Schiff base was obtained using furfuraldehyde and 2-amino pyridine to prepare new complexes of thorium(IV) and dioxouranium(VI) metals by various anions. The synthesized ligands and complexes were analytically studied through spectral data, elemental analysis and conductance measurements along with x-ray diffraction pattern. The complexes showed various coordination number and their toxic effects to bacterial and fungal genus was studied by two different methods of measurement.

A pair of tetranuclear chiral Cu(ii)-Schiff-base complexes were synthesized using enantiomerically pure (S)-H2L and (R)-H2L ligands. These were characterised using single-crystal X-ray diffraction and CD spectroscopy and their biological activity tested.

Twelve copper(II) Schiff base complexes derived from lipophilic amines have been prepared using either salicylaldehyde or ortho-vanillin via a microwave-assisted reaction. All complexes have been obtained elementally pure and an X-ray diffraction of an isopentyl derivative has confirmed the structure of these compounds. All complexes showed a promising degree of anti-mycobacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, where activity seemed to increase with an increase in the length of the aliphatic chain.

The reaction of polyoxovanadate and metal-Schiff base complex resulted in the formation of a new organic-inorganic hybrid compounds with the formula Na2[Mn (Salen)(H2O)2]4[V10O28]·9H2O (1) (salen=N,N’-ethylene-bis (salicylideneiminate). Compound 1 have been structurally characterized by IR, UV-vis spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data for 1: Triclinic, P-1, a=14.1123(3)Å, b=13.9397(7) Å, c=14.2564(5)Å, α=65.4160(9)°, β=81.3920(6)°, γ=89.5740(7) °. Structural analyses revealed that compound 1 represent a rare example of isopolyoxovanadate based metal-Schiff-base complexes, moreover, this is the first POM based metal Schiff-base complex isolated in aqueous solution medium, which may also propose a green chemical way to the synthesis of POM based hybrid. Compare with isopolyoxovanadate precusor Na6 [V10O28], compound 1 exhibit higher antimicrobial activities against human cancer cell, the phenomenon can be explained by the synergetic effect between POM and Schiff-base complex.

3-[3-Carboxyethyl-4,5-dimethylthiophene-2-yl)azo]pent-2,4-dione was synthesized by coupling diazotized 2-amino-3-carboxyethyl- 4,5-dimethylthiophene with acetylacetone. Based on various spectral studies and elemental analysis, an intramolecularly hydrogen bonded azoenol structural form was assigned for the ligand. This ligand is versatile in forming a series of lanthanide(III) complexes viz, lanthanum(III), cerium(III), praseodymium(III), neodymium(III), samarium(III) and gadolinium(III), which were characterized through various spectral studies, elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility measurements, molar conductance and thermal analysis. The spectral data revealed that the ligand acted as a neutral tridentate, coordinating to the metal ion through one of the azo nitrogen atoms, the ester carbonyl and the enolic oxygen of the acetylacetone moiety, without deprotonation. Molar conductance values adequately supported their non-electrolytic nature. The ligand and lanthanum(III) complexes were subjected to X-ray diffraction studies. In addition, the lanthanum(III) complex underwent a facile transesterification reaction on refluxing with methanol for a long period. The thermal behavior of the lanthanum(III) complex was also examined.

Two new manganese(III) Schiff base complexes,  [Mn(salen)(m-NO2-C6H4CO2)(H2O)] (1) and  [Mn(msalen) (p-OH-C6H4CO2)(H2O)] (2), where H2salen = N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-1,2-diaminoethane, H2msalen = N,N'-bis (3-methoxysalicylidene)-1,2-diaminoethane were synthesized from the manganese (II) carboxylates.  Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies show that the Jahn-Teller distorted octahedral complexes are stabilized by              H-bonded chains and networks in the solid state.

The title compound was synthesized by 2:1 condensation between adamantan-1-ylamine and benzene-1,4- dicarbaldehyde in n-BuOH and produced a good yield 87% of new bis Schiff base. The compound skeleton was affirmed by FTIR, 1H NMR, LC-MS, and X-ray powder diffraction. The structure was solved by a parallel tempering process and refined by using Rietveld refinement. Two adamantan-1-ylimino groups are connected in the anti-positions to the planar central 1,4-dimethylbenzene group. All rings of the adamantyl group possess normal chair conformation.
