Simple bone cysts are nonsymptomatic lesions. They typically involve the medullary cavity, but they can also be found in nonlong bones such as the calcaneum. Their treatment remains controversial varying from observation and conservative healing to irritating injections or bone grafting. In the case of a pathologic fracture, surgical treatment seems most appropriate especially when the cyst is situated on a weight-bearing bone. We present herein the rare case of a spontaneously healed pathological fracture over a critical-size calcaneal cyst of a patient reluctant to undergo surgical treatment. An interpretation of the healing procedure as well as a review of the literature is presented.

SummaryA 10-month-old Yorkshire Terrier was referred for evaluation of an intermittent right thoracic limb lameness that acutely progressed to non-weight-bearing. A diagnosis of bilateral bone cysts of the humeral condyles with a pathologic fracture of the lateral aspect of the right humeral condyle was given following radiographic and histopathologic examination. Bilateral pathology necessitated consideration of treatment modalities other than amputation of the limb, as previously reported. Arthrodesis of the right elbow using a 2.0 mm locking bone plate was performed. The dog did not experience any complications associated with the procedure or the contralateral bone cyst.

Aneurysmal bone cysts are benign but locally aggressive lytic lesions of bone. Surgical curettage and cancellous bone grafting resulted in complete clinical and partial radiographic resolution of an aneurysmal bone cyst of the distal tibia.

We present a rare case of neglected hip dislocation in a 3-year-old boy. Hip dislocations in childhood represent less than 6% of all injuries. The boy presented to the ED with ongoing hip pain after his leg got stuck in a carousel. The physical and radiologic examination revealed a posterior right hip dislocation. The closed reduction failed, so open reduction during surgery was performed. The postoperative protocol included 3 days of immobilization with early mobilization and pain-adapted weight bearing. No signs of femoral head malperfusion occurred 2 months after the injury. The patient did not complain of any limitations such as weight bearing problems or loss of range of motion. In comparison to adults, there are several specialties such as the fact that minor trauma can lead to hip dislocations due to the laxity of the ligaments, and due to the limited direct anamnestic options, neglected hip dislocations can occur. The treatment should focus on immediate proper reduction. The main complications after traumatic hip dislocation are avascular necrosis of the femoral head, redislocation, and early osteoarthritis.

Background: Erdheim-chester disease (ECD) is a rare non-Langerhans histiocytosis of unknown etiology, which typically presents with bilateral symmetric osteosclerosis and multi-organ involvement. Lesions may be intraosseous or extraosseous and involve the heart, pulmonary system, CNS, and skin in order of decreasing likelihood. Objective: The objective of this study is to discuss a case of erdheim-chester disease and conduct a review of the literature. Case: We describe a rare case of erdheim-chester in an asymptomatic 37-year-old male who was diagnosed after suffering a right ulnar injury. Subsequent evaluation revealed a solitary radiolucent ulnar lesion without multi-system involvement. Results & Conclusion: The case is unique in its solitary distribution, lytic radiographic appearance, and asymptomatic presentation preceding pathologic fracture. This presentation may simulate multiple other bone lesions.

The authors give the clinical case of successful surgical treatment of patient with tibia's pathologic fracture by intramedullary nailing with bone grafting. The disadvantages of such patients' treatment by plaster immobilization and by some invasive methods like vascular autografting by Ilizarov's method and bone plating were also discussed. The obvious benefits of proposed surgical treatment technique of observed patient category are shown.

We present a review of the literature and own case report of prenatal diagnosis of epignatus at 31 week of gestation. Ultrasound of the fetus revealed a massive formation of solid structure of the blubber of the mouth. The size of epignatus was 3,0  3,0  2,8 cm, intratumoral blood flow was not determined, the amount of amniotic fluid was normal. With the progression of pregnancy the tumor size has not increased. After the birth the neonate was an independent breath. Carried out surgical treatment with a positive effect. The diagnosis of epignatus confirmed by histological examination.

Abstract A rare case of a symptomatic venous anomaly of the parotid gland is described in a 14-year-old female patient who presented with Turkey Wattle sign. A definitive diagnosis of this disorder requires venographic studies. Surgical treatment was successful, with a follow-up of four years.

Abstract Visceral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are extremely rare with only a few cases described within the literature. To date, no cases of ischaemic colitis related to arteriovenous malformations affecting both superior and inferior mesenteric arteries have been reported. We report the first case of acute ischaemic colitis caused by venous congestion and reduced arterial flow due to combined AVMs in the territory of superior and inferior mesenteric arteries in a 51-year-old patient. After a multidisciplinary meeting, interventional radiology embolization was considered to be of unlikely benefit due to extensive varicosities; therefore, surgical treatment in the form of open subtotal colectomy and end ileostomy was performed. This case report demonstrates the severity and the complexity in the management of AVM-related ischaemic colitis, together with a review of the literature.

Neurofibromatosis is often related with severe orthopaedic disorders in children. Bone lesions are rare but pose severe difficulties in management. It affects the spine and long bones. Lesions are associated either from enlargement of neurofibromas that affect the normal growth or from primary neurofibromatosis of long bones. Dystrophic scoliosis appears with short curves, with kyphosis and rotation of the apical vertebrae. Usually affect the thoracic spine, with penciling of the ribs. Surgical treatment is challenging in cases of rapid progression. Scoliosis may appear with curvatures similar to those in idiopathic scoliosis, without dysplastic changes of the vertebrae. Anterior bowing of the tibia is manifestation of NF and is distinguished from the benign posterolateral bowing. Evaluation of the medullary canal and presence of cystic lesions in the tibia is essential. Progression to pseudoarthrosis or pathologic fracture is common. Surgical management of tibial pseudoarthrosis remains a difficult procedure. Pseudoarthrosis may appear in fibula, radius or ulna but are extremely rare. Irregular eccentric bone cysts in long bones that are commonly diagnosed after a pathologic fracture, must be differentiated for NF. Malignant transformation of neurofibromas must be considered when there is rapid progression of the lesion.
