Thin titanium dioxide films were successfully prepared on titanium plates in ammonium sulfate solution with the micro-plasma oxidation method. The thin TiO2films were sensitized with acis-RuL2(SCN)2⋅2H2O (L =cis-2,2′-bipyridine-4,4′-dicarboxlic acid) ruthenium complex, and implemented into a dye sensitized solar cell configuration. The influence of current density on the surface structure and photoelectric performance of the TiO2films was investigated. The results show that the thin TiO2films are porous, and the dye-sensitized solar cell based on the film prepared at 14 A/dm2has exhibited higher overall light-to-electricity conversion efficiencies of 0.095% under the illumination at 40 mW/cm2.

Titania nanocrystals were prepared by hydrolysis of titanium alkoxide in ethanol solution. The preparation of titania / alumina thin film was performed on ITO coated glass substrate by dip coating method using ethanol of titania nanocrystal and boemite sol. The crystal structures, microstructure and thickness of titania / alumina thin film were examined by XRD and SEM. The adsorption of dye was influenced by the surface structure of thin film. The adsorption of dye on the films was improved by the immersion into acid as HNO3. Ruthenium polypyridyl complex and triarylmethylium salt were used as dye. Electrode using titania / alumina thin film for dye-sensitized solar cell was constructed.

Two unsymmetrical Zn (II) phthalocyanines 1 and 2 bearing an anchoring carboxylic function linked to the phthalocyanine ring through different rigid arylenevinylene bridges have been designed for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) applications. The phthalocyanines 1 and 2, when anchored onto nanocrystalline TiO 2 films, yielded 30% incident monochromatic photon-to-current conversion efficiency (IPCE) and 2% power conversion efficiencies under AM1.5 sun.

Pada tulisan ini, diuraikan karakteristik pasta TiO2 suhu rendah untuk aplikasi sel surya berbasis dye-sensitized yang dipreparasi dengan penambahan serbuk TiO2 reflektor. Penambahan TiO2 reflektor sebagai light scattering layer pada pasta dilakukan untuk melihat pengaruhnya terhadap karakteristik listrik sel surya yang dihasilkan. Preparasi pasta dilakukan menggunakan bahan komersial yaitu pasta T-Nanooxide D-L (Solaronix) dan serbuk pasta WER2-O (Dyesiol) sebagai bahan reflector. Bahan tersebut dianalisis struktur kristalnya. Hasil karakterisasi X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) menunjukan bahwa bahan TiO2 serbuk yang digunakan adalah nanokristal dengan struktur kristal anatase. Pasta ini dideposisi di atas permukaan plastik dan kaca konduktif (ITO-PET dan FTO) dengan metode doctor blade printing. Proses sintering lapisan TiO2 dilakukan pada suhu rendah yaitu 120 ˚C selama 4 jam. Morfologi permukaan lapisan TiO2 dianalisa menggunakan Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Lapisan TiO2 yang terbentuk diaplikasikan pada DSSC sebagai fotoelektroda. Pewarnaan dengan larutan N-719 (Ruthenium Complex), lapisan elektroda kerja platina dan larutan elektrolit iodine. Karakteristik kurva I-V dengan ukuran sel daerah aktif 1 cm2 diukur menggunakan Sun Simulator AM1,5 dengan sumber cahaya Xenon dan intensitas 50 mW/cm2. Hasil pengukuran menunjukkan penambahan serbuk TiO2 reflektor dapat meningkatkan unjuk kerja sel surya fleksibel yang dihasilkan. Efisiensi terbaik DSSC yang dihasilkan adalah 0,166% untuk substrat plastik dan 0,167% untuk substrat kaca.

Two new ruthenium(II) mixed ligand terpyridine complexes, “Ru(Htcterpy)(NCS)(L1) (N(C4H9)4), mLBD1” and Ru(Htcterpy)(NCS)(L2)(N(C4H9)4), mLBD2 were synthesized and fully characterized by UV-Vis, emission, cyclic voltammogram, and other spectroscopic means, and the structures of the compounds are confirmed by 1H-NMR, ESI-MASS, and FT-IR spectroscopes. The influence of the substitution of L1 and L2 on solar-to-electrical energy conversion efficiency (η) of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) was evaluated relative to reference black dye. The dyes showed molar extinction coefficients of 17600 M−1 cm−1 for mLBD1 and 21300 M−1 cm−1 for mLBD2 both at λ maximum of 512 nm, while black dye has shown 8660 M−1 cm−1 at λ maximum of 615 nm. The monochromatic incident photon-to-collected electron conversion efficiencies of 60.71% and 75.89% were obtained for mLBD1 and mLBD2 dyes, respectively. The energy conversion efficiencies of mLBD1 and mLBD2 dyes are 3.15% ( mA/cm2,  mV, ) and 3.36% ( mA/cm2,  mV, ), respectively, measured at the AM1.5G conditions, the reference black dye-sensitized solar cell, fabricated and evaluated under identical conditions exhibited η-value of 2.69% ( mA/cm2,  mV, ).
