Reaction ofN1,N2-di-(4-methoxyphenyl)- orN1,N2-di-(4-hydroxyphenyl) -amidines (1a-d) with 3,4,5,6-tetrachloro-1,2-benzoquinone (2) in ethyl acetate at room temperature led to formation of new 3,4,5-trichloro-6-(2-hydroxy-6-methyldibenzo[d,f][1,3]diazepin-5-yl[1,2]-benzoquinones (3a-d) in addition toN-aryl-N'-(6,7,8,9-tetrachloro-4-hydroxydibenzo-[1,4]dioxin-2-yl)acetamidines (4a,b). The rational of formation of products3a-dand4a,bwas discussed and structures were confirmed on the basis of elemental analysis and spectral data.

The new N,N?-bis-(3-methoxy-saliciliden)-3,3?-dimetilbenzidine (H2L) Schiff base and complexes with Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) of type [M(HL)Cl(H2O)] (M=Co(II), Cu(II)) [M2L(H2O)4]X2 (M=Co(II), X=ClO4 and M=Cu(II), X=NO3) and [M2L(CH3COO)2] (M=Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II)) were synthesised. The ligand and complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, conductibility measurements, magnetic moments at room temperature, IR, NMR, UV-VIS-NIR, EPR spectra and thermogravimetric analysis. A molar ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 between ligand and metal was determined from the elemental analysis. Except for perchlorate complex that behave as electrolyte, the rest of complexes are non-electrolytes. The spectral data suggest a tetrahedral, pseudo-tetrahedral or square-planar stereochemistry respectively, data confirmed by magnetic behaviour of complexes. The antimicrobial tests indicate a fungicide effect both for ligand and complexes.

In the work we presented the behavior of 5-(4-(4-X-phenylsulfonyl)phenyl)-4-(n-propyl)-2H-1,2,4-triazole-3(4H)-thiones (X= Cl or Br) with some alkylation agents. Thus, new S-alkylated 1,2,4-triazole derivatives were synthesized by reaction of the corresponding 1,2,4-triazole-3-thione derivatives with different �-halogenated compounds (ethyl bromide, ethyl chloroacetate or phenacyl bromide), in basic medium. The structures of synthesized compounds were elucidated by spectral data (1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, mass spectrometry) and elemental analysis.

The title compound, i.e., [RuCl2(η6-p-cymene)(PPh2NHnPr)] (2), was obtained in a 71% yield by reacting a toluene solution of the chlorophosphine complex [RuCl2(η6-p-cymene)(PPh2Cl)] (1) with two equivalents of n-propylamine at room temperature. The aminophosphine complex 2 was characterized by elemental analysis, multinuclear NMR (31P{1H}, 1H and 13C{1H}) and IR spectroscopy. In addition, its catalytic behavior in the hydration of benzonitrile was briefly explored.

The europium (III) complex of coumarin-3-carboxylic acid (C3CA) has been prepared and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, and emission (photoluminescence and electrochemiluminescence) spectroscopy. The synthesised complex having a formula Eu was photophysically characterized in solution and in the solid state. Electrochemiluminescence, ECL, of the system containing the Eu(III)/C3CA complex was studied using an oxide-covered aluminium electrode. The goal of these studies was to show the possibility of the use of electrochemical excitation of the Eu(III) ion in aqueous solution for emission generation. The generated ECL emission was very weak, and therefore its measurements and spectral analysis were carried out with the use of cut-off filters method. The studies proved a predominate role of the ligand-to-metal energy transfer (LMET) in the generated ECL.

Some new metal(II) dichloride complexes with the ligands substituted nitrones of the general formula [ML2Cl2], where M= Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II), L=OCH=CHCH=C-CH=N(O)C6H4X (X=H,p-CH3,CH3O,CH3CO,F,Cl,and Br) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR,1H,13C NMR and Vis/Uv spectroscopy. The IR spectral data showed that the nitrone ligands coordinated with the metal ion through the most active atom of the N-oxide to give square planner coordinate (Cu,Ni,) complexes and (Zn,Cd,Co) tetrahedral complexes. No correlation was observed between the N-O vibrations stretching high frequency ν (N-O) of the complexes and the Hammet (σ) constants.

