The algebraic screw pair, or A-pair, represents a new class of kinematic constraint that exploits the self-motions inherent to a specific configuration of Griffis-Duffy platform. Using the A-pair as a joint in a hybrid parallel-serial kinematic chain results in a sinusoidal coupling of rotation and translation between adjacent links. The resulting linkage is termed an A-chain. This paper reveals the dynamic equations of motion of a single A-pair and examines the impact of the inertial properties of the legs of the A-pair on the dynamics. A numerical example illustrates the impact of the leg effects from different perspectives and shows that while the gravity effects of the legs are significant, it may be possible to neglect the leg kinetic energy from the dynamics model.

This article presents a method to solve the impact of a kinematic chain in terms of a non-linear contact force. The nonlinear contact force has different expressions for elastic compression, elasto-plastic compression, and elastic restitution. Lagrange equations of motion are used to obtain the non-linear equations of motion with friction for the collision period. The kinetic energy during the impact is compared with the pre-impact kinetic energy. During the impact of a double pendulum the kinetic energy of the non-impacting link is increasing and the total kinetic energy of the impacting link is decreasing.

The purpose of this paper is to present a comprehensive multibody system dynamics model of a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS), and implement its simulation and experimental studies. The new version of transfer matrix method of multibody system and the launch dynamics theory are used in deriving the equations of motion coupled with rockets and barrels. The obtained model accounts for the complete process of the rockets’ ignition, movement in the barrels, airborne flight and landing. Launch dynamics of an 18-tube 122mm MLRS is investigated in this paper. Considering the effects of random factors, such as the impact and clearance between the rockets and barrels, the mass eccentricity and dynamic unbalance of the rockets and the thrust misalignment in this model, and combining the Monte Carlo method, the simulation of the dynamics of MLRS is carried out. Finally, the experimental implementation is proposed and the experimental results emphasize the feasibility of the multibody system launch dynamics model as a viable alternative for modeling accurately the dynamics characteristics of a practical MLRS. Meanwhile, the correctness of the numerical results is validated.

This motion affects both the direct and inverse kinematics of such chains. Presented in this paper are the direct kinematics of chains using A-pairs and an algorithm for the inverse kinematics of a 4A-pair chain.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to identify levels of self-compassion in adults who do and do not stutter and to determine whether self-compassion predicts the impact of stuttering on quality of life in adults who stutter. Method Participants included 140 adults who do and do not stutter matched for age and gender. All participants completed the Self-Compassion Scale. Adults who stutter also completed the Overall Assessment of the Speaker's Experience of Stuttering. Data were analyzed for self-compassion differences between and within adults who do and do not stutter and to predict self-compassion on quality of life in adults who stutter. Results Adults who do and do not stutter exhibited no significant differences in total self-compassion, regardless of participant gender. A simple linear regression of the total self-compassion score and total Overall Assessment of the Speaker's Experience of Stuttering score showed a significant, negative linear relationship of self-compassion predicting the impact of stuttering on quality of life. Conclusions Data suggest that higher levels of self-kindness, mindfulness, and social connectedness (i.e., self-compassion) are related to reduced negative reactions to stuttering, an increased participation in daily communication situations, and an improved overall quality of life. Future research should replicate current findings and identify moderators of the self-compassion–quality of life relationship.

Persuasion overtly foregrounds the self as embodied: physical accidents and sickness are recurrent. Sir Walter Eliot’s belief in the time-defying bodily grace of nobility is subject to Austen’s harshest irony. The transition from vertically ordered place to horizontal space in Persuasion is more extreme than in any other of the completed novels. Anne Elliot’s movement from social exclusiveness to socially inclusive possibility allows Austen to challenge gender and class hierarchies traditionally held to be inborn. Her writerly experimentation expands the possibilities of narrative perspective to encompass the porous boundaries of the physical, the emotional and the rational that constitute any moment of consciousness. Her focalisation techniques in the text look directly towards Woolf’s stylist innovations. A chain of references to guns and shooting gathers into the novel contentious contemporary discursive networks on class relations, notions of masculinity and the nature of creaturely life.

Parental Modernity is an important aspect for the psycho-social development of the child. The present study aims to study the effect of parental modernity on rejection sensitivity and self-esteem of adolescents and the relationship between rejection sensitivity and self-esteem. The research is carried out on a sample of 240 parents (including 120 fathers and 120 mothers) and their 120 children. For observing the impact of modernity of parents on their children, Individual Modernity Scale was used and administered on father and mother. Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire and Self-Esteem Inventory were used to measure the rejection sensitivity and self-esteem of children (age ranges from 14 to 19 years). The results suggest that parental modernity has an effect on the rejection sensitivity and personally perceived self of the self – esteem of adolescents. Furthermore, the rejection sensitivity has been found negatively associated with self-esteem.

After John Cage’s 1958 Darmstadt lectures, many European composers developed an interest in absurdity and artistic provocation. Although Ligeti’s fascination with Cage and his association with the Fluxus group was brief, the impact it had on his composition was palpable and lasting. A set of conceptual works, The Future of Music, Trois Bagatelles, and Poème symphonique for one hundred metronomes, fall clearly into the Fluxus model, even as the last has taken on a second life as a serious work. This spirit, however, can also be seen in the self-satire of Fragment and the drama and irony of Volumina, Aventures, and Nouvelles Aventures. The sketches for Aventures not only show the composer channeling this humor into a major work but also prove to be a fascinating repository of ideas that Ligeti would reuse in the years to come.

Health supply chains aim to improve access to healthcare, and this can be attained only when health commodities appropriate to the health needs of the global population are developed, manufactured, and made available when and where needed. The weak links in the health supply chains are hindering the access of essential healthcare resulting in inefficient use of scarce resources and loss of lives. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and demand forecasting is one of the weakest links of health supply chains. Also, many of the existing bottlenecks in supply chains and health systems impede the accurate forecasting of demand, and without the ability to forecast demand with certainty, the stakeholders cannot plan and make commitments for the future. Forecasts are an important feeder for budgeting and logistics planning. Under this backdrop, the study examines how improved forecasting can lead to better short-term and long-term access to health commodities and outlines market-related risks. It explores further how incentives are misaligned creating an uneven distribution of risks, leading to the inability to match demand and supply. For this purpose, a systematic literature review was performed, analyzing 71 articles from a descriptive and content approach. Findings indicate the emerging trends in global health and the consequences of inaccurate demand forecasting for health supply chains. The content analysis identifies key factors that can pose a varying degree of risks for the health supply chain stakeholders. The study highlights how the key factors emerge as enablers and blockers, depending on the impact on the overall health supply chains. The study also provides recommendations for actions for reducing these risks. Consequently, limitations of this work are presented, and opportunities are identified for future lines of research. Finally, the conclusion confirms that by adopting a combination of approaches, stakeholders can ensure better information sharing, identify avenues of diversifying risks, and understand the implications.
