AbstractOne of the major routes to synthesize macroporous α-Al2O3 is the sol-gel process in presence of templates. Templates include polymers as well as carboxylic acids, such as citric acid. By careful choice of the template, pore diameters can be adjusted between 110 nm and several µm. We report the successful establishment of plain short-chain dicarboxylic acids (DCA) as porogenes in the sol-gel synthesis of macroporous α-Al2O3. By this extension of the recently developed synthesis route, a very precise control of pore diameters is achieved, in addition to enhanced macropore volumes in α-Al2O3. The formation mechanism thereof is closely related to the one postulated for citric acid, as thermal analyses show. However, since branching in the DCA-linked alumina nuclei is not possible, close monomodal pore width distributions are attained, which are accompanied by enhanced pore volumes. This is a significant improvement in terms of controlled enhanced porosity in the synthesis of macroporous α-Al2O3.

Abstract A solution based economically low cost, eco-friendly and energetically advantageous alternative route for the fabrication of ultrafine LiFe0.95Ti0.05PO4 and LiFePO4, polycrystalline material by semi-wet combustion and sol-gel synthesis is presented. The thermal analysis, crystal structure, morphology and composition of the materials were investigated using different physio-chemical characterizations. TG/DTA, X-ray diffraction, TEM, SEM, EDX, and XPS. The route required auto-combustion of an aqueous metal nitrate solutions in air with the aid of citric acid and is efficient for the fabrication of high quality, LiFe0.95Ti0.05PO4 and LiFePO4 at low temperature, in the combustion residue itself. On a micro-structural studies the grain size was seen in submicron-size that was acquired in a long-established sol-gel combustion and succeeding calcination method. Consequently, the present method reported can yield the ultrafine LiFePO4 and LiFe0.95Ti0.05PO4 at moderate temperature and is look forward to be applicable for other iso-structural polycrystalline materials.

AbstractA modified sol-gel synthesis route has been used to prepare the fine homogeneous powder of Sr2CuO3 ceramic using strontium nitrate, copper nitrate, diethylene glycol monobutyl ether and citric acid. XRD patterns showed that the temperature of forming Sr2CuO3 is about 900°C and single phase of Sr2CuO3 with high purity obtains at 950°C. Influence of concentration of citric acid on the structure of prepared materials was investigated by SEM images.
