The present work investigated interlayer couplings of [Co(20 Å)/Pt(30 Å)]5, [Co(4 Å)/Pt(7 Å)]30, and [Co(4 Å)/Pt(9 Å)]30multilayers with strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA). Brillouin light scattering measurements were utilized to obtain spin waves of these samples with in-plane external magnetic fields. Interlayer couplings were found to be very sensitive to Pt thickness change from 7 Å to 9 Å, which implies that Pt atoms were more difficult to be polarized to provide interlayer coupling between Co layers than in the perpendicular external magnetic field situation. When Pt layer is 30 Å, the observed single spin wave can confirm the disappearance of interlayer coupling even when Co layer thickness is 20 Å.

ABSTRACTRecent advances in molecular beam epitaxy have renewed research on the physics of artificially structured magnetic superlattices. In particular, there has been much theoretical research on the propagation of magnetic spin waves or magnetic polaritons in magnetic superlattices.1 In this work, we have studied the effect of modulating both the period of an antiferromagnetic/non-Magnetic semi-infinite superlattice and the relative thickness of its individual layers to see how the dispersion relationships co (k) for bulk and surface magnetic polaritons are effected. We have also calculated the effect of an external magnetic field on (u (k) and our calculation goes beyond the magnetostatic approximation by taking retardation effects into account.

A serial of [Pt/Co]4/MgO/[Co/Pt]2multilayers were prepared by magnetron sputtering in this study and Antiferromagnetic (AF) interlayer coupling was observed with increasing MgO spacer thickness. Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of soft layer in [Pt/Co]4/MgO/[Co/Pt]2multilayers were measured by Extraordinary Hall Effect (EHE). The direction of the magnetic field was parallel to the direction of the current. The results revealed that perpendicular magnetic anisotropy constant Kuoscillates with the thickness of MgO layer which is between 1.3 to 3.3 nm. The period of this oscillation is about 0.43 nm. This is very close to the monolayer (100) MgO. With increasing MgO spacer, the periodic variation of interface between [Pt/Co]nand MgO layer may be one of the reasons for this oscillation behavior of Ku.

AbstractBy means of light scattering from spin waves and magnetooptical Kerr measurements we investigated the exchange interaction of two Fe films across a Cr film as a function of the Cr thickness dCr.Using good quality epitaxial samples with a special wedge geometry of the interspacer we observed up to four full periods of the long range oscillations of the exchange, including its ferromagnetic parts. At room temperatures the damping of the oscillations does not follow the d-2Crpendence predicted by zero-temperature RKKY-type theory. After a special e-beam treatment of the samples a short-range oscillation with a period around a lattice constant of Cr are discovered. The value of coupling in the maximum in this case shows considerable temperature dependence. The analysis of domain patterns and M(H) curves reveals the existence of a noncollinear interaction, which causes a configuration where the magnetizations of two Fe films are perpendicular to each other.

Here we present the measurements of the temperature dependence of resistance, transverse and longitudinal magnetoresistance (MR) in nanocrystalline iron films in the temperature range 2-300 K and the sweep of the magnetic field up to 8 T. Thin nanocrystalline films of α- iron phase with 80 nm thickness were obtained by ion-beam assisted deposition on a silicon substrate. In addition to the shape anisotropy, the obtained iron films exhibited perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA), which disappeared after annealing the films at a temperature of 450 oC in a vacuum. The effect of PMA on the sign and magnitude of the MR of iron films, as well as on the magnetic field dependences of the magnetoresistive effect, recorded at different orientations of the external magnetic field with respect to the film plane and current direction, is experimentally shown. The results obtained are discussed in the framework of modern views on the processes of charge transfer in a weakly disordered ferromagnetic films with different magnetic anisotropy and domain structure when a weak (less than the saturation field of magnetization) or strong (higher than the saturation field) external magnetic field is applied.
