A new active-only sinusoidal oscillator is presented. The oscillator circuit uses two internally compensated operational amplifiers, two plus-type second-generation current conveyors and three operational transconductance amplifiers. The proposed circuit enjoys the attractive features of totally uncoupled frequency and condition of oscillation, low sensitivities, electronic tunability and integratability.

This study introduces a third order filter and a third order oscillator configuration. Both the circuits use two voltage difference transconductance amplifiers (VDTAs) and three grounded capacitors. By selecting the input and output terminals properly, current mode and transimpedance mode low-pass and band-pass filters can be obtained without component matching conditions. The natural frequency (ω0) can be tuned electronically. The oscillator circuit provides voltage and current outputs explicitly. The condition of oscillation (CO) and the frequency of oscillation (FO) can be adjusted orthogonally and electronically. The workability of the configurations is judged using TSMC CMOS 0.18 μm technology parameter as well as commercially available LM13700 integrated circuits (ICs). The simulation results show that: for ±0.9V power supply, the power consumption is 1.08 mW for both the configurations, while total harmonic distortions (THDs) are less than 2.06% and 2.17% for the filter and oscillator configurations, respectively.

A new configuration of voltage-mode quadrature sinusoidal oscillator is proposed. The proposed oscillator employs two voltage differencing current conveyors (VDCCs), two resistors, and two grounded capacitors. In this design, the use of multiple/dual output terminal active building block is not required. The tuning of frequency of oscillation (FO) can be done electronically by adjusting the bias current of active device without affecting condition of oscillation (CO). The electronic tuning can be done by controlling the bias current using a digital circuit. The amplitude of two sinusoidal outputs is equal when the frequency of oscillation is tuned. This makes the sinusoidal output voltages meet good total harmonic distortions (THD). Moreover, the proposed circuit can provide the sinusoidal output current with high impedance which is connected to external load or to another circuit without the use of buffer device. To confirm that the oscillator can generate the quadrature sinusoidal output signal, the experimental results using VDCC constructed from commercially available ICs are also included. The experimental results agree well with theoretical anticipation.

Two new active-only sinusoidal oscillator circuits are proposed. The first circuit uses one current feedback operational amplifier (CFOA) and four operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs). The second circuit uses only four OTAs. Without using any external passive elements, voltage (or current) control of the frequency and condition of oscillation, of the two circuits, can be achieved by adjusting the bias currents of the OTAs. The proposed circuits enjoy low sensitivities.

For designing GMI sensors, realization of current/voltage-mode (dual-mode) quadrature sinusoidal oscillator with the employment of current follower transconductance amplifier (CFTA) as the active component is presented. The proposed circuit configuration comprising two CFTAs, one grounded resistor and two grounded capacitors can simultaneously provide two explicit quadrature output currents and two quadrature output voltages. Moreover, the proposed circuit topology enjoys the advantage of independent control of the condition of oscillation and frequency of oscillation and good active and passive sensitivity performances. The functionality of the proposed quadrature oscillators has been verified by PSPICE simulations.

Novel CMOS current mode shapers for front-end electronics are proposed. In particular, six semi-Gaussian shaper implementations based on second generation current conveyors and operational transconductance amplifiers are designed using advanced filter design techniques. Although all shaper architectures are fully integrated, they satisfy a relatively large peaking time. The topologies are analytically compared in terms of noise performance, power consumption, total harmonic distortion (THD), and dynamic range (DR) in order to examine which is the most preferable in readout applications. Design technique selection criteria are proposed in relation to the shaper structures performance. Analysis is supported by simulations results using SPICE in a 0.6 μm process by Austria Mikro Systeme (AMS).

A new multi-function high-order current-driven filter is proposed. The filter uses only operational amplifiers, and operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs). Without using any external passive elements, a variety of high-order input-current/output-current and/or input-current/output-voltage responses can be realised without changing the circuit topology and without any matching or cancellation conditions. The parameters of the high-order filter responses can be electronically tuned by adjusting the bias currents of the OTAs.
