This study presents an interdisciplinary approach towards a critical analysis of some impacts of crude-oil exploration in Niger Delta and polemics of viable conϐlict resolution framework. This approach involves analysis of Ahmed Yerima’s creative portrayal in Hard Ground which revolves around the variables activating conϐlicting emotional interests in matters concerning ‘black gold’ in Nigeria, and how these variables resonant in debates and demands for Nigeria’s polity restructuring because of perceived resource mismanagement. More so, our scope includes an analytical attempt at illuminating elaborately our interpretation of the dimensions to the loud and shrewd inclinations subsuming what some see as solution to the lingering conϐlict, and the suppositions explaining why others see the debates and demands on polity restructuring as dark convoluted ploys aimed at hidden agenda. Hence, through select theories of victimhood, this study attempts to elucidate on the variables propelling conϐlicting emotional interestsabout oil exploration in Niger Delta, by looking interpretively hard and deep on the perspectives, views and suppositions deϐining the ideologies and inclinations propelling them. In the end, this study notes that the disenchantments and troubles with Nigeria’s polity framework and structure as it relates to oil exploration in Niger Delta are subsumed in Hard Ground’s creativecontribution as a means of assessing the points to the fault-lines that characterize the subsisting socio-political structure upon which Nigeria stands and wobbles.

Cepu Block located between Centre Jawa and East Java. It is known as a rich block because it has a source of oil and gas. Block Cepu, where geographically located between three districts, Blora (Centre Java), Bojonegoro and Tuban (East Java) has given a contribution to national budget (APBN) and respected local government budget (APBD). About 33 per cent of the land of Cepu Block is owned by Blora, 67 per cent owned by Bojonegoro and the rest is owned by Tuban. Ironically, however, although 33 per cent of the Block belongs to Blora, the district does not receive any financial income from the oil exploration. There is no resources share fund from Cepu Block. Moreover, the district has to deal with the negative impacts of exploration activities at the Block Cepu such as damaging of infrastructure, environmental pollution, and social disturbance. Blora District has protested to Centre Government, but so far there is no outcome. Centre Government asked that this problem should be studied first. The central government argue that if it is approved, then there will be domino impact: other districts will do the same like Blora. Blora district is struggling to get equality in resources share fund (dana bagi hasil). Efforts have done, seminars and workshops, lobby to DPD (Upper House) to find a solution. Now the district government is proposing judicial review to constitution court. This research examines the history of Block Cepu. It reveals the history of the block from the colonial era up to the reformation era. Further, the research aims to know how the tension between local government (Blora Government) and central government regarding Blok Cepu oil exploration. The research suggests that there is injustice in the distribution of revenue from the exploration and it is understandable if Blora district government struggle to get proportional revenue sharing.

The successful development of shale gas and oil in North America has created considerable interest in shale. The analysis of genetic types, the sedimentary environment, and the mudstone development mechanism within sequences is critical for evaluating shale gas and oil exploration prospects, exploration favorable zones, and resource potential. This study focused on the shale of Shahejie Formation in Dongying Depression of Bohai Bay Basin. Shale lithofacies division, geochemical analysis, and well-log analysis were performed for a sedimentary environment and its related elemental response characteristics’ identification. Based on the results, we concluded that the sedimentary environment of the lake basin evolved from the saltwater lake to the ambiguous lake and then the open lake to the delta. In response, we observed gradually decreasing Sr/Ba and Ca/Mg ratios and increasing Rb/Ca and Fe/Mn ratios during the whole process during the reduction of the salinity and the decrease in PH value and sediments’ transport distance. The relationship between ratio elements and high-frequency sequences was initially established within the shale strata. Our results show that ratios of Sr/Ba and Ca/Mg ratios near the sequence boundary are relatively low, and ratios of Fe/Mn and Rb/Ca are relatively high, while ratios of Sr/Ba and Ca/Mg near the flooding surface are relatively high, and ratios of Fe/Mn and Rb/Ca are relatively low. Those features can be used as a marker for high-frequency sequence division of shale strata. Our results provided a new theoretical basis and technical method for shale gas and oil exploration and development.
