The tetra dentate neutral (E)-4-nitro-2-((2-(2-(pyridin-2-yl) ethylthio) ethylimino) methyl) phenol, (pytaO2NSalH), Schiff-base ligand was synthesized using 1-(2-pyridyl)-3-thia-s-aminopentane (pyta) and 5-NO2salicylaldehyde. Then the related square planar Pt (II) cationic complex, [Pt (NSNO)] Cl, was synthesized using PtCl2(SMe2)2as precursor complex. The nature of the pytaO2NSalH and its platinum complex were determined by the elemental analysis, molar conductivity and spectrochemical (IR, UV–vis,1HNMR) techniques. In addition, the fully optimized geometries and vibration frequencies of them together were calculated using the ADF 2009.01 package. Structural parameters are in good agreement with the experimental data. The calculated and experimental results confirmed the suggested structures for the ligand and complex.

This search includes the preparation of Schiff base ligand (SB) from condensation primary amine with vanillin. The new ligand was diagnosed by spectroscopic methods as Mass, NMR, CHN and FTIR. Ligand complexes were mixed from new (SB) and Anthranillic acid (A) with five metal (II) chlorides. The preparation and diagnosis were conducted by FTIR, CHN, UV-visible, molar conductivity, atomic absorption and magnetic moment. The octahedral geometrical shape of the complexes was proposed. The ligands and their new complexes were screened with two different types of bacteria.

A novel complex has been prepared using the (E)-4-nitro-N-(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)aniline bidentate Schiff base ligand and PtCl2, namely, dichlorido[(E)-4-nitro-N-(pyridin-2-ylmethylidene)aniline-κ2 N,N′]platinum(II) acetonitrile hemisolvate, [PtCl2(C12H9N3O2)]·0.5CH3CN, 1. According to the X-ray measurements of the crystal structure, the PtII ion adopts a PtCl2N2 square-planar coordination. The coordination of the Schiff base ligand to the PtII ion occurs in a cyclic bidentate fashion, as a result of which a five-membered metallacycle is formed. Furthermore, in the structure of 1, the neutral molecules form a one-dimensional chain structure through C—H...Cl and C—H...O hydrogen bonds. The characterization of the complex was performed via single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis, and the antioxidant activity of the complex was evaluated using spectrophotometry by the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method.

Synthesis of zinc(II)/cadmium(II)/mercury(II) thiocyanate and azide complexes of a new bidentate Schiff-base ligand (L) with general formula of MLX2(M = Zn(II), Cd(II), and Hg(II)) in ethanol solution at room temperature is reported. The ligand and metal complexes were characterized by using ultraviolet-visible (UV-visible), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR),1H- and13C-NMR spectroscopy and physical characterization, CHN analysis, and molar conductivity.1H- and13C-NMR spectra have been studied in DMSO-d6. The reasonable shifts of FT-IR and NMR spectral signals of the complexes with respect to the free ligand confirm well coordination of Schiff-base ligand and anions in an inner sphere coordination space. The conductivity measurements as well as spectral data indicated that the complexes are nonelectrolyte. Theoretical optimization on the structure of ligand and its complexes was performed at the Becke’s three-parameter hybrid functional (B3) with the nonlocal correlation of Lee-Yang-Parr (LYP) level of theory with double-zeta valence (LANL2DZ) basis set using GAUSSIAN 03 suite of program, and then some theoretical structural parameters such as bond lengths, bond angles, and torsion angles were obtained. Finally, electrochemical behavior of ligand and its complexes was investigated. Cyclic voltammograms of metal complexes showed considerable changes with respect to free ligand.

The title compound, [Ni(C23H17N4O)(N3)], was obtained by the reaction of the Schiff base ligand 2-[(tri-2-pyridylmethyl)iminomethyl]phenol with sodium azide and nickel(II) perchlorate in methanol solution. The NiII atom is four-coordinated by the phenolate O, the imine N and a pyridine N atom of the Schiff base ligand, and by the terminal N atom of an azide ligand, forming a square-planar geometry. The other two pyridyl rings are oriented at an angle of 72.29 (11)° to each other.

Abstract A new series of Co(II), Fe(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes of Bis–(4-benzylidenamino-phenyl)-methane (L) have been prepared and characterized. The complexes conform to general formula [CoL(H2O)3] Cl2, [FeL(H2O)5]SO4.2H2O, [CuL(H2O)5] NO3 and [NiL(H2O)3Cl2], Infra red spectra and elemental analysis reveal uni-dentate coordination of Schiff base to metal ions. Molar conductivity measurements show that complexes (I, III) behave as 2:1 electrolyte while complex (II) behave as 1:1 electrolyte. The thermal studies for complexes shows that the complexes are thermal stable.
