N,N-Dimethyl formamide (DMF) and N,N-diphenyl formamide (DPF) complexes of six lanthanide perchlorates of the composition M(DMF)8(ClO4)3 and M(DPF)6(ClO4)3 where M = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, or Y have been prepared and characterized. The infrared spectra show that the amide is bonded to the metal through oxygen. Conductivity, molecular weight, and spectral studies indicate coordination numbers of eight and six for DMF and DPF complexes respectively, with the perchlorate groups remaining ionic.

Co-ordination complexes between diesters of α,ω-dicarboxylic acids and titanium tetrachloride, tin tetrachloride, and zirconium tetrachloride have been prepared. The analytical results, the infrared spectra, the melting points, and the molecular-weight determinations indicate that for the titanium and zirconium complexes, two types of complexes are obtained, one having a general formula MX4•1 diester in which chelate rings from five to nine atoms are formed and the other one, 2MX4•1 diester in which there are two 4-membered rings per complex molecule. With tin tetrachloride only one type of complex is formed, which has two tin tetrachlorides and two diesters per complex molecule.

Some antifertility inhibitors of 18 to 24-membered tetraazamacrocyclic complexes of iron(II) and manganese(II) have been synthesised by the template condensation using 1,3-phenylenediamine with malonic acid, succinic acid, glutaric acid and adipic acid. The reaction proceed smoothly to completion. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations, infrared, electronic, magnetic moment, mössbaur and mass spectral studies. The elemental analyses are consistent with the formation of the complexes [M(N4Ln)Cl2] (M = Fe(lI) or Mn(II)). All these complexes are stable and monomeric in nature as indicated by the molecular weight determinations. The spectral studies confirm the octahedral geometry around the central metal atom. The complexes have been screened in vitro against a number of fungi and bacteria to assess their growth inhibiting potential. The testicular sperm density and testicular sperm morphology, sperm motility, density of cauda epididymal spermatozoa and fertility in mating trials and biochemical parameters of reproductive organs have been examined and discussed.

Optical absorption and emission spectral studies of various phthalocyanine ( Pc ) molecules in dimethyl formamide (DMF) solvent are reported in this paper. Measurements have been done for free base, Eu , Fe , Mn , Sm , Cu , Zn , Nd and La Pc - s . The principal optical transitions viz B and Q are identified and some of the important spectral parameters such as molar extinction coefficient (ε), absorption cross section (σa), dipole strength (q) and oscillator strength (f) are evaluated for the prominent Q-band. The measured radiative parameters viz emission cross section (σe), fluorescence bandwidth (Δλ) and optical gain (G) show wide variation among different systems. The results obtained are compared with other solid matrices such as glass and polymer.

In the modern medicines the novel and active molecules are essential to act against various diseases and increase the needs day by day due to population increase. In view of that, we attempt to make a variety of synthetic molecules against inflammation by a new and popular greener microwave assisted and faster method such as Microwave Enhanced Chemistry assisted Vilsmeier Haack Synthesis (MEC-VHS). In this paper, we report the synthesis of nitro- dinitro- and acetyl- derivatives of 3- formyl, 7-flavonols using MEC-VHS techniques against inflammation as anti-inflammatory agent. These derivatives were synthesized via pinkish formylation complex of dimethyl formamide and phosphorous oxychloride by microwave irradiation resulted as suspension by base. The re-crystallized products were characterized through Co-TLC, λmax, IR, HPTLC, 1HNMR, CHN analysis and mass spectral studies. The HPTLC finger print profiles obtained were of with a prominent single peak and with a matching Rf values compared to that obtained by an ordinary Co-TLC technique. All the synthesized compounds were screened for their anti-inflammatory activity by in vitro protein denaturation method and in vivo carrageenan induced paw oedema method and it was found that all the compounds excepting the un-substituted 3-formyl, 7-flavonols gave an equi- or more potent activity as compared to that of the standard.

