The probability theory, in general, with the help of the dichotomous state develops the theory of reliability. Recently, the fuzzy reliability has been developed based on the concept of possibility distribution and fuzzy-state assumption. In this paper, we derive the possibility distribution function and discuss the properties of a k-out-of-n (1≤k≤n) system based on the assumption of the possibility theory and keeping the dichotomous state of the system unchanged when the lifetime distribution is either normal, Cauchy, or exponential. A few results contrary to the conventional reliability theory are obtained.

According to the situation of randomness and fuzziness existing in the actual project, this paper proposed a reliability-credibility model based on fuzzy theory, possibility theory and credibility theory. At firstly, a reliability-possibility distribution curve was constructed by the traditional stress-strength interference model, then, a reliability distribution function was established based on this. This model built a bridge between credibility and reliability in handling randomness and fuzziness. The research results show that the model can hand the situation of random information and fuzzy information coexistence well, and the acceptable level of reliability and the most credible reliability value can be reflected directly in the reliability-credibility distribution curve. Compared with other methods, it obtains more reliability information, accords with the actual engineering situation and guides reliability engineering design much better.

This work deals with the hesitant fuzzy number and averaging operator and fuzzy reliability with the help of Weibull lifetime distribution. Fuzzy reliability function and triangular hesitant fuzzy number also computed with α-cut set of the proposed reliability function. After applying the averaging operator of hesitant theory, the results are better than simple fuzzy. Also at last, a numerical example has been shown that how the hesitant fuzzy and α-cut work in case of reliability theory.

A novel type of mechanical presses design driven by three servo motors in parallel is proposed to develop high stamping capacity based on the theory of generalized function sets, and then is improved to enhance its practicability in engineering practice. The inverse and forward kinematics analyses are conducted later. Based on the fuzzy probability theory, the computing method of fuzzy reliability of kinematic accuracy of slider is then obtained. Finally, with a set of optimized length parameters of the presses given, the fuzzy reliability is calculated, on the basis of which a typical deep-drawing process is simulated.

The fuzzy allowable intervals of the deflection, the vibration frequency and the fatigue strength of the shaft fixing grinding wheel are proposed in present paper based fuzzy set theory. According to fuzzy probability theory, the fuzzy reliability model of the rigidity, the fuzzy reliability model of the vibration and the fuzzy reliability model of the fatigue for the shaft fixing grinding wheel in internal grinding are given. The method is put into real example.

Sonar sensors are widely used in mobile robots applications such as navigation, map building, and localization. The performance of these sensors is affected by the environmental phenomena, sensor design, and target characteristics. Therefore, the readings obtained from these sensors are uncertain. This uncertainity is often modeled by using Probability Theory. However, the probablistic approach is valid when the available knowledge is precise which is not the case in sonar readings. In this paper, the behavior of sonar readings reflected from walls and corners are studied, then new models of angular uncertainty and radial imprecision for sonar readings obtained from corners and walls are proposed. These models are represented by using Possibility Theory, mainly possibility distributions.

In machines working under the effect of alternating stresses, the fatigue bending deflection occured occasionally. On the basis of the Fuzzy Reliability Theory and with full consideration of the fuzzy factors during mechanical process, the paper studied the fuzzy reliability optimal design for the hollow spindle of multi-functional jade carving machine and improved the design quality of the jade carving machine spindle by probing into the combined model constructed by the random variables and fuzzy variables. The design was approved to be advanced, reliable and practical in service and provided a new way for the design of multifunctional jade carving machine spindle and other mechanical products.

In this paper, rst a new notion of fuzzy random variables is introduced. Then, usingclassical techniques in Probability Theory, some aspects and results associated to a randomvariable (including expectation, variance, covariance, correlation coecient, etc.) will beextended to this new environment. Furthermore, within this framework, we can use thetools of general Probability Theory to dene fuzzy cumulative distribution function of afuzzy random variable.

This chapter analyzes fuzzy reliability theory using bibliometric analysis. Different aspects of fuzzy have already been analyzed using bibliometric analysis, and a series of bibliometric tools have also been used. VOSviewer software was used to identify maps showing the most relevant trends. The analysis includes scientific articles, citations, journals, authors, universities, keywords, and countries. Results show that countries belonging mainly to Asia are at the avant-garde in terms of research in the field, China and India being the most productive countries in terms of the number of articles published, citations, and universities invested in the topic. Other countries in North America, such as Canada and the United States, and in Europe, the UK, Poland, Italy, and France, also show a great interest in this area of science. Research on the topic is relatively recent. The first articles were published in 1991; therefore, it presents excellent opportunities that will quite possibly attract researchers and universities from different regions of the world.