Substituted-6-methyl-1-thioxo-1,2-dihydro-3H-furo[3,2-g]pyrimido[1,6-a]quinazolin-3-ones (5a,b) were synthesized from condensation of visnagenone (2a) or khellinone (2b) with 6-amino-thiouracil (3) in dimethylformamide or refluxing of (4a) or (4b) in dimethylformamide. Hence, compounds (5a,b) were used as the starting materials for preparing many new heterocyclic compounds such as; furo[3,2-g]pyrimido[1,6-a]quinazoline (6a,b), furo[3,2-g]thiazolo[2′,3′:2,3]pyrimido[1,6-a]quinazolinone (7a,b), substituted-benzylidene-furo[3,2-g]thiazolo[2′,3′:2,3]pyrimido[1,6-a]quinazoline-3,5-dione (8a–f), 3-oxo-furo[3,2-g]pyrimido[1,6-a]quinazoline-pentane-2,4-dione (9a,b), 1-(pyrazole)-furo[3,2-g]pyrimido[1,6-a]quinazolinone (10a,b), 2-(oxo or thioxo)-pyrimidine-furo[3,2-g]pyrimido[1,6-a]quinazolinone (11a–d), 1-(methylthio)-furo[3,2-g]pyrimido[1,6-a]quinazolinone (12a,b), 1-(methyl-sulfonyl)-furo[3,2-g]pyrimido[1,6-a]quinazolinone (13a,b) and 6-methyl-1-((piperazine) or morpholino)-3H-furo[3,2-g]pyrimido[1,6-a]quinazolin-3-one (14a–d). The structures of the prepared compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectral data (IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, MS) and elemental analysis. Antimicrobial activity was evaluated for the synthesized compounds against Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. The new compounds, furothiazolo pyrimido quinazolines 8a–f and 11a–d displayed results excellent for growth inhibition of bacteria and fungi.

Synthesis of flavones and their derivatives has attracted considerable attention due to their significant pharmaceutical effects. 7-hydroxy-3',4'-dimethoxyflavone has been synthesized and its antioxidant activity has been investigated. Flavone was synthesized by oxidative cyclization of chalcone. 2',4'-dihydroxy-3,4-dimethoxychalcone was prepared by Claisen-Schmidt condensation of 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenones with 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehydes in the presence of aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide and ethanol at room temperature. Oxidative cyclization of 2',4'-dihydroxy-3,4-dimethoxychalcone was done by using I2 catalyst in DMSO to form 7-hydroxy-3',4'-dimethoxyflavone. The synthesized compounds were characterized by means of their UV-Vis, IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectral data. The compound was tested for their antioxidant activities by DPPH method.

Many complexes of 3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl phenyl methanone with Cr(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Cd(II) were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, UV/visible spectra, elemental analysis, room temperature magnetic susceptibility and molar conductivity. Cd(II) complex was expected to have tetrahedral structure while all the other complexes were expected to have an octahedral structure.

In this study, chalcones were synthesis by condensing 2-acetylpyridine with aromatic aldehyde derivatives in dilute ethanolic potassium hydroxide solution at room temperature according to Claisen-Schmidt condensation. After that, new heterocyclic derivatives such as Oxazine, Thiazine and Pyrazol were synthesis by reaction between chalcones with urea, thiourea and hydrazine hydrate respectively scheme 1. All these compounds wrer characterization by FTIR, 1H-NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis.

We report the first direct measurement of the broadening and shifting of the depolarized component of the Raman Q branch in D2. Spectral data were recorded from 1.5 to 12 amagat at 305.2 K. Both the measured broadening and shifting of the depolarized component are significantly different from that for the polarized Q branch. These results can be used as a check of theoretical calculations when they become available. Here they are used to correct previously reported values of the broadening of the polarized part of the Q-branch spectrum. Measured values of the ratio of the depolarized to polarized intensity for the Q-branch lines are also given.