Schiff bases were obtained usingp-trimethoxy benzaldehyde,p-hydroxyl benzaldehyde and 2-amino pyridine to prepare new complexes of thorium(IV) and dioxouranium(VI) metals by various anions. The synthesized ligands and complexes were analytically studied through spectral studies, elemental analysis conductance measurements along with semi empirical and thermogravimetric methods. The complexes were assigned various coordination numbers ranging from 6-10 on the basis of these studies.

Reaction of VO(OPri)3 with two equivalents of N-phenyldiethanolamine (PhDEAH2) yields a homometallic complex [VO(PhDEA)(PhDEAH)] 1, which reacts with a number of metal alkoxides to afford heterobimetallic oxovanadium(V) complexes of the types [VO(PhDEA)2{M(OR)n-1}] [where PhDEA = C6H5N(CH2CH2O–)2], [M =: Al (n = 3, R = Pri) 2; Al (n = 3, R = But) 3; Ti (n = 4, R = Pri) 4; Zr (n = 4, R = Pri) 5; Nb (n = 5, R = Pri) 6; Ta (n = 5, R = Pri) 7. The derivative [VO(PhDEA)(OSiPh3)] 8 has been prepared by the equimolar interaction of [VO(PhDEA)(OPri)] with Ph3SiOH. All of these complexes have been characterised by spectroscopic (IR; 1H, 13C, 27Al and 51V NMR) studies, elemental analyses, and molecular weight measurements. The derivative 2 has also been characterised by FAB mass spectral studies, which supports for its monomeric nature.

Triphenylbismuth(V) acid derivatives of the type, Ph3BiX2, where X = halide, nitrate, cyanate, acetate, haloacetate, or cyanoacetate have been prepared. Infrared spectra (4000 to 200 cm−1 region), electrical conductances, and molecular weights of these compounds have been studied to elucidate their structural features and chemical constitution. The molecular weight and conductance data show that these compounds behave as molecular species in benzene or nitromethane. The infrared spectroscopic results also indicate non-ionic five-coordinate structures. Bi—X stretching frequencies have been assigned for the difluoride, dichloride, dinitrate, dicyanate, and diacetate. These frequencies occur in the region 410–240 cm−1.

A determination of the infrared spectra of the solid hydrochlorides of methylformamide and dimethylformamide and of the Raman spectra of their aqueous solutions showed that certain spectral features change with the medium used. The infrared spectra of the two amides in concentrated and in aqueous sulphuric acid, and in concentrated hydrochloric acid (HCl and DCl), are consistent with the existence of two amide/acid reaction products for each amide: one (certainly ionic) form predominates in sulphuric acid solutions; a second form, of unknown structure, is present in the solid hydrochlorides, and in hydrochloric acid the two forms coexist in equilibrium.

N,N'-Dimethylol thiourea-formaldehyde (DMTUF) resin having the methylol group (CH2OH) has been prepared and characterized. The condensation of DMTUF resin with Phenol (P) was carried out in the presence of alcoholic alkali catalyst at varying ratios of DMTUF: P, namely 1:1, 1:1.5 and 1:2. The resultant DMTUFP resin was characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectral studies, number average molecular weight (M¯n) estimated by non-aqueous conductometric titration, and thermo gravimetry. The curing study of DMTUFP resin with hexamethylene tetramine (HMTA) was monitored by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and kinetic parameters were evaluated. Glass-reinforced composites based on the DMTUFP-HMTA system have also been prepared and characterized.

Complexes of the type (MX2)2(DPPA)2 (M = Pd, Pt; X = Cl, Br, I, SCN; DPPA = bis(diphenylphosphino)acetylene) have been prepared and characterized. Raman, infrared, and molecular weight data have been used to show that the structures are binuclear with bridging bis(diphenylphosphino)acetylene groups. The infrared spectra of the compounds [M(SCN)2]2(DPPA)2 are suggestive of the presence of both N and S bonded thiocyanate within the same molecule.
