Recently Liu applied the variational homotopy perturbation method for fractional initial boundary value problems. This note concludes that the method is a modified variational iteration method using He’s polynomials. A standard variational iteration algorithm for fractional differential equations is suggested.

A variational homotopy perturbation method (VHPM) which is based on variational iteration method and homotopy perturbation method is applied to solve the approximate solution of the fractional initial boundary value problems. The nonlinear terms can be easily handled by the use of He's polynomials. It is observed that the variational iteration method is very efficient and easier to implements; illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the high accuracy and fast convergence of this new algorithm.

In this paper, we apply the modified variational iteration method (mVIM) for solving integrodifferential equations and coupled systems of integro-differential equations. The proposed modification is made by the elegant coupling of He’s polynomials and the correction functional of variational iteration method. The proposed mVIM is applied without any discretization, transformation or restrictive assumptions and is free from round off errors and calculation of the so-called Adomian’s polynomials.

AbstractIn this paper, we introduce a modified variational iteration method (MVIM) for solving Riccati differential equations. Also the fractional Riccati differential equation is solved by variational iteration method with considering Adomians polynomials for nonlinear terms. The main advantage of the MVIM is that it can enlarge the convergence region of iterative approximate solutions. Hence, the solutions obtained using the MVIM give good approximations for a larger interval. The numerical results show that the method is simple and effective.
