The structural and electrochemical properties of lanthanum manganate (LaMnO3) powder prepared by the sol-gel method are researched in this article. The powder calcined at 600 °C showed amorphous, and the powder calcined at 700-800 °C showed the pure phase of the LaMnO3. The grains with the size of about 80-120 nm were agglomerating together. Cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge were used to characterize the electrochemical properties in alkaline environment. The electrochemical properties calcined at 700 °C showed a specific capacitance of 73 F/g at the current density of 0.5 A/g. The raw materials for preparing the LaMnO3 powder are cheap, and the operation method is simple.

The layered LiNi1/2Mn1/2O2 cathode materials were synthesized by a sol gel method. The effects of calcination temperature and time on the structural and electrochemical properties of the LiNi1/2Mn1/2O2 were investigated. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electrochemical analysis. The results revealed that the layered LiNi1/2Mn1/2O2 material could be optimal synthesized at temperature of 900°C for 10h. The sample prepared under the above conditions has the highest initial discharge capacity of 151 mAh/g and showed no dramatic capacity fading during 20 cycles between 2.5-4.5V at a current rate of 20mA/g.

The NiO thin film was deposited on the stainless steel substrate by spin-coating compared with thermal treatment technique. Thermal decomposition behavior of gel precursor, the structure, morphology and electrochemical properties of NiO thin film were characterized by thermogravimetric/differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and constant current charge-discharge techniques. The results show that the stable sol is synthesized by nickel acetate and PAA. The gel precursor completely decomposes and gradually forms the nanocrystalline NiO at 450°C during the sintering. The crystal structure of NiO films become more integrity and particles large with the increasing of sintering temperature. The morphology and structure of the NiO thin film sintered at 500°C for 2h is perfect and exhibits high discharge specific capacity and well cycle performance whose initial and stable discharge capacity after 20 cycles are 1147.5mAh/g and 741mAh/g , respectively.
