. In connection with the purpose of the study, the following tasks were solved: to reveal the essence of the “self-employed population”, to characterize the main provisions of the special tax regime of the NAP, to consider the statistics of the number of self-employed persons in the Russian Federation, to identify the specifics of the tax regime for the self-employed population. The subject of the research is the special tax regime "Tax on professional income". The object of the research is the regulatory framework, as well as statistical data submitted by individuals to the Federal Tax Service on the implementation of activities to provide services to other individuals for personal, household and (or) other needs. As part of this research article explores the concept of "self-employed" citizens and trends in the use of special tax regime for the self-employed population in Russia according to the Federal Law from 27.11.2018 No. 422 «On the experiment of establishing a special tax regime "Tax on professional income"». The positive and negative aspects of the functioning of the tax regime are identified and the dynamics of the implementation of the law is studied.

In many developing countries, there is limited access to electricity with the populace typically resorting to purchasing personal electricity generating units. This research explores the factors affecting the possibility of introducing smart homes that would conserve electricity, reduce a need for reliance on the national grid and lower energy costs. Advantages and disadvantages, as well as the impact on society and development in general are examined in addition to future perspectives on smart homes and sustainable energy.

The paper considers the challenges in the modern pedagogical environment and in the education system, in connection with the transition to the digital space. It is noted that information technologies and the ability to work with them come to the fore in education. It is established that the student-teacher relationship is changing, and the student-technology relationship is becoming stronger every year. The rationale for the self-organization of teachers and students for effective interaction is given. The main advantages and disadvantages of distance learning and teacher-student interaction in an electronic environment are considered.

Children’s academic and well-being outcomes are influenced by both the home and the school environments. This means that parents and schools have a shared responsibility for promoting children’s development. Research shows that when parents and schools work together, students, parents, and teachers all benefit. One way in which schools can engage parents in their child’s education is by offering parenting support through parenting programs like the Triple P—Positive Parenting Program. Triple P can assist parents to develop effective morning, afternoon, and bedtime routines and to help students gain the self-management skills and the self-confidence necessary to succeed at school. This chapter discusses strategies and considerations for successfully implementing Triple P in schools, taking into account the school setting, workforce, and factors affecting parent participation.
