The accuracy of photogrammetric reconstruction depends largely on the acquisition conditions and on the quality of input photographs. This paper proposes methods of improving raster images that increase photogrammetric reconstruction accuracy. These methods are based on modifying color image histograms. Special emphasis was placed on the selection of channels of the RGB and CIE L*a*b* color models for further improvement of the reconstruction process. A methodology was proposed for assessing the quality of reconstruction based on premade reference models using positional statistics. The analysis of the influence of image enhancement on reconstruction was carried out for various types of objects. The proposed methods can significantly improve the quality of reconstruction. The superiority of methods based on the luminance channel of the L*a*b* model was demonstrated. Our studies indicated high efficiency of the histogram equalization method (HE), although these results were not highly distinctive for all performed tests.

In the 21st century, the awareness of applying recent advanced intelligent technologies to promote a firm's brand image is the key to the success of expanding its business. Such implication demands efforts in strategic planning and massive investment from the top management team. However, most researches on branding strategies are narrowed to advertisement or classical marketing. Insufficient research on the backbone of making key successful branding strategies to effectively apply the intelligent technologies hinders the development of branding strategies. This chapter identifies three aspects: innovation in design technology, decision making on product quality, and collaborative communications to be the critical elements of the backbone. The methodology utilizes the power of the advanced computational technologies to generate innovative designs in a collaborative communication framework. Decision making on the quality of designs is monitored with EG-Kano reference models. Four case studies demonstrate that the backbone has potentials leading to ever-greater economic benefits.

This article presents a case study exploring the use of software product lines and reference models as mechanisms of a reuse-based design process to build digital libraries. As a key component in a modern digital library, the reference architecture is responsible for helping define quality of the resulting repository. It is true that many efforts have been addressed towards providing interoperability; however, repositories are expected to provide high levels of reuse too, which goes beyond that of simple object sharing. This work presents the main steps we followed towards building a reusable digital library capable of accommodating such needs by (i) providing mechanisms to reuse resources, and (ii) enabling explicit sharing of commonalities in a distributed environment.

Aiming at the independent geometric reference models of IGES surfaces for housing-type components, basing on the Pro/E, authors proposed the method of using the "exterior copy geometry" technology to extract references for surface reconstruction. The top down design ideas are adopted to break down original complex model into several components. After defining the modeling datum and father-son relationship, copy geometry is applied to reconstruct each component. Then all the part models are assembled by "exterior copy geometry" technology in the way of coordinate system superposition. And finally a 3D modeling of complex surface part is reconstructed. The No.10 coupler in CHR3 train is taken as a case study. Extracting geometry reference data from IGES model, without any parametric features, then these data are used to do parametric modeling in Pro/E in order to make them support variability design. Cooperating Pro/E with Imageware, quality of surface reconstructed is analyzed and evaluated. The above method provides an efficient solution for complex parts parameterization modeling and evaluation.

The article deals with the comparative analysis of the quality of adaptive thermal object control systems with reference models using the modified MIT rule and Lyapunov rule, implemented in MATLAB-Simulink software complexes (PCs). The proposed control algorithms were tested in laboratory condi-tions and provided the required quality of transition process in a thermal object.

During the past investigations of immunoferritin localization of intracellular antigens in ultrathin frozen sections, we found that the degree of negative staining required to delineate u1trastructural details was often too dense for the recognition of ferritin particles. The quality of positive staining of ultrathin frozen sections, on the other hand, has generally been far inferior to that attainable in conventional plastic embedded sections, particularly in the definition of membranes. As we discussed before, a main cause of this difficulty seemed to be the vulnerability of frozen sections to the damaging effects of air-water surface tension at the time of drying of the sections.Indeed, we found that the quality of positive staining is greatly improved when positively stained frozen sections are protected against the effects of surface tension by embedding them in thin layers of mechanically stable materials at the time of drying (unpublished).
