A convenient synthesis of cis,cis-1,6-cyclodecadiene (3) has been described starting from cis,cis-1,5-cyclononadiene (1). This two-step sequence involves the synthesis of 1,2,6-cyclodecatriene (2) in one-step followed by chemical reduction with sodium and liquid ammonia.

Titanium nitride nanopowders were synthesized through a chemical reduction of titanium tetrachloride by sodium in liquid ammonia. The products of the reaction were the mixture of sodium chloride and titanium nitride nanopowders. The mixture was then separated by ammonia extraction. The nanopowders were heated under vacuum up to 1200 °C and were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET) surface area measurement, and chemical analysis. The results show that the product is nanocrystalline cubic phase TiN with Ti/N atomic ratio performed 1:1, and the surface area is from 20 to 50 m2 ·g−1 depending on the heating temperature. The particle sizes estimated by the TEM analysis correspond well with the results of the surface area measurements. The XRD pattern indicates that the crystal size grows with an increase in heating temperature.

A one step chemical reduction process was used for the preparation of hydrophilic silver nanoparticles ( AgNP ) using silver nitrate, sodiumborohydride and polyvinylpyrolidone as stabilizer. In the case of hydrophobic silver nanoparticles reduced silver ions were stabilized with cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The resultant nano particles were characterized by absoption spectra and their interactions with cationic cobalt (QCoPz) and neutral magnesium (MgPz) porphyrazines in water and in organic medium were investigated by using UV-vis spectroscopy and zeta potential techniques. It is confirmed that both metalloporphyrazine molecules interact with silver nanoparticles in an effective manner. The possible arrangement of the porphyrazines on the surfaces of the hydrophilic and hydrophobic AgNPs has been also discussed according to obtained spectroscopic results. These well-characterized novel AgNP -metalloporphyrazine composites are expected to be useful in optical and catalytic applications.

The bismuth nanoparticles are synthesized via a solvothermal reduction method based on the chemical reduction of Bi3+ by ethylene glycol acting as the solvent and the reducing agent. The structural and morphological properties of the bismuth nanoparticles are investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. The results demonstrate that the synthesized powders has a rhombohedral crystalline structure and their diameters are in the range of 75-103 nm under the condition of the different initial bismuth nitrate concentrations with the reduction temperature of 200°C, indicating that the thermal reduction temperature and the initial bismuth nitrate concentrations are key factors for phase composition as well as crystal size.

Using a linear assembly approach a highly differentially protected derivative of the common GPI-anchor core structure (α-D-Man-(1[Formula: see text]6)-α-D-Man-(1[Formula: see text]2)-α-D-Man-(1[Formula: see text]4)-α-D-GlcNH2-(1[Formula: see text]6)-D-myo-inositol) has been synthesized. All mannose donors were prepared from a common thioglycoside precursor (1), and coupled to GlcN3-myo-inositol acceptor 5 in a linear five-step glycosylation–deprotection sequence in 49% overall yield, to give the key intermediate 10, with orthogonal temporary protecting groups at the 6'', 2'', 6', and 2 positions of the trimannoside motif and at the 1 and 2 positions of the inositol part. Consecutive removal of the temporary protecting groups in the trimannoside moiety followed by phosphorylation, gave a tetraphosphosphate derivative in 60% overall yield. Removal of a camphor acetal afforded a 1,2-inositol diol, which was converted to a 1,2-cyclic phosphate using commercial methyl dichlorophosphate ([Formula: see text]17, 95%). One-step deprotection using sodium in liquid ammonia afforded the target polyphosphorylated core structure 18 (60%), which will be tested for metabolic insulin action.Key words: glycophosphatidylinositols, linear synthesis, glycosylations, inositolphosphoglycans, IPG.
