An efficient, simple, and environmentally benign method for the synthesis of novel sulfanyl tetrazoles has been achieved by one-pot three-component reaction of phenacyl bromides/3-(2-bromoacetyl)coumarins with KSCN and NaN3using [Bmim]BF4ionic liquid. It could be reused and recycled for four runs without significant loss of product yield.

In this paper the preparation of 3,3,6,6-tetramethyl-9-aryl-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10- decahydroacridin-1,8-dione derivatives from aromatic aldehydes, 5,5-dimethyl-1,3- cyclohexanedione and ammonium acetate in ionic liquids [bmim+][BF4-] is described. This new method has the advantages of easier work-up, milder reaction conditions, high yields and an environmentally benign procedure compared with other methods.

A novel heterogeneous silica nanosphere-supported ferrocene-containing ionic liquid catalyst (SiO2@Imid-Cl@Fc) was designed and synthesised and was systematically characterised by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The catalytic activity of the SiO2@Imid-Cl@Fc catalyst was tested in a one-pot, three-component reaction of malononitrile and kojic acid with 15 aromatic aldehydes at room temperature under ultrasound irradiation. The products were pyrano[3,2-b]pyran derivatives, four of which are new. The catalyst exhibited good catalytic performance over short reaction times (15–20 min) and could be recycled at least five times without significant loss of activity.

AbstractA one-pot three component reaction of benzaldehydes, 1H-tetrazole-5-amine, and 3-cyanoacetyl indole in the presence of a new hexamethylenetetramine-based ionic liquid/MIL-101(Cr) metal–organic framework as a recyclable catalyst was explored. This novel catalyst, which was fully characterized by XRD, FE-SEM, EDX, FT-IR, TGA, BET, and TEM exhibited outstanding catalytic activity for the preparation of a range of pharmaceutically important tetrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-carbonitriles with good to excellent yields in short reaction time.

Copper ferrite (CuFe2O4) magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were synthesized via thermal decomposition method and applied as a reusable and green catalyst in the synthesis of functionalized 4H-pyran derivatives using malononitrile, an aromatic aldehyde and a β-ketoester in ethanol at room temperature. Then it was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, thermo gravimetric and differential thermo gravimetric (TGA/DTG) analysis. The catalyst was recovered from the reaction mixture by applying an external magnet and decanting the mixture. Recycled catalyst was reused for several times without significant loss in its activity. Running the one-pot three-component reaction at room temperature, no use of eternal energy source and using a green solvent provide benign, mild, and environmentally friendly reaction conditions; as well, ease of catalyst recovering, catalyst recyclability, no use of column chromatography and good to excellent yields are extra advantages of this work.

Silica sulfuric acid magnetic nanoparticles efficiently catalyze the one-pot, three-component reaction of isatins and malononitrile with dimedone, 1,3-dimethylbarbituric acid or 4-hydroxycoumarin in EtOH–H2O to afford the corresponding spiro[2-amino-4H-pyran-oxindole] derivatives in high yields under ultrasound irradiation at 60 °C. The heterogeneous nanocatalyst could be recovered easily from the reaction mixture using an external magnet and reused many times without significant loss of its catalytic activity.

Low solubility of terephthalic acid in common solvents makes its industrial production very difficult and not environmentally benign. Ionic liquids are known for their extraordinary solvent properties, with capability to dissolve a wide variety of materials, from common solvents to cellulose, opening new possibilities to find more suitable solvents for terephthalic acid. This work presents studies on the solubility of terephthalic acid in ionic liquids, and demonstrates that terephthalic acid is soluble in ionic liquids, such as 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium diethylphosphate, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate, and dialkylimidazolium chlorides up to four times higher than in DMSO. Additionally, the temperature effect and correlation of ionic liquid structure with solubility efficiency are discussed.

A simple, clean, straightforward, and environmentally benign one-pot, three-component reaction of various arylglyoxal monohydrates, β-naphthol, and barbituric acid [pyrimidine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione] or thiobarbituric acid in the presence of catalytic amounts potassium phthalimide-N-oxyl (PPINO), as a mild and efficient organocatalyst in aqueous media under reflux conditions is reported. This transformation produced the novel diverse-substituted 12-benzoyl-8,12-dihydro-9H-benzo[5,6]chromeno[2,3-d]pyrimidine-9,11(10H)-diones and their sulfur analogues in 82–93% yield via filtration and without utilization of any chromatography. The high yields of products, very simple operation, easy workup, availability of starting materials, green process, and high atom-economy are the main benefits of this synthetic strategy.
