The trans form of octahydro-1-methyl-1H-2,1-benzothiazine 2,2-dioxide, in which a six-membered sultam unit is trans-fused to cyclohexane, has been synthesized. The single-crystal X-ray structure shows the molecule to have the N-methyl group in the axial orientation. The generalized anomeric effect believed to be responsible for the axial preference is estimated at =>2 kcal mol-1.Key words: generalized anomeric effect, negative hyperconjugation, sulfonamides, sultams, X-ray crystallography.

The reaction of hexachlorocyclopentadiene with (NSCl)3 at 65 °C in the absence of a solvent produced hexachloro-3-cyclopentenylidenaminosulfenyl chloride, C5Cl6NSCl, in good yield. The derivatives C5Cl6NSX(X = Br, I, C5Cl6N, NPr2i, Ph) were prepared by treatment of C5Cl6NSCl with Me3SiBr, Me3SiI, Ph3Sb, iPr2NH, and Ph2Hg, respectively. The crystal structure of C5Cl6NSBr was determined by X-ray crystallography. Crystals of C5Cl6NSBr are triclinic, space group [Formula: see text] with a = 9.626(2), b = 9.810(2), c = 13.736(2) Å, α = 79.68(1), β = 88.62(1), γ = 74.73(1)°, Z = 4, final R and Rw values were0.075 and 0.063, respectively, for 4850 unique observed reflections. The > C=NSBr moiety adopts a syn conformation and there are two different molecules of C5Cl6NSBr in the asymmetric units. The bond lengths are d(C=N) = 1.278(8) and 1.253(8), d(N—S) = 1.560(6) and 1.569(6), and d(S—Br) = 2.229(2) and2.235(2) Å. The bond angles at nitrogen are 146.7(4) and 148.6(4) and those at sulfur are 116.8(2) and 116.5(2)°. The unusual geometry of the < C=NSBr moiety is explained in terms of negative hyperconjugation (nN → σSBr*). A variable temperature 13C NMR of C5Cl6NSCl provides evidence for a fiuxional process (ΔG*298 = 68.1 ± 1.2 kJ mol−1) in solution. The dark purple compound C5Cl6NS+AsF6− was synthesized from the reaction of C5Cl6NSCl and AgAsF6 in SO2. Key words: hexachloro-3-cyclopentenylidenamino sulfides, crystal structure, hexachloro-3-cyclopentenylidenaminosulfenyl bromide.

Reaction of the Grubbs catalyst RuCl2(PCy3)2(CHPh) (1) with lithium 2-[(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imino]pyrrolide·Et2O (LiNN′·Et2O) gives alkylidene complex 5, containing a chelating, σ-bound iminopyrrolato unit. The structure of 5 is confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Treatment of 5 with pyridine generates RuCl(NN′)(py)2(CHPh) (6) via displacement of PCy3. Complex 5 effects ring-closing metathesis in air, displaying high reactivity relative to 6.Key words: ruthenium, alkylidene, metathesis, pyrrolimine, iminopyrrolato.

Abstract The structure of the title compound has been determined by X-ray crystallography. The title compound is synthesized from the elements at 600 °C. Its crystal structure, derived from powder data [3] is refined by single crystal diffractometer data. The structure is trigonal (P3̅ml, α = 684.1(1), c = 724.4(1) pm); Pd2+ cations and PS43- anions form a network with an anti-Claudetite (AS2O3) type structure. The PS4 units are distinctly distorted from ideal tetrahedral symmetry. The Pd atoms have a planar environment of 4 S atoms.

Flash vacuum pyrolysis of 1-(alkyn-2′-oyl)-3-methylpyrazoles at 650°/0.03 mm forms pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyridin-5-ols, often in high yield, which may bear substituents at C2, C3 or C7. In the absence of a 3-methyl group in the precursor, N-ethynylpyrazoles are formed in low yield. The formation of both types of product is interpreted as involving 3-(N-pyrazolyl)propadienones formed by N1 → N2 migration of the N-alkynoyl group with inversion of the three-carbon chain. The fused-ring structure of 2-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyridin-5-ol (25) was established by X-ray crystallography of the O-benzoyl derivative (27).

