ABSTRACTThe interfacing of thin film vapor deposition technologies and solid state electrochemistry has led to the recent development of polarized electrochemical vapor deposition (PEVD). In this study, PEVD was applied to deposit a thin layer of yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) over a porous metallic electrode to form the cermet anode of a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). During PEVD, oxygen ions are transported through the solid electrolyte of an SOFC under an electrical potential gradient provided by an external dc source. At the metallic electrode (anode) surface, oxygen ions react electrochemically with ZrCl4and YCl3 in the vapor phase to deposit YSZ. The growth of YSZ resembles the mechanisms illustrated in Wagner's tarnishing theory. However, modification has been made to the initial growth of YSZ at both electronically and ionically shorted paths along the metallic electrode and solid electrolyte surfaces, respectively. The initial experimental results in the present study showed that PEVD is capable of depositing a thin layer of YSZ on a porous metallic electrode to form a cermet anode. This layer not only provides a continuous ionic conducting path in the anode to reduce the overpotential loss, but also protects the metallic electrode from further sintering, vapor loss and poisoning in the harsh SOFC operating conditions.

The publication is devoted to photostability assessment of four triazole antifungal drugs: fluconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole and voriconazole. The compounds were exposed in the solid state using the whole spectrum of UV-Vis radiation. The analyses were performed using high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) technique with densitometric detection. The results indicates considerable degradation of structurally similar itraconazole and posaconazole which could be clinically significant. After 72 hours of itraconazole irradiation there remain less than 25%, and 60% in case of posaconazole. To a lesser extent photodegradation concern two other compounds with a separate chemical structure: fluconazole and voriconazole. After 72 hours of irradiation there left 75% and 82% of these substances, respectively. The strict dependence between compound photostability and its chemical structure was observed.

Abstract In the present investigation, a new fungal inulinase producer Penicillium amphipolaria KAS 2555 has been isolated from the soil of dead mangroves litter area, followed by the inulinase production and optimization by solid-state fermentation using a low-cost substrate – hardy sugarcane (Saccharum arundinaceum). While screening, only Penicillium amphipolaria KAS 2555 showed the hydrolysis zone on the plate containing inulin media. The exoinulolytic nature of inulinase and its form of action was confirmed by thin-layer chromatography (TLC). After 96 h of the fermentation period, an activity of 2.45 U/gds was obtained. The I/S ratio of 0.59 proved that the enzyme is inulolytic in nature. Media optimization was performed to obtain a regression model using Central Composite Design (CCD). For optimization, five significant media components viz., inulin, (NH4)2SO4, K2HPO4, KH2PO4 and, NaCl were used. A 3.10-fold increase in activity of inulinase (7.59 U/gds) was obtained under the optimal settings of (g/gds) inulin- 0.1, (NH4)2SO4- 0.002, K2HPO4- 0.1, KH2PO4- 0.02 and NaCl- 0.02.
