Photocatalytic Activity ofTiO2-WO3Composites
TiO2-WO3photocatalysts were prepared in a vacuum evaporator by impregnation ofTiO2withWO2dissolved in anH2O2solution (30%) and followed by calcination at 400 and600∘C. XRD analyses showed that at400∘Cmonoclinic phase ofWO3was dominated whereas at600∘Cboth monoclinic and regular phases ofWO3were present. Modification ofTiO2byWO3caused increasing in the absorption of light to the visible range.TiO2and photocatalysts modified with low amount ofWO3(1–5 wt.%) showed high adsorption of Acid Red (AR) on their surface and enhanced photocatalytic activity under UV irradiation. Under visible light irradiation,TiO2-WO3photocatalysts prepared at400∘Cwere more active for AR decomposition than those prepared at600∘Csuggesting that monoclinic phase ofWO3is more active under visible light than regularWO3. AlthoughTiO2-WO3photocatalysts appeared to be active under visible light for decomposition of AR, the UV irradiation was more efficient.