As part of our interest into the bioinorganic chemistry of gallium, gallium(III) complexes of the azole ligands 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (btd), 1,2,3-benzotriazole (btaH), and 1-methyl-4,5-diphenylimidazole (L) have been isolated. Reaction of btaH or btd withGaBr3orGaCl3resulted in the mononuclear complexes[GaBr3(btaH)2](1) and[GaCl3(btd)2](2), respectively, while treatment ofGaCl3with L resulted in the anionic complex(LH)2[GaCl4](3). All three complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography and IR spectroscopy, while their antiproliferative activities were investigated against a series of human and mouse cancer cell lines.

The reduction of magnesium phthalocyanine (MgPc) with 2.2 equivalents of potassium graphite in 1,2-dimethoxyethane (DME) gives [K2(DME)4]PcMg(OH)(1) in 67% yield. Compound 1 was structurally characterized using single crystal X-ray crystallography and was found to be a monomeric, heterometallic complex consisting of a μ3-OH ligand that bridges a [MgIIPc3-]- anion to two potassium cations solvated by four DME molecules. An absorption spectrum of 1 confirms the Pc ligand is singly reduced and has a 3–charge. The solid-state structure of 1 does not indicate breaking of the aromaticity of the Pc ligand. Compound 1 is only the second Pc3- complex and the first reduced MgPc to be isolated and structurally characterized.

Reaction of McConville's chelating amido titanium complex [(Ar)NCH2CH2CH2N(Ar)]Ti(CH3)2 (Ar = 2,6-i-Pr2C6H3) with either elemental Se or the tellurium atom source Te=PBu3 resulted in the formation of bis-µ-chalcogenido dimers [(Ar)NCH2CH2CH2N(Ar)]2Ti(µ-E)2 (E = Se, 2; Te, 3) with concommitant loss of EMe2. The dimers 2 and 3 were characterized spectroscopically and via X-ray crystallography. The two compounds are isostructural in the solid state. The tellurido dimer 3 may also be synthesized by reduction of the diamido dichloride [(Ar)NCH2CH2CH2N(Ar)]2TiCl2 with Na–Hg amalgam followed by treatment with Te=PBu3. This dimer is unreactive toward further Te=PBu3 or stannanes such as HSnBu3. Unlike decamethyltitanocene derivatives, the diamido complex is not an effective catalyst precursor for the heterohydrodecoupling of Te=PBu3 and HSnBu3.Key words: diamido titanium complexes, selenides, tellurides.

A novel Bi (III) coordination compound, [Bi(HQ)(Cl)4]n ((Q = pyridine-4-carbaldehyde thiosemicarbazone), was prepared in this research using a sonochemical technique. SEM, infrared spectroscopy (IR), XRD, and single-crystal X-ray analysis were utilized to analyze the Bi(III) coordination compound. The structure determined using single-crystal X-ray crystallography indicates that the coordination compound is a 1D polymer in solid state and that the coordination number of bismuth (III) ions is six, (BiSCl5), with one S donor from the organic ligand and five Cl donors from anions. It is equipped with a hemidirectional coordination sphere. It is interesting that the ligand has been protonated in the course of the reaction with a Cl- ion balancing the charge. This compound’s supramolecular properties are directed and regulated by weak directional intermolecular interactions. Through π–π stacking interactions, the chains interact with one another, forming a 3D framework. Thermolysis of the compound at 170 °C with oleic acid resulted in the formation of pure phase nanosized Bi (III) oxide. SEM technique was used to examine the morphology and size of the bismuth (III) oxide product produced.

The compound 2-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)thiazolo[4,5-b]pyridine (1) was synthesized with a yield of 71% by the reaction of 1-(thiazolo[4,5-b]pyridine-2-yl)hydrazine and acetylacetone. The structure was characterized by a single-crystal X-ray structure determination as well as 1H and 13C{1H} NMR spectroscopy. X-ray crystallography on 1 confirms the molecule consists of a pyridine–thiazole moiety and the pyrazole ring, and all non-hydrogen atoms are planar.
