The absolute fission yield of Ba140 in the thermal neutron fission of U235 has been determined to be (6.32 ± 0.24)%. The reaction B10(n, α)Li7 was used as a neutron monitor and the B10/B11 ratio determined mass spectrometrically before and after neutron bombardment. The Ba140 disintegration rate was determined using 4π counting techniques. The half-life of La140 has been found to be 40.31 ± 0.06 hr.

The fission yield of I131 has been investigated using improved extraction techniques and disintegration rate measurements. The value obtained for the fission yield is (3.1 ± 0.1)%. This is relative to a Ba140 reference fission yield of 6.1%. The half-life for I131 has been determined and found to be 8.05 ± 0.01 days.

The yield of Cs138 in thermal neutron fission of U235 has been investigated using the 4π counting technique. The value obtained for the fission yield is (7.22 ± 0.29)% based on a value of 6.32% for the fission yield of Ba140. The half-life of Cs138 was determined and found to be 32.2 ± 0.1 min.

The independent yield of Cs14m in thermal neutron fission of U235 is less than 1.7 × 10−6 of the mass 134 chain yield and that of Cs136 was found to be (0.94 ± 0.04) × 10−3 of the mass 136 chain yield. The half-life for Cs134m was measured as 2.91 ± 0.01 hours.

The relative cumulative yields of 19 light mass fragments of rubidium, strontium, yttrium, zirconium, molybdenum, and ruthenium formed in the thermal neutron fission of Pu239 have been determined with a mass spectrometer using the isotope dilution technique. The yields of the fission product isotopes of these elements, together with the previously published relative yields of three krypton isotopes, have made possible the determination of the absolute yields of 22 light fragment mass chains.

The relative yields of the isotopes of cesium, cerium, neodymium, and samarium produced by the thermal neutron fission of Pu239 have been determined with a mass spectrometer. Preliminary values of the absolute yields of 16 isotopes of these elements together with four yields of the xenon isotopes have been assigned by means of isotope dilution techniques.
