A new Cd(II) complex with the ligand 4′-chloro-2,2′6′,2′′-terpyridine (Cltpy), [Cd(Cltpy)(I)2], has been synthesized and characterized by CHN elemental analysis,1H-NMR,13C-NMR, and IR spectroscopy and structurally analyzed by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. The single-crystal X-ray analyses show that the coordination number in complex is five with three terpyridine (Cltpy) N-donor atoms and two iodine atoms. The antibacterial activities of Cltpy and its Cd(II) complex are tested against different bacteria.

Four ocotillol-type (20R)-protopanaxadiol metabolites, (20R,24S)-20,24-epoxy-12β,25-dihydroxdammaran-3-one (M3), and (20R,24R)-20,24-epoxy-12β,25-dihydroxydammarane-3-one (M4), (20R,24S)-20,24-epoxy-3β,25-dihydroxydammaran-12-one (M9) and (20R,24R)-20,24-epoxy-3β,25-dihydroxydammaran-12-one (M10) are synthesised from (20R)-protopanaxadiol. Their structures are confirmed by HRMS, 1H NMR and 13C NMR. Moreover, the absolute configurations of M3 and M4 are confirmed by the X-ray single crystal diffraction.

Racemic trans-2-(9(H)-fluoren-9-yl)cyclohexanol, C13H9-cyclo-C6H10-OH (1), reacts with two equivalents of potassium naphthalenide in THF to give the dipotassium salt [C13H8-cyclo-C6H10-O]- K2(THF) (2). Recrystallization of 2 from pyridine affords the solvent free salt [C13H8-cyclo-C6H10- O]K2 (3). The reactions of LaI3(THF)4 with one equivalent of 2 or of YbI2(THF)2 with equimolar amounts of 2 produce the alkoxolanthanum diiodide (C13H9-cyclo-C6H10-O)LaI2(DME)2 (4) and the ytterbium dialkoxide (C13H9-cyclo-C6H10-O)2Yb(THF)0.5(5), respectively. [(Me3Si)2N]3Y reacts with three equivalents of 1 with elimination of hexamethyldisilazane and formation of the yttrium trialkoxide (C13H9-cyclo-C6H10-O)3Y (6). The compounds 2 to 5 were characterized by elemental analyses, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and IR spectra. The molecular structure of 4 was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction.

The title complex was isolated as a red solid from the reaction of 4-(salicylaldiminato)antipyrine, HL, and cobalt (II) acetate in ethanol. The complex has been characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, UV-Vis, and X-ray single crystal diffraction. Two crystallographically different cationic units, A and B, of the title complex are found. Both units are essentially isostructural; nevertheless, small differences exist between them. Both units contain four cobalt atoms arranged at the corners of distorted cubane-like core alternatively with phenoxy oxygen of the Schiff base. In both cases, one cobalt binds to three coordinated sites from the corresponding tridentate Schiff base ligand, and the fourth one was bonded by the acetate oxygen, and the fifth and the sixth donor sites come from the phenolate oxygen of another Schiff base ligand.

The reaction of the [K(18-crown-6)(thf)2]1+ (thf is tetrahydrofuran) salt of bis(anthracene)ferrate(−1), or [Fe(C14H10)2]−, with 2,6-dimethylphenyl isocyanide (CNXyl) in thf resulted in the formation of two new iron isocyanide complexes, namely, [(1,2,3,4-η)-anthracene]tris(2,6-dimethylphenyl isocyanide)iron, [Fe(C14H10)(C9H9N)3] or [Fe(1,2,3,4-η-C14H10)(CNXyl)3], and {5,6-bis(2,6-dimethylanilino)-3-(2,6-dimethylphenyl)-1,2,7-tris[(2,6-dimethylphenyl)imino]-3-azoniahept-3-ene-1,4,7-triido}tris(2,6-dimethylphenyl isocyanide)iron tetrahydrofuran disolvate, [Fe(C54H56N6)(C9H9N)3]·2C4H8O or [Fe(C54H56N6)(CNXyl)3]·2C4H8O, which were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The former is likely an intermediate along the path to the known homoleptic [Fe(CNXyl)5], while the latter contains a tridentate ligand that is formed from the `coupling' of six CNXyl ligands. A third crystal structure from this reaction, (7-methylindol-1-ido-κN)(1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane-κ6 O)potassium, [K(C9H8N)(C12H24O6)] or [K(C9H8N)(18-crown-6)], contains a 7-methylindol-1-ide anion, in which one CNXyl ligand has shed a proton during its reductive cyclization.

3-Chlorobenzo[b]thiophene-2-carbonyl chloride was synthesised from cinnamic acid and thionyl chloride. The single crystal X-ray structure determination confirmed the earlier proposed structure and the product was further characterised by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectrometry. The X-ray structure determination revealed two sets of symmetry related molecules along the b-axis that are loosely connected by relatively weak CH…π ( 3.626, 3.628 Å) interactions, giving rise to two infinite chains. The packing structure is dominated by Van der Waals forces between these chains. No significant π–π interactions are found in the crystal structure.

The crystal structure of the transition metal-rich orthophosphate mineral arrojadite was reexamined, and the disorder phenomena were analyzed applying modern X-ray single-crystal diffraction and refinement methods on samples from Nickel Plate (USA) and Hagendorf (Germany). As a new feature of the arrojadite structure, two different types of channels oriented along [010] are described. The occupancy of the atomic positions inside these channels have been elucidated.

The new ternary silicide Dy3Ni11.83(1)Si3.98(1)was synthesized from the elements by arc-melting and its crystal structure was determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. The compound crystallizes in a Sc3Ni11Ge4-type structure: Pearson symbolhP38, space groupP63/mmc(No. 194),a= 8.1990(7),c= 8.6840(7) Å,Z= 2;R= 0.0222, wR= 0.0284 for 365 reflections. The structure belongs to a large family of structures related to the EuMg5.2type, with representatives among ternary aluminides, silicides, germanides, etc.

Monophasic La6C2Br9 was prepared by heating a mixture of LaBr3, lanthanum metal and carbon in a molar ratio of 3 : 3 : 2 at 840 °C for 5 d. The crystal structure was investigated by X-ray single crystal diffraction (space group C2/c, a = 14.234(3), b = 10.858(2), c = 14.588(3) Å , β = 106.80(3) °). In the structure the La atoms form edge-sharing double tetrahedra. The La tetrahedra are centered by single carbon atoms. The yellow crystals of La6C2Br9 are transparent and electrically insulating.
