Flow-through stripping chronopotentiometry with a gold wire electrode was used for the determination of total arsenic and cadmium in cadmium sulphate solutions for cadmium production. The analysis is based on the online separation of arsenic as arsenate anion from cadmium cations by means of a cation exchanger. On measuring arsenate in the effluent, the trapped cadmium is eluted by sodium chloride solution and determined in a small segment of the effluent by making use of the same electrode. The elaborated protocol enables a full automatic measurement of both species in the same sample solution. The accuracy of the results was confirmed by atomic absorption spectrometry. The LOD and LOQ for Arsenic were found to be 0.9 μg dm-3and 2.7 μg dm-3, respectively. A linear response range was observed in the concentration range of 1 to 300 μg dm-3for sample volumes of 4 mL. The repeatability and reproducibility were found to be 2.9% and 5.2%, respectively. The linear response range for cadmium was found to be 0.5 to 60 g/L. The method was tested on samples from a cadmium production plant.

A fully mechanized multicommutated flow analysis (MCFA) system dedicated to determining horseradish peroxidase (HRP) activity was developed. Detection was conducted using a flow-through optoelectronic detector-constructed of paired LEDs operating according to the paired emitter-detector diode (PEDD) principle. The PEDD-MCFA system is dedicated to monitoring the enzyme-catalyzed oxidation of p-phenylenediamine (pPD) by a hydrogen peroxide. Under optimized conditions, the presented bioanalytical system was characterized by a linear response range (33.47–200 U/L) with a detection limit at 10.54 U/L HRP activity and 1.66 mV·L/U sensitivity, relatively high throughput (12 signals recordings per hour), and acceptable precision (RSD below 6%). Additionally, the utility of the developed PEDD-MCFA system for the determination of HRP inhibitors allowing the detection of selected thiols at micromolar levels, is demonstrated. The practical utility of the flow system was illustrated by the analysis of some dietary supplements containing L-cysteine, N-acetylcysteine, and L-glutathione.

A new type of poly (sulfosalicylic acid)/graphene modified electrode (PSA/GH/GCE) was fabricated by dispensing graphene (GH) on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) and then electro-polymerized sulfosalicylic acid onto GH/GCE with cyclic voltammtry method. It can be used with composite properties of biochemical materials for highly selective and sensitive detection of dopamine (DA) even in the presence of mass ascorbic acid (AA). The linear response range for DA was 70 nM to 700 μM, and the detection limit was 20 nM (S/N = 3).

Abstract A procedure has been developed for determination of total arsenic and selenium in soils and plants by atomic absorption spectrometry with hydride generation associated with flow injection analysis (FIA-AAS-HG). Samples were wet-digested by using 2 systems: heating in a metal digestion block with controlled temperature and time and heating in a microwave oven. Total arsenic and selenium were reduced with NaBH4 and concentrated HCI, respectively. In both digestion systems used for the 2 matrix types, detection limits below 1 μg/L were found for both elements for an injection volume of 160 μL, with relative standard deviations of 3–6%. Recoveries by the method ranged from 93 to 105%; with the reference materials FD8 and MRG-1, the values obtained in all cases were consistent with the certified data. The FIA-AAS-HG procedure is highly suitable for determination of total arsenic and selenium in soils and plants, and because of the coupled system used, it is an improvement over other procedures in terms of sample treatment, sample consumption, and automation.
