Benzodiazepines have a various behavioral effects in addition to their anxiolytic action. There is every reason to believe that the BZ/GABA receptor complex is involved in these effects, since GABAmimetic manipulations modify the effect of BZ in tests of convulsive activity, motor function, and appetitive behavior. 1,5-Benzodiazepines are biologically important molecules and are extensively used clinically as analgesic, hypnotic, sedative, and antidepressive agents. Hence, 1,5-Benzodiazepines were synthesized by condensation of o-phenylenediamine and ketones, for example, cyclohexanone and acetone in presence of sulfated zirconia (catalyst). Mannich bases were synthesized with acetophenone, p-nitroacetophenone, p-chloroacetophenone, and formaldehyde. Schiff bases were synthesized using Mannich base of 1,5-benzodiazepines with p-chloroaniline and p-chlorophenylsemicarbazide in the presence of glacial acetic acid. All the synthesized compounds were characterized by 1H NMR and IR spectral analyses. All the synthesized derivatives were evaluated at the dose of 30 mg/kg b.w for anticonvulsant activity by isoniazid induced convulsion model, and the compounds NBZD-3 and NBZD-8 were found to be the most active among all compounds. Among all the synthesized derivatives, compounds NBZD-13 and NBZD-17 were found to be the most active among all compounds using thiosemicarbazide induced model. Although NBZD-8, NBZD-10, and NBZD-18 are the compounds which had shown good anticonvulsant activity and have an advantage over that, they were not sedative.

A number of imines derivatives have been synthesized, they were obtained by condensation of aromatic aldehyde derivatives with primary aromatic amine derivatives. Their structures have been characterised by IR,1H NMR in addition to the elemental analysis. The biological activity of these imines (which are also known as Schiff bases) were examined against different type of microorganisms and they found to have considerable activity in comparison with the most commonly used antibiotics.

In the present study, 2-(4-halosubstituted phenyl)-4,5-diphenyl-1Himidazoles have been synthesized by refluxing benzil and ammonium acetate with different 4-halosubstituted aromatic aldehydes in glacial acetic acid. The structural assignment of this compound has been made on the basis of elemental analysis, UV, IR,1H NMR and Mass spectral data. Toxicity of the compound has been determined. The synthesized compound was evaluated for antiinflammatory activity against carrageenan induced paw oedema and anticonvulsant activity against maximal electro-shock-induced convulsions in rats.

The study considers the effect of fluorine doping of the alumina matrix used for the synthesis of supported sulfated zirconia catalysts. Hydrofluoric acid served as a fluorinating agent. The addition of fluorine was shown to affect the textural characteristics of the Al2O3 matrix and hence the surface area of sulfated zirconia catalysts based on the doped systems. It was found that the introduction of fluorine into the catalysts increases their activity (the conversion of hexane) and the yield of high-octane isomer 2,2-dimethylbutane.

Catalyst of Chromium (Cr) metal supported on sulfated zirconia (SZ) was prepared by wet impregnation method. This study aim to determine the optimal concentration of Cr metal that impregnated on SZ catalyst. Preparation of catalyst was conducted at different concentrations of Cr metal (0.5%, 1%, 1.5% (w/w)), impregnated on SZ catalyst, then followed by the calcinationand reduction process. Catalysts were charaterized by FTIR, XRD, XRF, SAA, TEM, and acidity test. The results showed the Cr/SZ 1% had the highest acidity value of 8.22 mmol/g which confirmed from FTIR spectra. All the crystal phase of these catalysts were in monoclinic. The specific surface area increased with the increasing of Cr metal concentration on SZ catalyst and the isotherm adsorption-desorption of N2 gas observed all the catalysts as mesoporous material. The impregnation process formed particles agglomeration.

The Schiff bases, L1, L2, and L3, are synthesized from the condensation of 5,7-dihydroxy-6-formyl-2-methylbenzopyran-4-one (L) with 2-aminopyridine (1), p-phenylenediamine (2), and o-phenylenediamine (3). The prepared Schiff bases react with lanthanum (III), neodymium (III), and erbium (III) nitrate to give complexes with stoichiometric ratio (1 : 1) (ligand : metal). The binuclear complexes of Er(III) with L3 and the three metal ions with L2 are separated. The complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, electronic absorption, and infrared, 1H-NMR spectral studies. The presence of hydrated and coordinated water molecules is inferred from thermogravimetric analysis. Thermal degradation studies show that the final product is the metal oxide. The luminescence properties of the Nd(III) and Er(III) complexes in dimethylformamide (DMF) solutions were investigated.
