The catalytic activity of highly thermal stable, hydrophobic, and complete heterogeneous propylsulfonic acid functionalized nanostructured SBA-15 for excellent acetylation of alcohols and phenols with acetic anhydride at ambient temperature in solvent-free conditions was examined under environmentally benign reaction conditions. The salient features of this protocol are the absence of solvent, a green experimental procedure, and simple reusability of the catalyst (at least five reaction cycles).

Abstract1,1-Diacetates derivatives were prepared using the direct condensation of aldehydes with acetic anhydride in the presence of silica-supported boron sulfonic acid (SiO2/B(SO4H)3) as a tri-functional inorganic Brønsted acid catalyst under solvent-free conditions at ambient temperature. The salient features of this methodology are: (i) cheaper process ready availability of the catalyst; (ii) versatility; (iii) high regio-selectivity of the procedure and recyclable property of the catalyst.

Cyanuric chloride is an inexpensive, efficient, and mild catalyst for the Michael addition of indoles to nitroolefins at 70°C under solvent-free conditions. The simple experimental procedure, solvent-free reaction conditions, utilization of an inexpensive and readily available catalyst, short period of conversion, and excellent yields are the advantages of the present method.

A highly efficient, green and expeditious solvent-free method is described for the chemoselective conversion of aldehydes to the corresponding acylals in excellent yields, using acetic anhydride in the presence of catalytic amount (20 mol%) of silica-supported LiHSO4. Ketones does not react under these reaction conditions. LiHSO4/SiO2can be recovered and reused without any significant loss of its catalytic activity.
